Jamis Dakar XAM to relpace SX Trail

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Has anyone had any experience with these frames? I can't seem to find much information about them, which leads me to believe they are probably not that good.

This is the frame in questions : http://www.jamisbikes.com/usa/thebikes/fullsuspe...

I'm thinking of replacing my 2006 SX Trail frame with a 2009 Dakar XAM frame which looks to be a little more all mountain capable than the SX Trail which is more freeride/park oriented. The Dakar frame and shock is almost 2Kg lighter than the SXT frame, but loses 20mm in travel (150mm vs 170mm).

Workstand

Hi guys,

Getting old and taller… I can't bend anymore like I use to.
Thought about buying a workstand.

I got the choice of a $169 on Torpedo7: http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/T7WKWNN60/ti...
or a ~$50-70 on eBay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/150664989285?ssPageNa...

Do you think the stand on eBay is a piece of sh*t, that will be good to use only 2-3 times?

Hey, heading up Coffs way on the weekend and tossing up the idea of taking the bike. No doubt there are trails up there, anyone have links to maps or the like

Moto Trail Vandalism

I saw this on another board and thought it should be posted here to raise awareness.

Pardon my french, but check out these dickheads.

Two morons on motos plus their mate in a Nissan Patrol tearing up MTB trails in Nowra, which are maintained by dedicated local MTB'ers.

Singletrack vandalism starts around the 9 minute mark.

They also manage to kill a snake, knock down a few trees and hassle some roos. Absolute bloody bogans.

Rides near Bendalong

I'm taking a week's break at Bendalong (south-coast, half way between Ulladulla & Jervis Bay). I'll be taking the Jones & doing as much riding as I can sneak in. Anybody know about any good rides down in that area? The town backs onto Conjola State Forest.

Mt Royal NP training ride

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Did this ride yesterday with a couple of mates, planning on doing a weekender up there setting up camp at the camp grounds and doing a bit more exploring. Trail is mainly dirt forestry roads with some fire trail/double track thrrown in. Heaps of good views down to lake St Clair and west towards Rouchel. Some very big hills to get the legs working, especially if you start at the bottom where we finished. photo is from a ride I did up there 2 years ago, the dam is full now and the grass is very green.

Chain sound

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

For starters I am using rock and roll gold lube. After lubing I usually get about 10k through a ride with no noise then after that I begin to get that sort of unoiled sound. Following instructions on label and tried adding more and less but still get the same problem. Suggestions.

Howdy I rode the singleiton track for the first time on Saturday. It was a lot of fun but I picked the wrong time of the day to do it (afternoon when it was hot). Anyway thanks to the rider who pointed out there were trees down across the track as I turned up. Not sure if it should be updated in the trail status but there were quite a few trees down. One set was 2.8km in to the ride according to my garmin. The other set were within a kilometer of the turn off where is says 4km to home one way 3km to home the other way along the 4km route.

XO / X9, what mechanical difference is there?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Ok,
I am thinking of changing from X9 to XO shifters, i know there is a weight difference, i couldn't care less about that, what i want to know is, what mechanical difference is there between the two?..if they are mechanically the same or different, and what performance gain is there over the X9?

Red Belly Black Snake @ Manly Dam today

Saw a Red Belly Black @ about 2:30 today just after crossing the creek. Sitting in the middle of the track and not at all fussed as I rode past.

So if you see a shiny stick...... it's probably not a stick!

Speak of the devil, just after putting the snake safety post we came across our first snakes of the season. Not on the bike, we'd ventured down to one of our favorite swimming holes for a picnic. Been visiting this spot of more than 25 years and took the camera to do a bit of lizard spotting as there are lots of Cunningham Skinks and Water Dragons but I've never seen as snake here before.

Skewers - Hex versus RWS

Having to replace a skewer, seems there are some alternatives to std QR for a more solid ride.

Anyone tried a Hex/Allen skewer or a DTSwiss RWS ... aside from the Hex convenience issue ... ? Is there any noticeable improvement in stiffness (for xc / all mountain riding) ??

Bike for Anaconda this Year

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hey All,

I'm doing the Anaconda this year for the first time. I'm doing the bike leg as part of a group.

Have done some road racing & time trialing, this is my first crossover to MTB.

Looking for suggestions for decent entry level bikes, for this race and for the odd adventure race afterwards.

cheers!

Fox RP23 Required (Where to buy one)

OK, getting ready for Red Hill and my rear shock has lost all its air Sad

This is the second time this has happened (fixed under warranty once before) so I'm ditching the monarch and going to get an RP23

Can anyone recommend where I can get one new at a decent price that will have a valid warranty in OZ.

Also, if anyone has one lying around I'd be interested. Its 200mm eye-to-eye and 50mm stroke.

Cowan Trail (Terry Hills) Confirmed As Out of Bounds

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I decided today to get confirmation from NPWS if it was legal to ride the Cowan Fire trail which forks off West about 850m from the Long/Perimeter junction. Whilst this site indicates it is okay to ride the trail, I have noticed there are no signs confirming you can ride at the trail head. This is the response I received back which confirms the trail is out of bounds for MTBkrs.

I have heard from other name less riders that there are some good trails behind the Belrose tip? I have looked around and asked but with no luck. Im a serious rider and part of the MTB community in this area, I realise we dont want kooks all over our trails so i might not get any help with this but if you know any info about these trails can you give me directions please.
Bike love.
