Looking for NSW events in next 2 months.

Hi there... new to site/forum. Been riding for approx 3 yrs now (progressed to Giant Trance). Ride stuff like the Rim track at Red Hill, the obligatory Manly Dam, even been down to the Mogo track (tho not for the Angry Doctor).
Currently looking for a good event in NSW to enter (either as single or team) that is occurring in the next 2 months (aware of Dirtworks - also aware sold out).
Be great if anyone has any suggestions.

Cheers.

Looking to join a group for weekend social rides

Hi, I am a keen mountain bike rider, I ride for fun and exercise! I am in the over 50's and under 60's age group and above average fitness. I enjoy the out doors and meeting new people, it is boring riding alone, and would love to meet up for a regular weekend ride. I usually ride around the Terry Hills area but would like to explore other trails!

Cheers for now, Cliff W.

Pain in the Bum

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So for the 1st 38 years of my life I never encountered chaffing. Now that I haven't smoked for 2.5 years I put on 5 kg and sometimes, maybe it's heat or diet or my underwear or I-don't-know, but sometimes (it sure seems to be heat related) I get a bit of what must be 'chaffing' on two very small bits of opposing bum cheek.

I've seen a disturbing photo of Gary applying something to his undercarriage prior to an event. Is that my future? Am I destined to becoming an axle greaser? I'm just under 70 kg. How can my buns-of-steel do this to me?

Any tips?

Awaba or Glenrock

I am heading up the coast this weekend and should be out either Saturday arvo or Sunday morning (hey maybe both which will solve my problem). If you had to choose, Awaba or Glenrock, which one is better.

Anyone interested in joining me that has a preference?

Cheers
Brian

front tyre experiments

I found out first hand at the Mont the difference that tyre selection makes.

First up; while at the pre race brief they were chucking freebies into the crowd, I was tossed a Schwalbe Ralph! It went into the spares box as I already had two new tyres on my bike for the Mont. It was a real top score that turned into a rather fortunate one as well (about 5 hours later) I think someone was trying to tell me something!

Bike cleaning products

Just got back from the Mont and the bike looks like it has been across the Oodnadatta track and back. Cleaning the car will be easy but the bike is up for a full strip and rebuild. At the Mont I saw a lot of people spraying their bikes all over with a pump pack with some type of solution. I was too sore to get off my arse and walk over to them to ask what is was. Does anyone out there know what it may have been or any recommendations that you use

Which Garmin sofftware?

Hey All, I've just taken delivery of a Garmin Edge 705.

Two downloads are mentioned in the manual - Garmin Connect and Garmin Training Centre. The choice seems to be expressed as an either/or - use one but not both.

Is this correct? If so, which is the better choice?

Heading for the Mont - have readable number plates [cops]

Heading to the Mont ....

Our forward scout Bernd reports that the cops are out in force and have pulled over several cars with bikes hanging on the back, covering their plates. Please make sure you are not in for the $ 300 fine. I have a "improvised, but readable plate" until the ordered plates from RTA arrive.

Good luck!

Glory run down McPhails this morning

Just reporting in on a great ride we had today. Took a day off work and headed down to Kangaroo Valley with a couple of mates.

We had an absolutely glorious run down McPhails - it was a perfect day for it. Track was dry and fast, the waterbars were in a "launching" mood, and there wasn't another soul on it, so we had a bit of extra fun in the switchback section by redoing some of the nicer berms a few times.

The climb back up Meryla pass was hard work, but the views, and "Avatar" like landscape helps to compensate.

Some pics to follow.

Rear derailleur mystery - Help please

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Help please.
Last week noticed my rear (LX) derailleur cable hanging way out at right angles and the outer braid was broken. I assumed I had snagged it on something as the cable had been pulled back from the bars and got it replaced. (Which was expensive after the tune et al.)

MTB motard racing

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was fortunate enough to catch wind of a 'test' race being held tonight at St Ives, around H.A.R.T.
Turramurra Cyclery used to hold a Wednesday night crit race round there before the powers that be made them shut it down as it wasn't a sanctioned event!
The clever way around this is to hop on a mountain bike and do half off road and half on road racing(motard)
About 20 people turned up tonight for the 'test' run so we could all get a feel for how it would be and give feedback at the end.
Well! what can i say apart from BLOODY AWESOME!

Please vote for DH in the mountains

Only takes 10 seconds...

At the moment 85% of respondents are in favor of the recent closure of Old Bathurst Road downhill trail at Blaxland in the lower blue mountains.

This decision has set a bad precedent.

Please take the 10 seconds to click no and even up the score for MTB'ers.

Thanks

Danny McAskill filming in Chamonix for "Perfect Moment - Instant"

http://youtu.be/KjAFgN3eQLY

Wow... YouTube really has come on, eh? Chamonix in 1080p (right click and watch there) - just beautiful.

Skied there and just thinking about the place gives me goosebumps. It's da shnitz! Been to other parts of the Alps in summer, but looks like Chamonix should be placed on the list.

And while we're on the subject, saw this the other day too, about free summer lift access in Tignes:

Spin Sat or Sun morning?

It’s only Wednesday but I’m keen to get out this weekend – don’t mind where (I’m new to Sydney and don’t know too many trails) though something technical would be good. I know the Mont is on, but for anyone that isn’t going and fancies a spin Sat or Sun morning post here – thanks Richie
