XTR Front Derailleur Issues

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

hi all,
having some issues with my front derailleur (XTR e-type). just can't get this thing to behave properly. I have currently adjusted it so it works well enough for the high gears (large CR front, smallest cog rear) and its also fine on the small chain ring.
however on the middle chainring the chain starts rubbing the inside of the FDR as soon as i shift on to the third largest cog on the back
releasing some tension on the shifter (SRAM X0) helps but that in turn means the chain will rub against the outside of the FDR when back in the 3 fastest gears (large CR front)....

Worrying sounds

I was recently riding at Manly Dam and heard a worrying creaking/clisking noise coming from what seems to be the suspension. (maybe it's the headset?) I've heard the sound before and never payed too much attention to it. Its gotten worse (every bump i hear the noise) and i am a little at loss at what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx Laughing out loud

Mtb Saddles?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

XC and marathon racing saddles - I am looking to replace the Scott branded saddle on my spark 40. I would like to save some weight and also something which is narrower.

The thing with a saddle is how do you know unless you put it on your bike and ride for a few hours?

I am a lightweight and find the scott saddle gets in the way a bit when I move forward and back. On my road bike my saddle narrow with almost no padding and I find this is comfortable.

Innovative new bike build - The Hybrid Flip-Flop Fixie

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've been thinking about what to do with an 8 year old mtb frame I have for a while. Last week I was browsing online and found this fixie solution from Velo Solo that enables you to fix the cog onto the disc brake mount. This means that on the freehub side, you can run another cog, making a hybrid flip-flop fixie & free wheel bike (flip-flop because you can flip the wheel over to change Smiling). See picture it makes way more sense... so that's the project. A hybrid front suspension freehub street bike or a super fast fixie for getting to and from work nice and quick.

Gear lever sticking??

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I have a Sram X7 lever. It has started to stick when changing down gears. It only happens when you try to down shift a couple of gears quickly. The lever stays in the forward position and must be pulled back with my thumb before I can change another gear. I have lubed the cable and inside the lever body through the rubber flap. Still is causing a problem. Any advice on how to remedy would be apprieciated.

Rusty Shimano XT Pedals

Hi All
Had XT pedals on my bike for the last 6 months, all the cleat plates, tension springs and axles have major rust on them. It's an expensive bike, I think I do a pretty good job looking after it, no other rust on the bike, my other cheapo bike has M520's had it for 2 years, usally ride it when thing are wet, don't look after it that well, M520 not a speck of rust on them, a third of the price of the XT's, in this case I don't think you get what you pay for. Anyone else having this problem? maintenance tips?

Cheers

Stem Length and Tilt

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was hoping someone may have some knowledge about stem length and tilt and how that affects ride comfort? I've stuffed my back (L5/S1 disc protrusion, herniation and annular tear!) over my soccer years and it's now started to become a problem whilst riding. I'm trying to set-up my bike properly so that I can continue riding and avoid further damage to my spine. Otherwise the wife is going to get really p@#$%d at me for spending days at a time lying on the floor in pain!

MotoX riders on Ryland this afternoon

Just finished riding Ryland track and came across 3 MotoX bikes half way in., Confronted them....wasn't too brave me on my own versus 3 guys on bikes however did point out they weren’t permitted to be there. The lead rider was very quick to tell me he had been riding in there for 10 years with no problems. They had no license plates on the bikes and no car or trailer parked on Mona vale rd. Their tracks seemed to come thru the linking trail to St Ives Showground. I can only imagine they park their trailer at St Ives Showground then come through the back into Ryland.

Awaba race advice

Hey guys, I'm pretty keen to start racing and someone recommended i try the xc race at awaba this sunday, can anyone give me some advice on what grade to enter? I'm pretty comfortable around the 20km mark distance wise but that's just at cruising pace, i imagine at race speed that will be significantly shortened. I don't really want to bite off more than i can chew, but at the same time there is no honor in thrashing children and grannies LOL Sticking out tongue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Signs for the dam

Recently noticed a random pic on this site it was of a sign saying "dont ride if muddy" how do we get these or similar at all entrances to the Dam? Happy to contribute time & money and would assume council and rangers would chip in.
A sign the size of the fire ones "open or closed" that could be seen when you drive down w/hurst would also be good
