Convert Front derailleur cabling from bottom pull to top pull

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm thinking of converting my front derailleur from bottom pull to top pull. Well not actually converting the derailleur as that already supports both, but converting the cable routing on my bike.

However there are no cable mounting points on the top of the seat tube to secure the cable.
Is there any way of doing this? Any aftermarket clamps available that would clamp to the seat tube?

I see a lot of dirt under my bottom bracket where the existing cable is routed and believe the top pull would keep the cable out of this dirt. Or am I wasting my time doing this?

Suggestions anyone?

Guys & Gals,
Just want to point out a disturbing increase.

On sunday while riding an up and back on the Oaks, I had a mechanical the meant I was walking the last half of the single track, I punched through onto the Fire trail now what I noticed was an incredible amount of Gel wrappers, I picked up six (6) in about 2 ks.

What frustrates me about this is 1. the laziness and disrespect of someone dropping the wrappers, and 2. who needs to use them over this distance, we regularly ride up & back and find the only this we need is fresh cool water, the average age of our group is 48.

wanted...baby gate

noooooo, nothing like that, it's just that I have moved offices and can take my dogs to work but there are a couple of doors they can wander off to, especially if I am out of the room
Since I know loads of you have children I didn't know if anyone had a childproof gate or two that they no longer wanted...

A sad day for mtb, the loss of OBR

Damn despite a positive report and encouraging recommendations BMCC Councillors last night voted to close down the long established trails along side Old Bathurst Rd, Blaxland.

Standing alone in support was Clr Luccetti.

The construction and continued use of "Candy bar", a poorly constructed and thought out trail at Mt Riverview condemned by senior riders since it's creation, was a contributing factor in this decision and those riders responsible need to take a long hard look at themselves.

I thought this may be of interest to you guys. Of late we have been getting very active with the NPWS up here in actually getting in and maintaining the trail network.

We worked on a very difficult section of trail near the Treatment works known as “Shit Happens” and were working in conjunction with the NPWS, who have done a lot of machine work so far and will continue with this as an ongoing project.

Hot Laps - Suggestion

Do you think it would be a good idea to have a field in the Hot Laps section where the type/model/etc of bike can be indicated?

I'd like to know what hot laps are done on what bikes. I think it would be an interesting comparison.

Freeing Pistons

My rear Pistons seems to get stuck Closed (against the rotor). they go back in once pushed but get stuck closed again when braking. Was thinking about taking the pads out and cleaning behind and trying to spray a bit of lube behind the pads,

Without getting any near the pads as lube doesnt really aid stopping.

Would that be the right way to go about it or are seals or something going to need to be replaced?

GS or SGS?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey Guys,

A few months ago I replaced my rear XT derailleur with a new M770 XT SGS (long cage). When comparing the two it looks like the cage on my new one is longer than my old one.

Looking at the Shimano site I can see that SGS is actually super long cage.

Since getting the new derailleur I have broken two hangers – one because a stick wound its way up through the lower jockey wheel. This lends me to think I need the shorter GS (medium cage) derailleur.

I run a 11-32 cassette and 3 rings up front.

What do you think?

My New Light :D

Home made light that I made. The cost is shown on the Jaycar receipt.

Welding was done by my dad using spare bits of metal we could find. Mild steel is awesome to bend and shape.

The spring comes out of my old broken derailleur.

I haven't tested them yet to see if the one light is enough (300 lumen)

Does anyone have a DT Swiss 240s rear hub?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

If so, what lubricant do you use for the ratchets? DT Swiss say that normal grease is too thick and that you should use their ‘special grease’ which I understand costs more than $60 for a 20g tub (and is not readily available). Are you aware of any alternatives? Some posts on the web suggest that this grease is actually Dow Corning Molykote TP 42 which I have found can be purchased in Australia, however only in 1kg tins. Seems a waste to buy so much as it would last one bike about 1,000 years. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
