Manly Dam... This won't be the last works!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The recent works to Manly Dam would have required a level of planning. Its got me thinking there is likely to be another 'attack' on the track in the near future.

I can't understand the council on this. They ran forums where there was overwhelming support by mountain bikers. A key theme by this group was no dumbing down of the trail.

I'm going to call council today to ask who is responsible for these planned works and request a meeting. Perhaps we also need to organize a large group of us to attend the next council meeting in protest.

End of rant...

Inspiration for new trails to try

Hiya,
Been the long weekend I have the option of an extra days biking. I'd like to try somewhere new, always get a good buzz of a new trail. looking for something around the sydney area(ish).

A quick run down of where I've been - Awaba, Ourimba, Dam(closed), Yellowmundie, Appin, Oaks.

Any suggestions?

Hey guys,

My little boy is about 10 months now and I feel it's time to start getting him out on a bike. I have a commuter and would like to set up a system so I can take him out on mellow street cruises.

I'm thinking a rear rack style, but would be interested to hear any BMORCer's experiences or reccomendations.

Thanks,

Chris

Brakes for the Missus...

I'm slowly but surely upgrading the Missus's hardtail....long term project. One of the issues I have is that she has petit hands and cannot reach the conventional levers on the current brake set-up. Can anyone advise me on what to look out for with regards to new levers or brakes suitable for ladies or something of a similar nature. Any tips welcome!

Anyone keen for a ride Monday 13th?

Hi All,

I wondered if anyone is up for a ride Monday 13th with an 8.30ish start? Not fussed which trail as long as it's not much more than an hour from the cbd. If you want I can put up a calendar entry when we've sorted a location.

Chain Meshing Sound???

No this in not a chain suck topic Smiling

I'm putting a new bike together and its running SRAM PG990 9spd cassette and Truvativ Noir XC 3.3 Team GXP triple crankset. I have fitted a 9spd CN7701 dura-ace/XTR chain but the meshing of the chain to the gears (both front and rear) just doesn't sound or feel right. Not that it sounds bad and maybe I'm just being a bit anal but just doesn't sound perfect Eye-wink

Has anyone had this before as I haven't. Any thoughts?

The Grove Bike Park Official Opening - You're invited!

Although I have had absolutely nothing to do with this venture, from what I hear local volunteers have put in a massive amount of work, showed much patience and stuck this through to achieve an excellent result:

That being that Manly Council have now officially recognised the dirt jumps and pump track at The Grove in Seaforth.

They are having an opening ceremony June 16 @ 3:30pm and riders are invited to take part and enjoy a BBQ afterwards.

Please see the flyer below and RSVP by phone to 9976 1487

Well done all involved - this just goes to show good things can happen!

Manly Dam Closed for works

Hello Mountain Bikers,

Sorry for the late notice, but we are having some work done on the track commencing today, Monday 6th June. These works will continue for a few weeks and will involve the use of heavy materials and as such we will need to CLOSE the track to all bike traffic during this time for the safety of riders and contractors. We will advise once the track is re-opened. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Kind regards,

Manly Dam Rangers

This is SERIOUS!

'The Age' Article: Pushy pushbikers pushing their luck!

THEY'RE the bullies of the roadways, they're the most aggressive vehicles on the street, they're just big-tyred energy-guzzling eyesores that intimidate every car driving around them - and it's time something was done about those 2-Wheel Non-Drive vehicles they call bicycles.

MTB'ing is the new golf...

I have a 'work meeting' with an interstate colleague on Saturday - he's passing through Sydney airport and has a 6 hours layover...

I want to take him to Royal National Park for a MTB ride (based on proximity to airport) ....which are the recommended RNP tracks under the recent weather conditions?

Crank Bro Mallets

I just bought some Crank brother mallets, but before i installed them. i noticed 1 moves alot less freely than the other and feels a bit notchy.

The shop where i bought them from said to chuck them on the bike and see if they free up. Does that sound right or am i just getting spun BS?

Glenrock & Awaba very wet!!!

please stay off these trails as they have had an insane amount of rain this week & will need heaps of sun & wind to dry,so if you are travelling up from Sydney or wherever looking for dry trails sadly these are not.
