Scott Genius Issues
I've got a three week old Scott Genius - awsome bike but-
Went out Red Hill yesterday and riding along heard a not so good noise (like snap) stopped to investigate - thinking the worst after reading about some of the issues with Spark frames snapping.
What had happened is the rear shock bolt had come away - at first it looked like it had sheared but on closer inspection this was not the case. This could be really dangerous thinking you have six inches of plush suspension to find as you land you have none!
29er ss
Hi can anyone out there help. I think (know) I need a 29er ss can anyone help with the n+1 without the W-1. Also some info on what ppl's opinion of whether this is a bike that I could ride. Or do I just want something pretty to look at? (This is a question I can answer for myself), and because carbon is out of the question what is the difference between steel and alloy?
Clip ins
Hi all,
Have just bought my first ever pair of clip ins and I have never worn them before at all. Thing is I just rode Manly Dam to test them out and see how they work I dunno if this was a smart or silly thing to do as I had 2 crashes due to being tentative with clip ins in technical sections. Question is should I stay clipped in during the tech sections or unclip to have the freedom to move etc then once complete clip in again ? I am unsure as I said iv never worn them before and I did enjoy the added power by wearing them.
Thanks
Riding companion for DW 50km race
Just wondering if anyone is interested in riding together for the DW 50km race. I have done it the last 2 years, 2008 in 2hrs 48min (held up for 15 minutes by helicopter air lifting rider out) and 2009 in 2hr 28. The time goes quicker and it seems to hurt less when you have some one to chat with along the way

Council to vote on WSN Site (Belrose Tip) future on Tuesday
Update: The outcome of this meeting is discussed here: http://nobmob.com/node/14541
If you have a look at the Warringah Council agenda for next Tuesday[1], astute readers will notice point 8.3...
http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/council_then/doc...
... with it's attachment...
http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/council_then/doc...
This point is titled, "Belrose Waste and Recycling Centre – Draft Future Use Concept Plan" and recommends against MTB use of the tip once landfill operations cease. The recommendations being:
A. That Council provide in principle support to Option 1 – Combined Passive Use (informal recreation), Belrose Landfill site.
B. That further investigation of options, available funding and opportunities for third party involvement in future recreational uses at the Belrose Waste and Recycling Centre be referred to the NSW Government for consideration.
Now - as discussed on the thread with the above graphic, the site was never going to be a large part of the MTB solution, but it could make up a small part of the overall mix of cycling related activities in the area. There is scope for trials, 4X, dirt jumps, perhaps even some short freeride runs.
If you care about riding in the Northern Beaches it would be best to write in to council and ask them to vote for option 3 (dedicated MTB tracks) or a combination of options 1 and 3 (both passive recreation with MTB areas).
It might be worth pointing out a few flaws in the options arguments. Eg:
1. The option doesn't consider 4X, trails, dirt jump or freeride - it mentions "800m" of DH or XC tracks with "2.5 minute ride". Now, the area is small, but it's not that small!
2. If XC trails could be linked with the nearby areas in Garigal National Park they would be beneficial to an overall strategy for the area. Land managers have to stop thinking alone, and work together.
3. The options state number 1 (passive recreation) is, "...least likely to be affected by land fill stability.". Hardly - some might argue a bit of instability would enhance a freeride track for example.
4. The options state that number 3 (MTB trails) would have a high initial and operational cost. How so? Are there not DH, FR, DJ areas at Morgan Road, Red Hill, etc? How much do these cost council? I'm thinking the answer is, "Nothing". How then, would the tip be any different?
5. Local bike riders have always been told that Belrose Tip would be suitable and once rehabilitated form part of the solution. If this option is taken off the table - where else is council (and other local authorities) planning to accommodate the growing demand?
The bottom line is: We should be working towards a cross tenure solution for riding in the Northern Beaches and the Belrose site can be a small part of this.
Please write to council with your comments on this. Here's a handy list of addresses to copy/paste:

Meet Jure Robic, Slovenian hard man
I love this story. Anyone in training for DW should read and learn.

"Robic does not excel on physical talent alone. He is not always the fastest competitor... nor does he possess any towering physiological gift... He wins for the most fundamental of reasons: he refuses to stop."

Leaking caliper?!?!
Hi everyone, ive got a bit of a question.
I was getting really bad performance out of my rear brakes so i decided to change the pads. When doing so i noticed a bit of a residue on the back of the pad (The residue was an outline of the piston) im confused if maybe this is contaminating pads or if its not something worth worrying about, there was zero sign of the residue spreading. so im not really sure if i need to start replacing seals just yet.
Thanks
Pine Creek
I rode Pine Creek recently and thought I would try to fill in some further (limited) trail details. The comments below are subject to what I found and rode – I did not ride all I found. I spent 3.5 hrs riding in what can only be described as a maze of trails. There are so many pieces of single/narrow track it was hard to work out where you were going next. I used a system of placing ‘stick arrows’ at junctions to help me keep track – trust me they were useful and stopped me repeating trails. I only repeated 1 trail – but that was a deliberate choice as I knew where I would end up.
iPhone Developer Wanted
I'm looking for an iPhone developer to build a game for me. Anyone do this or know someone who does. Keen to not go to one of these outsourced shops in India and would rather a recommendation.
No church at Dirtworks
...just a reminder that we DO NOT have access to either the Church OR ANY of its facilities this year.
Hope everyone enjoys the race!

Dirtworks - transport
Morning all, is anyone aware of a shuttle service or similar running out to St Albans on the saturday before Dirtworks? I know it's a long shot but I thought maybe the bloke who runs the Canberra trips may have been considering it. For various reasons I would prefer not to take the car.
Servicing Shocks and Forks
I think my forks and shock need a service. (Fox 36 Float R and Fox DHX 3.0)
How easy/difficult is it to service them?
Are any special tools required?
whats spares (seals, oil, etc) do i need to replace?

Headset
I'm looking for some advice on a new headset if I can please?
My current one has gone very gritty and after pulling it out, cleaning, re-greasing and putting back together is not much better .
I'm thinking I should replace the whole set and not just the bearings so that the seals and races (?) are replaced too. I did notice when I pulled it apart quite a lot of sand sitting above the star nut - I guess this has entered from the underside whilst riding and washing. Is it worthwhile trying to seal off the bottom of the tube?
Tires, rims or rider?
So here's an interesting problem:
Mobile access?
Hey Rob
I prolly spend 70%+ of my NoBMoB access via my iPhone. Problem is though is the site isn't very mobile friendly. Any plan to support mobile access? Is it a simple CSS switch? I don't really know much about Drupal.
Got any mobile browser stats for the site?
Cheers
Phil
EDIT: When I say unfriendly, im mainly refering more to the fixed width nature of the comments form field. Tis a tad on the wide side.
Recycle tyres
Hey Guys
