29er MTB Shops in Sydney

Hey Guys, I'm heading down to Sydney to buy a 29er XC in two weeks and need some direction on which shops to visit. Definitely need to test ride everything that's available in the 5 - 6 grand range.

What's your favourite 29er?

Thanks Muz

chain lube

Hi Guys, been out of the sport for 5-6 years and have recently got a new dualy and since so much has changed in that time i was wondering what everyone uses for chain lube. Pedro's used to be my choice, found it quite good but not sure if they still have products available. Cheers

Red Hill

I'm probably a bit better than an intermediate rider, do you reckon this trail would be possible for me. I can do manly dam well but the page says its pretty technical. Also are there any jumps? could you recommend a place with many jumps and singletrack?
Thanks

Wanted to borrow: air from compressor

Hi All

I'm trying to put a UST Crossmark on my UST rims and I just can't get it to seal. In the past this has always been hassle free but with this one it's being a pain, soapy water etc all not working. Does anyone in the Manly region have a compressor that I could get a hit of air from at some stage (my arms are shagged from trying this with a track pump)? I can get anywhere in the region at any time that suits you

thanks in advance

Mountain biking Oxford falls

So, I've looked at the trails which are at oxford falls and it seems most of them seem to be illegal. I've been looking for some singletrack and i was wondering if there was any out at Oxford Falls. Also for the downhill trail, I ride a hard-tail but love to do small trails is it possible to get down without destroying my bike. I've seen some videos and it seems the first past has jumps which look ok for a hardtail. Would i have to turn back afterwards? or is there a way around all the drops.
Thanks

Rear tyre replacement

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Being relatively new to mountain biking, this is the first tyre I've had to replace but I don't really know where to start. There seems to be heeps of styles, widths, tread design etc.

I have a few questions that hopefully someone can answer to help me make sense of it all. If they're stupid questions then I apologise in advance but if you don't ask, you don't find out!

The type of trails I like to ride most are Manly Dam, Appin, Mount Annan and occasionally the odd fire trail. The bike it's on is a Felt hardtail.

This is what's on the bike atm:

Found at Glenrock

I found this water bottle yesterday at the power pole on shaft, near the junction of the rocky descent and the dirt jumps.
I left it there, just in case Ben came back.

Make the Census count

Regular commuter or not, consider riding to work on Tuesday in order to be able to answer question 45 on the census with a vote for cycling. Every vote counts for better cycling facilities.

IMBA - Sweet Single Track

IMBA is not a standard and we need to stop calling it that. I too have made this mistake

IMBA is a guideline with 22 years of experiance.

Do You Know a School Teacher who Mountain Bikes?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

As most of you will have seen, Warringah Council has just wound up a four week on-line survey on mountain biking in Warringah. We hear the response rate has been pleasing.

Our trail advocacy group Trail Care is communicating with Council on this, and has a small job we'd like some help with from a school teacher.

Ideally, we'd like a Phys Ed teacher to be involved, but any teacher who is prepared to encourage mountain biking within schools and is within reach of Warringah would be suitable.

Cadel may compete in mountain bike event at 2012 Olympics

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

CADEL Evans may turn back the clock and compete in the mountain bike class at the 2012 London Olympics.

Evans, 34, is bidding to become just the third cyclist after Jan Ulrich and Miguel Indurain to win the treble – Tour de France, world road title and Olympic gold.

And the mountain bike race may offer Evans his best chance of Olympic success rather than the time trial (fifth) and road race (15th) that he rode at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Presta Valve?

Just bought a new inner tube today (Maxxis 26x2.20/2.50).
It has a Presta valve (see photo) and i have no idea how to inflate it :/ (Don't say use a pump)
Rookie question i know, but i guess that's what this site is made for.
Any advice would be helpful as i would like to ride asap, ie tomorrow haha.

Terrey Hills gun club

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Whilst riding the Mona Vale Road sniggle on the weekend I come across a sign on the side of the track highlighting the proposed addition of a rifle range to the existing gun club on Mona Vale Road, Terrey Hills.
It was also featured in the Manly Daily today.

Go to the Warringah Council website for further details of this proposal: http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/ePlanning/Pages/...
or search for DA2011/0305

Do you want to be riding in front of, beside or behind a rifle range?
What will the noise do to the native wildlife in the area?

Knapsack XC this saturday (6.8.11)

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hey all,
Looking at checking out the XC trails at knapsack this saturday morning at 8am with the old man.
Haven't been there before and wondering if any of the locals are gonna be out there that may be able to show me around?
If not, where abouts is the trailhead located? Easy enough to find my way around without ending up a missing person?

Cheers,

Ev

GT Sensor 2.0, or 3.0… or 2.0 / no 3.0; but 2.0 oooor 3.0? — help!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi guys,

On the process to find a new bike for the week-end rides, I felt in love with the GT Sensor bike.
I've looked a bit in depth the specs, and can't make up my mind if I should to buy a Sensor 3.0 or the Sensor 2.0.
