Manly Dam - Condition report fot Thursday Please
Would like to head out there tomorrow morning, so if anyone rides it today then please post a report. The last ones seem to have been from Tuesday, and given the sun, I am hoping it has dried out.
Riding around the Killcare area
Heading to Killcare over the long weekend. Has anyone got some local knowledge for the area or advise on any close rides? Any advice most appreciated.
Loose Skewer
Can anyone tell me why my front skewer keeps running loose? Since having the bike serviced 6 weeks ago my front skewer runs loose during rides. It loosens so much that the whole skewer shifts position (from pointing upwards to pointing downwards). I keep forgetting about until I look down whilst flying through the trails to see it pointing the wrong way... Impending wheel detachment and a superman over the handlebars is most likely:)
Seat mounted hydration system
I can't decide if this is a good idea or not.

I like that the weight is off your back, but it seems a little too high & would affect balance - especially if its half-full (or half-empty) & the water is sloshing from side to side through tight turns.
Help with OH&S - Cycle in the Office
Hello all, I work in an office in Sydney CBD. I cycle my pride and joy in every day and park her in my office (behind my desk). My office is on the 10th floor which is served by 6 lifts, which I use to get the bike up there.
A colleague of mine who is a fellow cyclist was lambasted by the building manager stating taking a cycle into a lift was an OHS issue. It seems if a cycle is in a lift and there is a fire, it's dangerous or something. NB the lifts are wide enough that people can get out whilst the cycle is in there.
Remote seat posts
I'm tossing up the idea of investing in a remote seat post. I've read plenty of mags with reviews although I'd like some first hand wisdom from the real world.

Phone sports tracker apps
Just wondered which app (if any) you use while out on your bike and what phone you're using.
I have a Galaxy S (droid 2.2) and use Endomondo. It's reasonably accurate, reliable and the onlonline part is very comprehensive.
I tried run keeper but it kept dropping signal and just didn't work very well. Friends who have iphones don't seem to have a problem with it though.
Bike Shops vs Internet
It's a fact bike shops are losing business to the internet. Many of us on this site use the internet to buy cheap parts. If you read the local bike magazines the topic rears its head occasionally. If you talk to bike shop owners, the topic rears its head often. Can the 2 (internet and shops) coexist?
Site newbie/ Manly Dam help?
Hi,
I really like this site, the maps, presentation, helpfulness is off the charts. Always wanted to go for a ride through oxford falls and did so on the weekend. On the numerous times I felt lost one look at the maps had me back on track. It was a great ride and an awesome workout, sliding up those hills took everything I had but was still very enjoyable.
Protective layer on Carbon Fiber parts
Hi all,
I was hoping for a bit of advice. I've got my nice new Carbon Fibre frame, but the paint is getting rubbed off in a few places from brake/shifter cables near the headset, as well as from my bike rack. The bike rack actually chipped the paint some, which I'm not happy about at all!
I'm hoping someone may have an idea of how to protect the frame from this type of wear? I was thinking a thin plastic shield would work really well, along the lines of what I've already got on the bottom of the down-tube.
Sydney bike paths/cycle ways
Does anyone know of a website that shows all the bike paths and cycleways around the Sydney Basin? Each Council area seems to have their own but was hoping there is a collective view somewhere
Glenrock Guide
I'm in Newcastle on Tuesday 10th May to see some clients. I'll probably be finished around 3pm and was thinking about riding Glenrock immediately afterwards.
As I gather Glenrock is hit and miss if you don't know where you're going, I thought I'd see if anyone was available for a early afternoon ride & guide.
Any takers?

First timer advice for Ourimba
Hi,
I'm planning on heading up to Ourimba from Sydney with a mate on good Friday. Never been before and dont want to make the same mistakes I did with Menai. Too long of a drive to head home frustrated. Looking for some good XC trails and as much single track as possible. Is there good loops to tackle. I can put it up on the calendar if there's a bit of interest.
Buying gear online - great experience!
Just wanted to call out the incredible customer service from cellbikes.com.au. I have no links to them other than being a customer. I searched everywhere for new "bite valve" for my Camelbak. Found it online at cellbikes.com.au - ordered 2 last night (Sunday) and have just had the package delivered to my door by courier less than 18 hours later.
I have bought quite a lot of odds and end from them over the years - never a stuff up or problems. Well done to them - keen to see if others have a similar experience with them.

Cascades?
Can anybody tell me if the Cascades are ok to ride given the amount of rain over the weekend? Do the trails have the same erosion problems as Manly Dam? I want to ride this week and with Manly Dam being my local ride I am obviously avoiding that area until it dries out. I didn't want to ride the Cascades area (which I have never ridden before) and get in trouble for doing so.
Can anyone advise?
Cheers
2011 Australian Marathon Championships
The marathon champs were held in Qld yesterday at Mt Joyce just south of Brisbane. The men's event was taken out by Jason English followed by Andy Blair then Shaun Lewis. Jason the machine is doing the national solo 24's next weekend then the Dirtworks the weekend after. Crazy?
Mrs Antsonline Jenny Fay won the women's event. Awesome!
Newbie advice needed
Hi all.
I've recently discovered the Manly Dam trail and really enjoyed it. It's really well looked after and tricky but fun at the same time. I'd like to do it again soon and some of the other trails in the area, the only thing is my $200 Diamond Back, Big W special isn't up to the job.
I'm not loaded with cash and only have about $600 to spare. As I see it I have 4 options.
1) Go to local bike shop, hand over $600 and come away with a Malvern Star or low end Giant, Trek etc.
2) Find something on Ebay.
3) Save a few more $ till I reach $???? for a really good bike.

Spate of bike thefts in Manly?
Is this reported spate of bike thefts anything out of the ordinary, or do you think the only extraordinary thing here is that it actually got reported and ended up in the press?

Either way - take care.
Sometimes a full face helmet is not enough
This is actually a motorbike incident, but looks like he was going slow enough so guess our could easily happen to a cyclist too.
Warning... Not for the squeamish!
Car hits cyclist - Lastest statistic
Just add me to the statistics - Car hitting cyclist!! (1st time - hopefully the last)
Last week i was cleaned up by a motorist while riding along McCarrs Ck Rd, on my way to the Duck Holes.
All this in the middle of the day...visibility was clear.
I was hit from behind while travelling around 40km/h and thrown forward on to my back and slid further down the road. You can only image the words that came out of my mouth immediatey after being hit, oh ^@#kkkkkkkkkkkkkk.
video of a section of the track (menai)
This section is basically all downhill. to get to this place the quickest and easiest go to -34.027541,150.994417 There is a car park and a tap here as well.

Maxxis Exception series tubeless.....good or bad?
I just received some tyres I bought from wiggle. I bought a standard (non tubeless) Maxxis Ignitor to run tubeless with stans sealant.
The problem is the tyre they sent is the exception series not the standard one i thought i was getting.. Can I run the exception tyre tubeless with stans sealant as i normally would with a standard tyre?
I know the side walls of the exception series are alot thinner. Im a bit worried about using this tyre at the dirt works in a couple of weeks too, but if i send it back i doubt i will receive a replacement in time for the race.
