What tyres better in the wet?

Anticipating bottlebutt being wet, what would you run front and rear out of 2.0 race kings and 2.2 x-kings?
Or would you run a combination of both? 2.2 X-king up front and 2.0 race king out back.

These are the only tyres I have to choose from.

Generally, is a fatter or skinnier tyre better in the wet?

Time for a new bike!! Suggestions on 29ers?

Morning gents

Yep, have made up my mind to get a new bike, doesn't help there is a 'GIANT' store with some shiny toys just up the road.

Was in yesterday trying to decide when some 29'ers caught my eye. I'm into mostly XC and technical riding, not so much downhill.

Be interested to hear any and all opinions on moving from standard size to 29'ers.

Trails inside OpenStreetMap

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've discovered that some trails like Yellowmundee or Appin have been implemented in the free/wiki equivalent of Google Maps: OpenStreetMap, see here Appin XC route (in red).

The good thing with OpenStreetMap, is that there isn't a giant corporation behind to restrict the use of it. For example, I have an App on my iPhone that can save the cache and therefor able me to check the route while having NO reception at all.

Rydal trail work

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Myself, Lincon and Stevie raked a bit more trail on the weekend

At the end of the last DH opposite the car park theres a nice flow section with some open drifty corners,

It needs a few wheels over it to bed it in. Bottom bit is a bit grassy so if any one is heading out through the week it could do with a bit of whipper snippering.

We ran out of time so the bottom corner is a bit sharp. i plan on widening it and berming it up so you can hold speed as you climb back out on the road. Enjoy

Best weight dropping options

Arvo all.
Please excuse my choice of subject and appolgise if its been covered a million times before. You have the choice to ignore it if it annoys you ")

After riding the south loop with Tony and Jimmy yesterday, (cheers fellas) and feeling the weight, or lack of in the bikes. I am looking at some options to drop the weight of my Anthem X2. I know and fully understand that their bikes are a callibre well above mine and cant expect to get close to their weights, but I would like to hear from people who have had some success from dropping weight from a dually.

Anyone want to skive off work and ride on Thursday?

I've got a rare as hen's teeth/rocking horse $hit day off on Thursday! The wife will be at work and my daughter at daycare which gives me a FREE day or other words A GOLDEN TICKET TO RIDE! so I want to make the absolute most of it whilst I can.

Is anyone else not working that day or can skive-off and want to join me?

I'm thinking about heading up the GNR but won't go there alone midweek. Totally open to other ride options too but would be good to put in a decent 100km of fun riding ie, not training pace (unless you want to)

Any takers? I'll post it up if there's interest.

Ourimbah social next Sunday 3-9-11

After doing a couple of laps yesterday and loving it, I plan on going up again next Sunday morning.

I prefer to get up there early and if there's any locals who want to show us round and how to tackle some of the A lines, that would be great.
Maybe do a steady paced lap first and then do a second, faster paced lap if anyone wants to?

If I get a bit of interest, I'll put up a calendar entry.

Seeking people to ride with

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place to post my query.

I just moved to Newcastle from Sydney and am keen to mingle my way into a group to go riding with - I just missed out on today's Jesmond ride (should check more often!). I am an intermediate XC/single track rider who is looking to get fit again.

There doesn't seem to be alot of social rides posted....

Cheers!

Bantry Bay details?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Are there any further detail around regarding the Bantry Bay trails that will be opened in Garigal National Park?

Did the trails that were closed used to have maps on Nobmob? If so any chance of publishing them again... even if they're not exact... just to give an idea of they trail distance, topography of the land, etc etc.

I'm a Bantry Bay local but got back into MTB after the original trails were closed so have no idea where they are / what they're like.

If no possibility of details how about an ETA? Any idea when information will be published by NPWS?

Advice on Rotorua NZ

So I am heading to the World Cup in NZ and naturally want to take in some of these beautiful Rotorua trails I have been hearing about. My question is do I hire a bike over there (my preference as I'm travelling around the country a bit) or do I take my own bike over. I ride a Giant Trance. Does anyone know where you can hire and the expense etc?

Problems bleeding promax brakes

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi,

I've bled avid juicy 3 brakes before with no problem, but now trying to with my front Promax Hornet brake and not having much success.

The process I've been following:
1. Prepare syringes (one with 3/4 filled dot4 and the other 1/4 filled) and try to remove as much air as possible (de-gas).
2. Attach 3/4 filled syringe to calliper.
3. Attach 1/4 filled syringe to lever.
4. Bleed cable, from calliper to lever.
5. Close lever handle and bleed calliper to remove as much air as possible (by applying pressure then suction alternately to get bubbles out).
