Warringah Council Mountain Bike Rider Survey

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I just received notice of this today. No link as yet. If you are on the mtbinfo mailing list, check your inboxes tomorrow.

On Thursday 30 June 2011 a survey will go live on Council's website that aims to collect demographic and participation data from residents and visitors who ride mountain bikes in Warringah. The survey is an important component of the moutnain bike research that is being undertaken by Council. It demonstrates to the mountain biking community that we are looking closely at the current and future provision of facilities in Warringah.

Hello everyone, newbie here

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi guys,

New too this forum talk, but keen to meet others. New to mtb as well, bout 6 mths. Have a HT 29er and ride Winmalee and Oaks fairly often. Looking forward to riding some new tracks, will keep my eyes on your calander and join up with you guys one day. Have entered some races also, so will have to keep riding...
My 12 yr old boy enjoys a spin every now and again, so he hook up to on a slower day, though he did the Woodford to Glenbrook just gone in 1:05. Not bad for a kid I reckon.
See ya's round.

Manly Dam Trail Works Update 27/6/11

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All, here's an update on the trail works situation since last week.

A nobmob member talked and walked with a Manly Dam ranger and the trail maintenance contractor last Friday regarding the placement of corralling rocks on the Golf Course tracks. The track as we all know has progressively widened over the years and they are looking at ways to tighten it up a little. Given the POM and all other things re routing of exiting lines is unrealistic in the short term so we have to conserve and make do with what is there.

What difference does a longer stem make?

    Hi Folks,

What difference to the handling will it make going from a 90mm stem to a 130mm stem. If it matters this will be on an Anthem x29er and I ordered the wrong length stem and am trying to understand what it will mean for the feel of the bike.

[Mod. moved to MTB gear - the question relates to an Anthem 29er]

    Newbie: looking for a ride

Joined this site today after meeting briefly a cyclist named Giles aka 'Hat Hill' whilst I was on an outing collecting kindling.

I have a bike that is basic, and not much used. I have ridden the Oaks trail once, over an easy 3 hours.

I am looking for other people of similar experience - next to none - (or those very patient and willing to teach some skills about riding off road).

I live in Wentworth Falls at present and would rather do some local rides ie Blue Mountains of no more than 2-3 hours duration, with an easy grade.

    Cheers,
    David

    Has Anyone Tried Manly Dam?

Now that it has been a week without any rain, has anyone tried the dam? I would assume that the bulk of the water would have drained by now, but would be keen on some verification.

    XT replacement chainring

    Hi,
Just about to order this as a chainring replacement for my XT hollowtec II (M770) crankset:
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?M...
However, someone posted in the review that it won't fit with these.
I'm confused, looks like the right thing and would have ordered it already if not for that review...
On that note, what's your experience with any of the non shimano brands?

    Thanks

    Oxford Falls on Sunday

Am thinking about riding up Oxford Hills fire trail on Sunday morning, about 7.30am start, if anyone interested. Have done Cascades but not the Falls and only know it through this site. Will probably meet down Morgan Rd.

    New bike??

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Alright. Its that time when im considering getting a new bike but far out im so confused. Don't get me wrong i love my trance... a lot but i just think its wrong for the type of riding i want to do.

Now what im thinking of is a longer travel trail bike / light all mountain so i can start riding stuff that is a bit bigger i.e. oxford falls, some red hill but still be able to ride cascades with out having too much trouble getting back up those hills.

And now what about a 29er :S is it worth looking at a 29er for this sorta riding?

Can anyone help me with the follwing:

    1. Where and when do i get my race number(if they have them)?
    2. I hear the race starts at 9AM - is that confirmed?
    3. Exactly where is th start line. I am assumign its at the head of the Oaks trail off taylor Rd. is that a good assumption?

Thanks - excuse the basic questions - it is my first time.

    Camden "Kessel Run" Sat 9am?

I'm keen for another go at the Kessel Run out at Camden, a fantastic 100% singletrack ride which a group of us did recently.

Given that the forecast is currently for dry weather all week, this weekend is looking good.

So just want to see if anyone's interested in hitting it say Saturday 9am.

If there's some interest I'll create a ride meeting.

    Advice

This is a shout-out to all of you that have competed at the Back Yamma Bigfoot event last year, i need some advice on training. My fitness is at a good level and getting better each week, but i need to hit the trails (as soon as they dry out :S) to work on some technical skills. This being my first race and first time at the Bigfoot event, i was wondering if anyone could tell me:
    1. How technical is the 50km event?
    2. What are some good technical rides (within the NBeaches).
