Kangaroo Valley

Going to be down in Kangaroo Valley this weekend for a wedding so hoping to take the bike and get a ride in before the main event.

Anybody know of any nice tracks down there...preferably something that's not going to do too much damage should I stack! Eye-wink

Cheers

Do you want shooters in parks you ride?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Dunno about anyone else, but this news makes my blood boil:

http://www.smh.com.au/environment/ofarrell-over-...

Hunting in state forests has been discussed here before (see 'Conservation' Hunting in NSW State Forests) but if you thought that was a stupid idea, what about letting shooters into National Parks?

IMBA - Bring the Riding to the People

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Municipal mountain bike parks are a relatively new concept that, simply put, brings the excitement of off-road cycling to city-dwellers of all ages and skills. This is the story of three parks, in three very different communities, with one thing in common. All were built using sustainable practices on underused park land by an all-volunteer workforce in a remarkable show of cooperation among cities, land managers and private citizens to "bring the riding to the people."

Hoping for some suggestions of where to ride in/around Sydney....

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi all,

Just recently discovered this site and happily it has also conincided with an ever increasing addiction to riding!!

My better half and I moved to Sydney about a year ago, however haven't had the chance to get in much riding due to some rather busy times! Happy to say though that we now have a relatively clear calendar and we're looking to get out and about as much as possible, enjoy some riding and hopefully meet some new faces along the way. I've been riding for about two years now, and my partner has just started - although she is proving to be a bit of natural! Smiling

School Holiday Oaks Ride

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm thinking about doing the Oaks Trail including the singletrack bit at the end some time this week, as I've taken the school holidays off work to spend with the kids. My teenager is keen to join.

Wondering if there are any other parents who might like to do a ride with their kids, including - hopefully - a local who can show us the way as I've not done it before.

Woodford to Glenbrook Classic - advice?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Looking to do the Woodford to Glenbrook Classic for the first time this year. Whats the best logistics advice regarding going up there on my own (family got kids football obligations). Where to park the car, catch the train with the bike? Anyone figured it out? Travelling from Sydney - can you get up there in enough time to make the 9Am start?

Night Riding at Terrey Hills

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Just taken delivery of the cell bikes 1200 lumen light - Great distance.

Is there anything other than being sensible about riding at Terrey Hills at Night. I have ridden the trail half a dozen times during the day and really enjoy it. Find it easy to ride.

Concerns are, Snakes (not jelly ones), spiders, horses, wallabies and the 'Homeless'or any hoods. ( I have ridden around beecroft/epping over the years during the day and come across numerous homeless/hobos and teenagers looking for trouble.

Race recommendations for a novice

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Keen to get some advice from all you more experienced riders out there. I am a XC novice but really enjoy the time out on my bike and keen to get started in a couple of "races" nothing too radically technical or physically punishing! Looking at starting with 25km races and building from there. What would you guys recommend I get started with?

GNR Over Easter

With the Dirtworks looming large I want to get out to GNR to check out the route (well as much as possible) I am keen to avoid the Tuesday of Easter as there is Crit racing I wanna do but am flexible apart from that and could do anytime from Friday Morning till Monday of the Extra Long Weekend.

I have never ridden out there so if anyone is coming along that knows the route even better, Once we have a idea of numbers I will stick up a ride etc.

I know Phil is keen?

My new ride - Marin Mount Vision 5.7 + review

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

My riding style has changed a bit over the past 6 months. Becoming more trail/all mountain orientated. Due to this my Norco 6 had become a bit redundant and difficult to ride on those longer trail epics. Enter the need for a new bike.

Since my light free-riding days are all but over, I still do like the occasional 4-5ft drop. I basically needed a do it all bike. It needed to be able to climb like a goat, ride trails all day long and descend techy rock gardens etc with ease.

Mtb XC Racing Skills Clinics

Does anyone have any suggestions for mtb skills clinics. I have done an intermediate course with AMBC and that was great, but the more advanced XC clinics are not scheduled regularly.

I found that once you have done a clinic you get more improvement out of your general practice, as you try to ride using the techniques. Better to practice good technique rather than dodgy technique.

Since its been over a year since the last course I was on I am keen to revisit and extend what I've learnt.

Any ideas?

Whos left in Sydney this weekend keen for a long ride?

I'm scheduled to complete a 4 to 6 hour ride this weekend (either Saturday or Sunday), anyone keen?

Most likely will be at Wingello, possibly GNR, plan to keep a consistant pace without many stops.

Good luck to those doing the Mont 2011

Seeing as some people have already made the pilgrimage to the Mont, I thought I would post a quick good luck message to those riding and those unsung heroes - the supporters!

Hope you have a mechanical free event and a safe journey (there and back!)
