Manly Dam and Cascades Condition Today????

Has anybody been at the Dam or the Cacades today. Trying to suss out if the trails are reasonable ridable after the rain as I am contemplating a night ride.

Lance

Interesting article by Richard Hinds in the smh today http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cycling/backpedallin....

I'm a huge Lance fan but I am starting to have my doubts. If the reports about Hincapie are correct it will be pretty damning, the first from someone not caught already.

Road trip

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Not much more than idle speculation at this stage, but the idea of a road trip to Alice Springs next May for the Red Centre Enduro is starting to exercise my mind.

Have a 4WD and camping gear, so any route is possible, but I'd like to include some mtb riding to gain / maintain a bit of fitness along the way and explore new areas as well. Spots that come to mind at this stage include Orange (Kinross), Forbes (Back Yamma) and the Flinders (Melrose, Mawson Trail, Bendelby Ranges).

Report: The rise and rise of online retail

This is a bit interesting... we all know shopping online is cheaper, and prices are higher in Australia than overseas, but here's a report from The Australia Institute about just how large the difference is:

https://www.tai.org.au/index.php?q=node%2F19&pub...

See page 19 about bike parts.

FWIW, this isn't a dig at your LBS, they mainly have their hands tied by distributors from what I can tell Sad

BMORC Call for Volunteers

FYI everybody

All

Firstly, apologies for the lack of information that we have been sharing with Blue Mountains Riders of late. We understand not everybody has time to browse the www.bmorc.com website, however, this is always the best source of up to date information.

Apologies for the extreme short notice, however BMORC and NPWS/DECCW have banded together to organise our first joint trail care program in the Blue Mountains, focusing on the single track at the Glenbrook end of the Oaks.

Kanagra Classic Selling out!

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi Guys,

Just a heads up that the 50km for the KC has alreeady sold out and the 100km has less than 50 spots left I believe!

As a result the organisers have extended the early bird offer for the 100km until the 12th June! Looks like I'll be doing my first 100km event in October!!

Hope to see some of you there!

Not so flash wheel

Went for a cruizey two laps of manly dam on saturday, after 1st lap i noticed a very loose spoke, so i tightened it, then checked again after lap two, and TWO spokes were loose, nearly undone.! The wheel is a Red Metal 3. and i aint a heavy rider, and dont think i was going too hard. This wheel has been dissapointing. What tough wheel should i get next.?

Riding out west - Kinross and Geurie

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Anybody riden either Kinross at Orange or Geurie as I will be maybe getting 3 hrs riding time out there this weekend. I have the maps, but as there is quite a bit at Kinross has anyone rode there and have some suggestions on some of the choice bits and sections.

Also is the trail at Geurie worth a visit or should I just spend more time at Orange?

Hello, my name is....

Arik... I though I'd introduce myself since this is my first time here. I am pretty new to Sydney and entirely new to mountain biking in Sydney (or Australia for that matter) but I've been self propelling for years. I got my MTB shipped over here and I've become a little sick of just looking at it and thought its about time I figure out where to ride! I don't have a car, so if there are any suggestions or people riding within ride-shot of Chatswood I would love to know. I've heard Manly Damn is a good spot, looks like sort of a stretch to pedal on knobbies all the way there though...

10 speed V 9 speed shifting

Anyone else noticed that the shift feel between 10 speed V 9 speed (both SRAM X.0) seems that the 10 speed is harder to shift (like more tension on the mech)?
Having been riding a 10 speed for a while, I really noticed today when I took the old trusty 9 speed out for a ride and found the 9 speed just shift feels better all round..?

Cables are good on both bikes.

Annoying creak

G'Day guys.

As most people probably experience I've got an annoying creak from the back of my bike somewhere. I'm hoping it just the bottom bracket threads needing a bit of grease but I can reproduce a similar creak by holding the seat and pushing the back wheel side to side. I've greased the seat post and rails and sprayed silicon lube on all the pivots and checked the tension on all but the one behing the chain rings.
The creak is much worse under load going up steep hills which made me think BB.

Time shoe found

Hi saw a single TIME MTB racing shoe outside the play school at Terrey Hills yesterday Midday. It's black and silver and was feeling very lonely. It was on the left side facing the school near a power pole, just off the pavement..

Lonely lefty on Time....

New Bike Time - Mountaincycle Battery

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

The new trails, particularly the twisty downward inclined sections.....won't say downhill.....have inspired me to go get a new ride.

Frame/fork has made its way to sydney and I'll be getting it friday next week. I expect the building of the bike will take for ever.

This won't be my every day bike (that's coming later in the year http://www.mountaincycle.com/zenII), so I decided to go something that will be fun on the downward sections, most likely a lot of work on the way back up, but good for some fun desents, general stuffing around and a bit of jumping.

Meet the Battery.

Manly Dam wildlife

Snapped on a lunchtime lap today. Not a particularly scary beast, but well positioned across the track! I would've thought most of these fellas would be bunking down for the winter - this guy just couldn't resist a nice sunny day.

CRC credit card issue

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

CRC had a well discussed credit card issue a few months back where it people were having fraudulent charges made to their credits cards with the common factor being purchases from CRC. I have avoided them for that reason but after buying what I can lately from alternative, Australian websites there is no getting around their range and their prices.
