Cannondale - gone?
I was looking for details / availability of an aftermarket Lefty fork for my next project (29'er); and noticed that a number of the traditional Cannondale dealers (e.g. Bike Addiction, KOM, Turramurra Cycles etc) have decided to no longer stock C'dale. Some were citing quality issues with the frames (not forks) over the last few years.
Does anyone know more about the fate of C'dale dealers in Sydney; and possibly point me to a reasonably priced supplier for a (warranty covered) Lefty fork that can be modified with a www.Project321.com adapter for a tapered headtube?
Thx in advance.
Bike Weights
I'm only a little guy, struggling to get over 60kgs even with regular weight training.
Thus I feel that light bikes or the weight of bikes is important to me.
It's annoying that manufacturers don't list the weight of their competition bikes. Of course, they claim things such as:
Boutique (non main stream) Mountain Bike Brands
Fellow Nobmobbers,
I would appreciate some feedback on the the bike buying process. This is about understanding how mountain bikers think and what they want.
What is your thought/research process when you decide to buy a new MTB:
1) Do you always go with a mainstream brand in Australia, prefer a boutique brand (smaller manufacturer)?
2) What resources/websites do you tend to look at for reviews?
3) To what extent do you factor in who the distributor is and their reputation for quality service?
100km Events
Hoping for some advice from past 100km event participants....
Unsure of which one to train for. Have just started building fitness now (am reasonably fit but not 100km fit) and looks like there's a few 100km races later on in the year. Have never entered a race but will do a few this year prior - Choc Foot etc etc.
I was originally looking to do the Angry Doctor. Based on past experience has anyone any recommendations....
Husky 100 entries open
Not sure if anyone has posted this but the entries for the Husky race in June are now open. Great singletrack and no major hills so about as much fun as you can have in a 100k race (just don't mention the puddles).
Sram XX chainring bolts?
Hi, just wondering if any of you shop Dudes have a set of Sram XX chain ring bolts (IN STOCK!)
i'd like to build my bike back up but am too impatient to wait for an order to arrive!
For everyone elses info, XX rings bolt directly into a thread on the crank spider and dont come in two peices(front and back) like normal chain ring bolts.

Cowan Track
Hi - does anyone know if Cowan track open to riding?
I did ride it on the weekend to get a full 50k out of 2 x P & L loops. But I was not sure with it being gated off.
Shame if it isn't it has the best view of Apple tree bay!!!
Ps:
Apologies to the Turramurra Cycling rider I nearly cleaned up on return from the Long Trail loop. Had I not had new pads and disc inserted we could of ended up in a nasty mess.

VVC Awaba 10 Hour - March 5
Just a heads up that the Awaba VVC CLassic 10 Hour is on on Saturday 5th march.
Entries are open at http://www.twentysixinches.com/vvc/vvc-enter
What's the VVC 10 hour ??
The info is all at http://www.twentysixinches.com/, but to cut a long story short it's a race with the emphasis on fun. Entire teams can get out and lap together and the sausage sizzle and post ride brew are on us.
Riders are capped at 150 and we would love to see you there.
Fred Caterson Reserve is now authorised riding!
We've spoken a few times about Fred Caterson reserve and don't think have ever got to the bottom of whether the trails in there are authorised riding or not.
Well... thanks to the new Bicycle Information for NSW site (which I have to admit is mostly pretty disappointing - hard to navigate, seems like just a collection of links to maps, hardly any MTB information) just found the The Hills off-road cycleways.
Armidale 12 Hr
Armidale is hosting it's first 12hr Enduro on March 12 on the hugely fun 'Piney' track
Helmet Camera
I am thinking of buying a helmet camera and am looking for some advice. I have no experience of video cameras or helmet cams.
The ContourHD seems to be the pick of the bunch from the reviews I have read but it would be good to hear from people who have actually used a helmet cam.
Brakes
I have recently purchased an Anthem X 29er which I'm stoked with. I am going to change the brakes from Avid Elixr Cr's to XT's as I prefer them. The XT's are currently set up on my other bike with 160mm rotors. (the rotors on the Anthem are the same size) Do I need to swap the rotors or can I just bolt on the XT calipers/levers with original rotors that are currently on the Anthem?
[Montview] Come to April Meeting
Public meeting in April (Date & Time TBA) for any people interested to come a long and comment on the Montview Plan.
This is essentially pumps and jumps and should assist in accelerating other forms of off road cycling. Council plan to run a public meeting to get the public’s feedback about the plan to make sure they are doing what we want.
Montview is a flat sports field located in Hornsby Heights with some degraded land on it's east end.
Awaba tomorrow?
Hi all - anyone with thoughts on how awaba xc track will be for tomorrow? Much rain up there?
Maxxis Larsen TT Lust
After getting a bubble in my rear Kenda Nevegal which came default with my bike, I went out to by a crossmark which I have used previous and liked but the shop dealer talked me into the Larsen. Its a bit late asking now as I have already bought and used it but have you used this tyre? what do you think of it?
XC Tyres for around the NSW area
Hi Guys, I did a search for this and found a result from 2009, has much changed since then?
I've been out of the MTB scene for a couple years and have also crossed to this side of the ditch as well and gone from a "7 front 6" rear travel bike to 120mm all round and the trails are alot different here.
I've ridden Manly dam, Ourimbah and still exploring other places and wondering what tyres are working well.
I currently have Merida Trail Lite 2.25 on board as thats what came on my Merida One-Twenty.
Cheers for any help
Muzz.
Random DH and other pics of mine from NZ
Hope you don't mind a few pics from across the ditch, I haven't been to a DH event or track in OZ yet to update my collection.
Server Move Complete
In case you didn't notice (and I hope you didn't!) we are now up and running from our new virtual home.
We are now on a shiny new virtual server which replaces the last move and should make for a more robust site. Not that I think anyone can complain about the old one, but perhaps a secure data centre with not only battery backup, but generators and redundant Internet links will be even more reliable.
The new infrastructure has been very generously donated by the crew at DCWest... big shout out to them.
Like I said, you shouldn't notice any difference (aside from a likely speed increase as this VPS has more grunt than the old box!), but please let me know ASAP if you do.
Scott scale 20 - don't do it
Just to let people know my experience with Scott bikes; snapped my carbon scale frame at the chainstay yesterday in a completely limp wipeout i.e., steel, ti or aluminium would not have been damadged. Ok it may have been a freak occurance, but given the cost of the frame it's an expensive one. Sadly, the best Scott would offer me was 10% off the R.R.P. which means I could buy another of their sub-standard frames at the mere cost of £1170.
help with fork installation
hi all, was hoping someone could help me with some advice...
Paterson Kona 24
Entries are now open for the Paterson Kona 24, the newest 24-hour XC mountain bike endurance race to hit the calendars.
The boutique event will be held in Paterson NSW on May 21/22 2011, and rider numbers for the inaugural year are capped at 500.
Entries are open to teams, soloists and 6+6 racers, meaning that there will be a racing class to suit all abilities. Participating in the race will cost $100 per rider, and potential riders are encouraged to enter quickly, as with the limited places, the race is expected to sell out.
Clean up Australia Day - Single track on Mona Vale Rd
Hi guys,
I was riding the single track from the Kuringai Nursery up Mona Vale road and it is very littered – which kind of spoils a good bush ride, so I’ve just registered the Site for Clean Up Australia Day – 6th March.
I’m hoping you can join me, and show that Mountain bikers do care.
I am looking for more riders to join the team and the fun as we put our best foot forward to help clean up, fix up and conserve the environment.
