Hornsby Shire trails - support needed

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Support needed from riders in the Hornsby area. Some planned trail building in the Hornsby Shire has been put on hold due to the usual ill-informed local lobbying of council, causing them to backflip on plans to build XC trails in the area. Email from HSMBA below, with ways to help out if you're interested.

Hi Fellow Singletrack Activists,

Happy New Year and we trust you had a relaxing festive season since our last update.

Sadly we have some terrible news.

Mont 24 2011 team of 4 needs 1 more. Interested?

We need a fourth for Mont 24 this year. We plan to go fairly hard but not crazy hard. We're a mixed team who plan to have a pretty good time. Some of us have have done a 24hr before some have not.

Interested? Let me know, Bart.

Rides near Gerroa

I'm off on a holiday next week to Gerroa on the south coast and was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of any trails in the area. I don't want to drive to Kangaroo Valley or Nowra as we'll only have 1 car so am wondering if there is anywhere that wouldn't be too far for my wife to drop me off so I can go play?

Appin

Hi All,

Thinking of doing Appin soon and want some indication of how technical it is. Have read the garb here Rob has very kindly put up, but still unsure if my abilities can cope !

Have ridden Manly Dam numerous times, get off at a few places where my limits force me, so with an intermediate ability, how would I go ?

Cheers, Scott

northern beaches-Sport friendly - Dr/ Xray place??

Hey guys,

....sorry if this has alreayd been covered.

Can anyone recommend a clinic or dr on the northern beaches?

Me = had yet another stack (3 big ones the past 2 months). Sprains etc not doing so well or healing...

I loathe going to drs that simply say "why do such silly sports...etc etc..." and I am really concerned about proper healing for some big events this year.

handy hints and thoughts are appreciated.

thank-you.
Anna

Report from Second round of MTB Discussion paper forum

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Regarding In the news: Second round of MTB Discussion paper forums.... there's a report from the Nowra workshop here...

http://www.rotorburn.com/forums/showthread.php?2...

Have a read. For the authorities it's worth noting the lack of opposition to views in the prior forums (which was predominantly that sustainable mountain bike riding in NSW National Parks would be a good thing) given the turn out of this meeting.

Full suspension commuter rack

Hi all

Couldn't find anything relating to this on the site.

Does anyone know of, or has purchased the pannier racks for a full suspension MTB?
The only one I can find is the topeak one with a max load of 10kg.

I'm after one so I can start commuting to work and carry all my gear, as I have to take a laptop hom every day too, plus gym gear, plus work gear plus cycling gear.

Be nice to be able to chuck some panniers on the bike.

Snake bite..

Hi everyone

As a preamble this does not apply to inner tubes and I realise the season for snakes is fast drawing to a close....

On Friday three of us saw a dead diamond python - such a shame as it was a beauty!

I've seen more snakes this season than ever before (probably cos I'm riding my bike) and have wondered what I would do if I was bitten. So I've gone and bought myself a compression bandage amongst other things.

Can anyone refer me to any "how to" put the bandage on if I was bitten etc?

visit to Canberra/Mt Stromlo

Anyone have advice on which tracks that should not be missed at Mt Stromlo? Any nice combinations of tracks? Or other things to keep in mind?

I've never been riding there before, but will be going to Canberra Sunday and Monday and don't want to waste my time so was hoping for some good advice! Thanks

Where to Mountain bike in North Italy

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I am heading to the north of Italy in september and really looking forward to some riding while I am there.
Has anyone been there and can recommend where is best to go.
I see they have some great mountain bike parks and trails but would love to know which come highly recommended.
Prali, Turin region, Livigno, Trentino ( I hear the mountain bike hotspot for europe). actualluy they all claim that.
Loking for some great downhill runs, chair lift ( would be nice) and some great xc single trails.
Would also be looking at bike hire options too.

Dave_B cracks lower chainstay

* Edited due to some sound advice from another member that I hadn't thought of.

So Dave_B and myself head out for an easy GHS ride today. We were literally just cruising along not pushing at all (as Dave was a bit out of shape hehe). A few little rises off the water bars 2/3rd's of the way to the lookout and Dave manages to crack his lower chainstay, lucky it didn't happen on Bee's Nest or the Shaw's decent. So a nice cruisy Sun ride turned into a 5-6km hike a bike for Dave.
I searched online a bit and it turns out this is quite a common problem with these frames.

Clip On or to not to Clip On

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Whats the go for MTB'ers using clip-on's

I think I would prefer not to have them so i can freely move my feet on the pedals but if there are any advantages to using them i'd consider changing.

So are there any advantages to using clipon's ?

New Wheel Set Required

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi all, I'm looking at getting a new wheel set for my Merida OneTwenty as it uses shimano centre lock hubs and I really don't like my brakes and want to get some Avids and 6 bolt config.

I've been looking on the CRC site but not really sure what I want. I'm hovering around the 90kg mark, I don't do big drops but i do like to tackle rocky stuff so need something strong but not too heavy.

I've spotted the DT SWISS E2200 MTB Wheelset on Torpedo7. What do you think of these? I need QR front and rear

Suspension Question's

Hello everyone, how have we all been??
Just some suspension related questions, ive got a fox f120r front fork, and a fox rp2 on the back and with the front fork i think im due for new seals. One question i have is are you due for new seals when u touch the fork and theres a slight oil residue or is that just normal? And the second and final question is how on earth do u set up the pro-pedal on the rear :S I switch around the settings and there is no difference at all..

Thanks for the help in advance

Manly Dam Distance - 9.65 or 10.1

Have been riding with a Garmin Edge 500 for a couple of months now.

Every time I ride Manly Dam I get a distance of 10.1. The Hot Lap lists a distance of 9.65. What's going on.... Am I riding an extra 500 meters, is my Garmin dodgy, or does the trail data need to be updated?
