Melnob ?

A new job means a new start in Melbourne. Does anyone know of a nonmob equivalent in sunny Melbourne ? And I am also looking for a decent MTB shop. In the two weeks I have been down there I have seen 1,000's of roadies but not a single MTB Sad Any tips on a Bike Addiction equivalent ? Am going to base myself in the Glen Iris / Malvern area. Any ex-Melbourneites that can shed some light on the XC action down south ? Thanks heaps.

Mont 24 Team Member wanted

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

We have a team of six in The Mont - all of decent fitness, most have raced one way or another, and whilst we may not necessarily win, we are definitely going in it to have a go. Due to unfortunate circumstances one of our team has had to drop out so we are looking for someone keen to join the "Uncredibles". We pretty much have the camping and other gear that we will need and just need a keen human with a bike!

Lost!!! my trusty bike light

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Just preparing my kit for a ride after work tomorrow and noticed my light has vanished, after tearing the house and garage apart i can only assume it has fallen out of my camelback on my last ride Sad

It is a pretty standard looking black cylindrical front bar mount rechargeable led light (cant remember the brand for the life of me) would of been lost Monday of last week somewhere in g'rock... i know its a long shot but if some one has happened to stumble upon it, or does in the future, there is a 6 pack waiting for you Smiling

Northern Beaches Commuters – Warning!

Be aware that the bottom of Parriwi has a potential hazard in heavy rain.

As many know there has been some work done at the bottom of Parriwi. Going up there today in the rain the new guttering/drainage results in the water flooding across the road. This has the effect of making a not insignificant stream across the road with lots of surface water and, I assume, will also strew the usual debris that Parriwi experiences across the road as well.

Just thought folks might like to be aware of the potential hazard – rather than hitting it as you round the corner in the dark this PM!

G'day!

New to the fourm and recently rediscovered mountain biking after a 13 year brake from being a teenager Firstly I must compliment the entire Nobmob community on a very informative and well put-together website, and thank them for their time doing trail updates and such. It has made my transition into the sport and finding the trails that I have ridden around Sydney that much easier! So, thanks! and hope i can contribute something back (sorry with the new taxes on beer, it cant be beer Sticking out tongue )

Link to M7 cycleway?

I'm working with another cyclist at East Ryde for three weeks just off Epping road near Pitwater rd.
we were talking about going for a decent road ride after work and talked about the cycle path alongside the M7 as we always do hills and dont get to spin the legs properley.
is there a link(or a safe way) to get from Epping road to the M7 cycle path that anyone could let me know about??
Cheers,
Gazza

Greetings from a new MTBer

Hows it going, new to mountain biking and just introducing myself. I started up about a yr ago with a Jamis hardtail as away of rehabilating myself after a fractured hip. The addiction wasn't long taking hold and I've recently got myself a new Giant x2 Anthem. Its making the trip around Manly a whole new experience. Now that I'm looking the part all I need is some skill to complete the package. Do most of my riding in Manly or Loftus.

Hope to meet up with some new MTBers and get in some new trails, I see the calendar with advertised meets so hope to catch ye on the trails.

Building a London 2012 venue - in a Dutch forest

An exact replica of one of London 2012's venues has been unveiled in the Netherlands.
The Dutch Olympic Committee has built a copy of the Olympic BMX track - it's part of a campaign to persuade Olympic hopefuls to train in the country in the run-up to the Games.

HMBA XC Race 3 - 27 March ***RESULTS NOW AVAILABLE***

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

We need some help this weekend with timekeeping for the XC Race.

This a a relatively easy job that starts after registration is completed - you don't have to be computer literate or too worried aboout making mistakes. Is there anyone who would otherwise be spectating who could help by writing down the rider numbers as they come through? Boyfriend, girlfriend, parent, spouse??

Any rider who wants to take the day off and earn maximum points in the pointscore can also volunteer.

Please let me know - [email protected] or see me at registration on Sunday morning.

Does anyone have some....

...good cycling stats on number of cyclists in Sydney/Australia etc. I am trying to get some funding from work for cycling kit, better facilities for those of us who commute etc. I am looking for data on both commuter numbers as well as number of cyclists in general (as kit can be worn on weekend rides).

Any help appreciated!!

Unauthorised trail construction can only end badly

Bantry Bay Fence

On my way to the office this morning some young kid tried to follow me through the Cityrail ticket gate. I stopped this person and a few insults were exchanged. The bottom line was they didn't get on that train and I would hope they might think next time before trying to skip a fare.

So you're thinking, "Meh... goodie, goodie - what has this got to do with mountain bike riding?"

It has to do with a sad but true fact of life - the majority of people want to do the right thing, but as the saying goes, "Evil prevails when good men do nothing". That is - if you know something illegal or illicit is going on but idly stand by and let it happen you are just as culpable as those performing these acts of 'evil'. A second side to the message is that those who are tempted to bend and break the rules are more likely to change their ways when confronted by their peers (ie. not a figure of authority).

Which brings me to this: it has come to my attention that in various locations in Sydney certain riders are making themselves busy with illegal trail construction on public land. Let me make this real easy for you to understand:

Illegal and unauthorised trail construction can only end one way: badly!

If you think for one second I'm wrong here read on for an explanation...

Jail time for assault with a car - at last!

Old-ish news, but...

... at least it's a start as the courts realise a car is a deadly weapon, especially when used against less solid road users.

Night ride tonight

Hey all,

A friend of mine and I were planning to do a night ride of Manly Dam (2 laps) tonight, but since the trail is still closed we're looking for other options. Both of us have ridden the Dam a lot, but haven't really been anywhere else.

Anyone interested in joining us for a ride tonight at about 7pm or so, for about 2 hours? Hopefully someone who knows the area reasonably well and can show us around! Anywhere on the Northern Beaches should be fine.

Cheers,
Greg

OK, story goes like this. I was riding to work today at 5:30 am for an early morning meeting. I usually stick to the back streets riding from Allambie Heights to North Sydney but decided to take Military Road as (a) I was running late for my meeting, (b) there was little to no traffic on Military Road at that hour and (c) I happended to be able to tack on to the wheel of someone much fitter than myself. When we approached the traffic lights next to the bus stop near the Oaks, the light turned red and we both stopped.

Mont 24 hour team mate required

We are running a couple of teams at the Mont and our 6 man team is currently in need of one extra. Anyone interested in signing up? The team is of mixed abilities and ages so will take anyone that knows how to ride a bike (preferably without training wheels).
