Trails in and around Bowral?

I'm heading down to Bowral for a wedding this weekend and going to take the bike along. Other than Wingello and Penrose are there any other trails that are closer to Bowral? I want to get a sneaky couple of hours in but preferably not have to drive to them, so the missus can have the car.

Thanks.

I was going to take him on Bairne track tomorrow, considering it is supposed to the easiest. In light of recent commentary of its conditions, can anyone reccomend an alternative.

Needs to fire trail, flat and easy and about 7 k

Bairn Track

I was on Bairn Track yesterday and there was track work in progress. The trail was a mess with track tread marks all over the trail, crushed bed rock strewn every where, torn tree roots and damage everywhere. The sand and mud was disturbed and water running across the trail seemed to be cutting new paths.

What is the point of all of this? I rode the trail a few weeks ago and it was fine and in very good condition. Am I missing something?

A couple of new illegal trails have been cut in off Hassans Walls over the school holidays have caught the ire of the NIMBYs

If you have been cutting the trail down into Strathlone or the one off Bracies lookout (not to mention fucking up the existing town house trail that comes down on High St, serious you've ruined the rock drops and made an errosion mess on the by pass) can you please ease up and especially stop cutting down trees and making a mess.

Turn anything into a speaker? How about your helmet?

Now I'm not one for having earphones in when riding - I like to have all my senses available when riding, but... I saw this and thought it might make a nice alternative to add some background music to your ride by sticking it to your helmet. Could be something in it?

Crank Creaks

Guys recently swapped out the chainrings on my 2006 Specialized XC Comp.
All fine except now the whole BB/crank assembly creaks like a bastard.
Never did it before I pulled the cranks off.
Any ideas what I've done/not done...?
What's the correct way to tighten the crank onto the splined BB shaft without special tools.
Cheers

altitude

just noticed a few trails with nice tracking and length but no altitude

thinking I need things to do, is there places you'd like to see the up/down so I can get off my fat/lazy butt and get out, maybe only walking, but still, I got a GPS or 4 that can track these things.
you want updates ? ask ...

Mitchells Pass Closure

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi all, well Mitchells Pass is now closed to all, they have put wire fences up each end while stabilization repairs are carried out to the cliff line. I believe the road will be re opened at the end of the month to vehicular traffic.

Lake Parramatta Reserve - Meeting to discuss action against possible closure by Parramatta Council

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

We are having a meeting at Dooleys Silverwater at 7pm on Wednesday 19
October to discuss the proposed Lake Parramatta trails closure and Draft Plan
of Management.

Dooleys Silverwater is at the corner of Clyde St and Silverwater Rd near the
Silverwater Bridge.

Slight change from the original suggestion at Lidcombe but the room was
better and it hasn't cost us anything (plus it may also be closer for some
Parramatta local riders, too).

It will be a chance for all those voices and names to finally meet and collect
our thoughts together in a common group against this.

Wednesday night rides from the Tip

Is anyone keen to resurrect the Wednesday night Kiwarrak rides from the Tip?

If so what is the preference for start time? I'm happy to ride at 6pm rather than 5pm if it means more people can get there, no lights the first hour or so and then just lights for a bit from 7pm.

Endurance Horse Ride in Kiwarrak SF on Sunday, October 30, 6am to 9am

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

We have been contacted by some endurance horse riders that on Sunday, October 30 between 6am and 9am a group of about 40 riders will be riding on the firetrails in Kiwarrak State Forest.

So if you are heading out there be aware or better yet ride later in the day. At least they had the decency to advise of the ride well in advance and hopefully we can develop a spirit of co-operation between the two user groups.

Anyone needing further information can contact Terry McMurrich on 6550 6337.

Hill training

I know there's some people on here that like to do hill repeats so I'm after best practice.

If I'm mountain biking and going up a hill then I'm going to spinning my legs like hell in a nice easy gear.

Now on the road bike lets say up Bobbin head (south side) I can either burn my legs in the big ring or aim for a higher cadence in a lower gear, which is better? What are the benefits of one over the other?
Thoughts please?
