New Bike, perfectly suited for the conditions.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

With the current run of appalling weather, sodden tracks and cabin fever getting too much I have been wondering what I can do to get out there and escape from it.

This looked like a great way of being able to ride regardless of how damp the trails may get:

akwakat-waterbike-1a

It is convertible from a "Dry" MTB to a "Wet" MTB with minimal effort, not quite sure what the NPWS rangers would make of it on the Perimiter Trail?

If so, can anyone give me directions?

Cheers in advance.

Just wanted to drop a note about my new ride. I've been riding a Giant VT3 for the last 7 years and got pretty used to how it climbed and descended.

can a rusty chain be brought back?

hey,
say you cleaned your bike one day including taking off the chain and you left the good quality (middle tier shimano) chain outside on the patio and forgot about it and due to all the bad weather keeping you off the bike you only stumbled across it about 3 weeks later to find it all rusty...can the chain be brought back to life somehow?
obviously i would never be this careless, it's just my mate said this is what happened...
my mate would appreciate any constructive feedback thanks,

Which gloves for XC?

I went in store and tried on some gloves and found that XL best fitted me. L was unable to get on without a fight and XL was loose and had extra finger length. I ordered a pair of XL Fox Incline (full finger) and a pair of XL Fox Tahoe (Fingerless) from The Bike Shed. After recieving them I found them a little tight to get on but I have full movement once on. Once out riding I start to loose feeling in my thumb, pointer and middle finger and start to also get pins and needles.

Completed Manly Dam Works 12/6/11

After recent discussion (see Manly Dam Closed for works and Manly Dam Golf Course single track works) about the works at Manly Dam here are some images taken today.

This currently doesn't look that bad. Here's hoping the dirt on top of the BBQ pavers stays there!

Dirtworks 2012

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey,

Long way off till the event, though I want to start early.

Finishing my last year of school this year, I'm looking into racing in the Dirtworks Classic next year as one of my first races, and was keen to hear some suggestions people had in terms of training for the event.

Firstly, being my first race longer than 20km, should I just do the 50km event or should I gun it to all 100km? I've been quite fit the past two years, and am capable of 100km, though in a race situation I should get used to this type of race over a shorter distance.

N - 3 + 1

After a bit of stress selling off some bikes that weren't getting as much use as they should. The planets aligned and a Scott Scale 29 RC feel into my lap.

Took a little bit of a gamble and went for the large frame, fits me like a glove. Can't see the ASR getting much use, it maybe forsale soon (once I work out what to replace it with).

Having so much fun on this bike, been out to Mount Annan the last two days.

Why can't you ride when its real wet, muddy? I know it apparently

I know it 'trashes'your bike but how ?? and what to do if you did happen to go out riding when it's wet because you're a rookie?

Trail status - Camden River

Did this run this morning about 8am.

Not been a drop of rain there, grip is really good. I even managed the second creek crossing without putting
A foot down. Couple of bits are a bit sandy but over all it's in very good condition. The big log roll has also had some dirt and smaller logs built up each side so it can be navigated without going over the bars. (Ben Laughing out loud )

Well worth the trip down if you want to avoid the rain.

Please Update Trail Status After Rides Today - Especially Appin!!

Folks,

With all the reain, please update the trail status so those planning to ride Monday morning can plan appropriately. We are thinking of heading to Appin for the first time and it looks like it may still be ok Smiling

Replacing gear cables and more.

Though i would replace all my gear cables and outers because there too short. First time doing this sorta thing so is there anything i must look avoid or do to make my life a little easier.

I also picked myself up some chain lube and was wondering if its the right sorta stuff to be using. I got the chain wax.

I also noticed that my hubs aren't running very smoothly. There not the best hubs (standard ones) but is there anything way i can clean them or what not?

Slowly learning how to maintain my bike myself so thanks for the help.

Second Bike choice

Need new bike suggestions. Am 40+ 90kg and currently riding a 9yo hardtail twice a week around Terrey Hills. Wanting to increase my Mtb fitness/skills etc and need a new bike. Any thoughts on the Giant Anthem X1 2011 26". Budget $3000. Want to do Northern beaches trails (typically perimiter, long, ryland, sandy, centre, chiltern, duckhole + any single track) for training and aiming on XC race (intermediate level) and adventure racing. Any suggestions welcome. (N needs to equal 1 - I'll worry about +1 later).

Fox RP23 Sag Setting

Hi,

I have just picked up an Anthem X1 29er (the most farkin ugly bike on the planet). The RP23 is 100mm and my understanding is that the sag must be 25mm, but to get to that amount of sag I have to drop the pressure in the shock to about 57psi which seems low to me. I am about 64kg.

Cheers
Ian
