trail fairies

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Trail fairies have been very at Rydal busy again.

The rain wasn't really soaking in but should do the dug jumps and berms a bit of good
Lincon and Stevie have put in big efforts. Me and Tallis did some more digging. Todd was ripping in too. Richard plans to head out again tomorrow.

I meant to take the camera out to get some pics but completely forgot,

Again if any one has time to do a bit of raking, whipper snipping and sculpting just head on out and do your best.

the family comuter

If MUNI was not enough, I have now finally gotten the whole family into riding. Somehow with me at the helm I think I got the raw end of the deal. Second seat for wife, third for 6 year old daughter and trailer for 4 yo.

Manly hot laps

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was just interested in peoples thoughts about the speed of Manly. I've been riding it for years and it feels to me lately that I guess because of the high traffic and slowly developing ruts and bumps underfoot( or underwheel that may well read!) that it actually runs a bit slower. It's certainly not a complaint - and it could well be because I am riding with a lighter more responsive bike or just that I'm 5 years older but I find when I'm doing a hot lap that the parts you crank up on I find the juddering seems to prohiibit me from getting to the speed that I used to.

What tools should I take on a 80 minute race?

I'm going to do my final race for school at Thredbo for the Australian schools championships next weekend, and in the process of wanting to save carrying a lot, wonder if anyone has any suggestions as to what are the necessary tools for a 20km (5 lap) race... Also - should I use a water bottle or camelbak for the duration of the race and how much water is necessary for the duration.

Cheers

I am racing in the Banzai LifeCycle at Mount Annan the 24km event. My training has been going well getting quicker and more confident every time I ride.

Mitchells Pass Riders BEWARE DANGER!!!

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

All,

I just went for a lap of Mitchells Pass to discover that the two big boulders have been moved to the side of the road, but just pass them (~20m) where the road opens up at Garry Payne corner, steel gates have been placed across the road. Although there was only one gate being cemented in today it wont be long before the second appears.

Spread the word as this is a dangerous issue for riders coming down the hill at speed, especially at night time. We dont want a second death on this road.

We can say good bye to PB's up the hill also.

My brother and I used to ride a series of trails north of Red Hill. A big climb up from the Parkway, miles and miles of tight winding single-trail, finishing off with my favourite descent of technical downhill that really tests you. It’s here I’ve had the most “oh-shit” moments and broken bones, and everywhere else I ride ends up being compared (usually unfavourably) with this loop.
We did this ride for the first time in quite a while about a month ago and found all the ramps etc on the downhill had broken and were falling apart, rendering most of the best sections un-rideable.

GT Bikes?

Is it me or are GT bikes unpopular? I was at Stromlo on the weekend and a race was on - I didn't see 1 GT bike...fleets of Giants, Trek, Specialized etc, Was I not looking hard enough? I've fallen in love with a GT Sensor 2.0 and I just feel like I'm miss informed about something?... We then headed over to Sparrow hill for a loop and I still didn't see any... What am I missing? :s

Hey boys and girls
A place has opened up on my Mont team - male 4's (but can be changed to mixed no doubt). We're a bunch of easy going '30 something' weekend warriors all riding 32 minute-ish Dam laps. We're looking for one lucky guy or girl to join our team.

Our team members are (click link to view our hotlaps):

Folding Bike - but Full Sized 26" HT!

Just came across this in my inbox - seems pretty cool. I do wonder though how the frame would actually handle proper technical off-road riding...

I mean, It's one thing to have a wheel come off, but to have the whole front (or rear) triangle Shocked

2x10 vs 3x10

As the topic indicates, what is the opinion/consensus on 2x10's vs 3x10's???
i myself have both and i have found that considerably more leg power/stamina is required running a 2x10 than 3x10 (but perhaps that's because i am just unfit???)

can anyone comment on there experience???

thanks in advance Smiling

Lost iPod shuffle Terrey Hills

I lost my iPod shuffle on the 27th Feb, when fixing my chain in the drizzle on the long trail, I think Whisper helped fix the chain... I might have left it just to the left of a waterbar on the outward journey on the long trail, just down from the short steep climb/decent... If any riders have seen it in a little round black case (good colour..not!) please let me know.
I might have also dropped it at the coffee shop car park... or a number of places that day! but this is worth a shot.
Cheers

Home mechanic help

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

In the vain effort of trying to improve my mechanical skills I am slowly rebuilding a bike. In this I have just put in a new set of XT cranks and bottom bracket – seemed easy enough. Although I did have to tap the crank with a wooden mallet to pop it through the BB. Not a big wack, just a gentle tap – is this usual? It seemed to be just getting the end to clear through – this was also the case when not on the bike so I am happy things are square.

What time will WSMTB racing finish?

I'm planning on heading out to Yellomundi tomorrow (Sun) for the first time and am not keen to race. Any ideas on what time the club XC will finish and whether tracks will be accessible afterwards?

cheers
