Menai - again
Not sure if this has already been covered but I just found this article and was wondering if it had anything to do with the recent closure....

Fastest Manly Dam's time
I am wondering if Manly Dam MTB trail ever saw a race.. and if the best time/rider are known..
No.. I am not into racing - it's just that having seen few fast riders - albeit mostly at the concluding smooth stage of the trail - I am very curious to find out how (poorly) my PB compares..
Farewell Manly Vale, hello Inner West - where to ride and commute?
Hey Guys
Well the sad day came yesterday when I moved from my lovely unit (only a stones throw away from The Dam) to the flat concrete jungle of the Inner West (Leichhardt). I can't be the only one on these forums so looking for any ideas on where I can get off-road and also a good longish (20km) commute loops to the city with some hills thrown in (my commute to Stanmore took all of 5 mins this morning).
Alternatively, if anyone has a trainer they want to get rid of let me know.
Thanks in advance

Disgusting
Awaba V Singleton
Just a quick question as I am returning form injury and trying to work out if I can do the 3hour race at singleton the week after the racing this weekend at awaba (banzai series for me 20-25km roughly).
Advanced bike maintenance..
Hi guys,
Need to cut my hydraulic hoses and set the derailleur hanger straight (again). Both activities that require special tools if you want to do it properly.
Not keen on buying a hose cutter, because that's not likely to ever get used again. (about 80 on CRC)
Bleed kit and derailleur allignment tool might come in handy in the future but a bit pricey.
As I do like tinkering with the bike and figuring out how things work I was wondering if anyone was interested to get some 'communal tools' going.
Scott 24 hr registration
Has been open since 02/06 in case you have, just like I have, missed that completely.
We Need You, Now! The Future Of Northern Beaches Mountain Biking Is In Your Hands!

The survey is an important component of the mountain bike research that is being undertaken by Council. It demonstrates to the mountain biking community that we are looking closely at the current and future provision of facilities in Warringah.
Old ATX into a new shiny 29-er?
Hi all,
So, I have my old trusty Giant ATX760 which has been with me since the early 90's and still goes strong! Last year I overhauled it with 2010 XT - complete groupset!
My question is - has anyone had any experience 'converting' their frames to 29-inch specs? Old or new will help.
I'm thinking of upgrading the wheels to 29-ers and in theory they'll fit (I've measured both front and rear wheel arches / forks, etc. I'll have to alter the calipers (am thinking of going disk anyway!) grip length, but other than that - it should work, no?
Any experiences / ideas / thoughts?
Torpedo7 ongoing saga
I have a question for the community - about torpedo7 customer service.. I have some evidence to suspect it is a common scenario for many T7 customers..
Few weeks back I bought from T7 myself a birthday present - Crank Brothers' Joplin4 R seatpost - it was only $249 on special.
Im New!
Hey Guys! Im Tomas. Im new here.
I used to do a fair bit of mtb'ing when i lived in Tumut and have recently been contemplating getting back into it. Having a look around there really are alot of good quality bikes out there at the moment and I have no idea which way to proceed.
Things have changed dramatically since i used to ride - would only occasionally see a front suspension bike - with dual suspension being a rarity. Now there are 29ers! Which im still trying to get to the bottom of.
Fuji bikes – opinions (& other brands I want)
Hi guys,
Just wanted your opinions on the quality of the Fuji bikes, MTB only:
In my personal opinion, I felt they were like a general sport store brand, so no the best; but when looking at what they produce, seems better than I thought. I never had the opportunity to try one, so that's why I looking on your comments and how you feel in general about this brand.
Rear shock lock out
I have a Trance X2 2011 only 2 months old and I am new to MTB riding
when rear shock RP2 is locked out how much travel should there be, seems to be the same
where ever the lever is dose the lock out position only make it stiffer
What to wear MTB
I've been back riding for a year now and figure it's time to get some riding gear.
At the moment I ride in board shorts & tee shirts. Now that it's winter that's not too good!
So I'm wondering what people wear and why.... I.e is it for 'fashion' only or are there specific things that improve the riding experience?
Royal National Park information
Hi all, can anyone suggest a good ride route at RNP? I've never been there before but want to check it out next weekend with some other beginner riders. The NPWS website isn't very forthcoming with details and the ride database on this site hasn't had an update in a couple years. Something not too hilly and 10 - 30 km length would be ideal. Is Rob's cruisy loop entered onto the database way back in 2007 still a good one? Otford lookout is sensational and has a great track heading north from it that I walked a couple years ago...can you ride that track?
Shimano XT brake caliper service parts
After cleaning my bike in the wake of today's decidedly damp Manly Dam ride, I discovered I have a sticky piston in my rear brake caliper.
I figured I might as well do a full service and replace the piston seals, but have drawn a blank in my web searches.
Was also wondering where to get the 5-sided driver to get the alloy insert out of the one-piece caliper so I can get the pistons out to clean the bores.
Any clues?

Would be nice to see some more bike brand exhibitors.
Delicious, are Giant going to put a face in?
Australian made bikes and components.
We all buy foreign bits and pieces for our bikes but what if you want to support Australian products? How do you find Australian products?
Please post up anything bike related that is made in Australia so we can support our local bicycle industry.

RE: VEHICLE & MOUNTAIN BIKE BAN - MEETING, THURSDAY JULY 7
On behalf of all MTB riders I would like to thank all who attended the meeting and especially the efforts of Gavin Atkins, the ANSTO Media Advisor, his approachability, interest and concern were greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank Dr Simon Kean from NOBMOB & Trail Care, who has been instrumental in his support to help us reach a timely solution.
MTB Setup
My old Giant Iguana hardtail has served me well doing many multi day XC rides but is now getting a bit tired(no disc brakes). I want to set up my barely used 07 Giant Trance 1 dually so it feels similar to my old bike.
On the last major ride on my Trance between Pickering Brook and Dwellingup the front wheel kept skating off the track unexpectantly when descending in pea gravel.
The panniers weighed about 12kg and I am unsure if my weight (78kg) was too far back or forward on the bike to cause this steering problem.
I have never had issues descending in pea gravel with my hardtail.
The Oaks
HI, Will be doing the Oaks tomorrow - Woodford to EMu PLains.
Can anyone assist with the directions from Glenbrook to Emu Plains. Was thinking to get on the train a little bit earlier at Emu plains and get a little more riding in.
Thanks
Interesting concept from Giant Bikes re: sponsor a 'real' rider vs sponsor a pro
Came across this today whilst kicking about youtube.

Want to be a sponsored rider for riding the way you like?
Kinda cool.
Yes I am entering and no I am not affiliated with Giants bikes... haha I just ride them and love them.
Any one into multi-sport events?
Curious if any riders are into more sports than mtb.
I'm thinking of doing the Nepean Odyssey. Organized by same crew doing Kanangra 100. Involves mtb, kayaking and xc running. At 80k's total, it's gonna test me out, especially as I've never really kayaked before. So I'm doing more training before I commit. It was gonna be held in Nov, but now pushed way back to March. Get more training in I guess...and find some kayak gear
Riding Partners
Just got back into riding after 8yrs not on a bike since leaving Whistler. Looking for crew to ride with show some cool trails. PM or email me if you keen to ride
a question re 19th hole Manly Dam
In my view, 19th hole has a fundamental problem hiding in its final roll over - yes, for most simple mortals myself included it's a roll over and as such it's the one line only - the last stone has a tendency to wander around and could present a problem if moved further down the line.. well, it did to me once - I did jump it, but since then I've been feeling a little twitchy each time I approach the section..
I am wondering if something could be done about it - remove it completely, or stabilize, etc..
