GPS - Garmin 510, 810 or are there other options
I've been looking around on the web, but haven't really found any recent forums or reviews of GPS devices for mountain biking. So was hoping someone here could chip in with their experience.
Garmin seems to be the place to start. In their range it seems to be either the 510 or the 810 that are the most likely options.
Talking about Garmin, have anyone tried the vivoactive for mountain biking?
Which other options would you consider? If any?

Video: 365 Days of Reign - all the trails I've ridden in my 3rd year on a serious MTB
June signaled the end of my 3rd year on a serious mountain bike - 2012 Giant Reign 1. This is a video of all the trails I rode in the past 12 months - man there were a lot of them.
This was the first time in 4 years I didn't make it to QLD for a ride but instead I made two trips to Victoria (You Yangs and Mt Buller). I went to plenty of places for the first time including a number of locations in the Hunter Valley and ACT plus the obligatory trip to Rotorua.
I hope you enjoy.
Respect for the environment our trails pass through
In case you hadn't seen Please! Stop riding Bantry Bay Engravings Trail: The selfish few threatening new trails... well... a gentle reminder of it's message:
It takes literally years to negotiate authorised access to trails in and around Sydney. When people don't respect the land trails pass by and deviate from them it jeopardises access for all. Both now, and in future projects.
Please respect the areas we have the privilege to be able to ride in and stick to formed, authorised trails only.
Thank you
no on trail status
G'day, I'm wondering about the trail status indication on the front page, is the information about trail status from riders or sourced from the local councils?
Wylde MTB Park Update Please....
Has anybody heard any updates regarding the status of Wylde MTB Park, no updates since 22/6/2015...
Please! Stop riding Bantry Bay Engravings Trail: The selfish few threatening new trails
These pics were sent through to us showing that people are still using the old engravings trail at Bantry Bay and now a new exit down the fence line by the new estate.
If you are riding this or know people riding here please stop. NPWS has gone to a huge effort and spent a large sum of money to give us the mtb community Serrata and Gahnia trails to replace this trail.
No more trail closures!
With all trail closures of late and inaction from some land managers. Tell the government what you would like in mtb resources.
Please Update Trail Status if you Ride on Saturday
I am looking to head out to Old Mans Valley, then St Ives singletrack, duckholes and Centre, Cascades, Possum and Manly Dam on SUNDAY morning so looking to get an idea if that is daft and I should stick to the road bike.
Awaba
Has anybody been here this week would like to ride tomorrow but don't know if its flooded?
Nearmap help
Does anyone have access to Neapmap?
I need to look at how a track has changed between 2002-2010-2012-2015?
Bantry Bay ride-able 27/06?
We had a decent amount of rain on the coast yesterday and into the night but with a full day of sunshine today will Bantry Bay be ride-able tomorrow? What do you guys think?
Magura brake issue
Can anybody suggest how to fix Magura mt6 brakes when the pistons (and pads) do not move sufficiently to engage the rotor? When depressing the lever the pads move inward a normal distance but on release the pads simply return to their original position. No leaks are evident. Thanks

NPWS Map of Bantry Bay Trails with Planned Closures
Looking at the Garigal National Park website it states that closures are planned for unauthorised tracks and notes 2 tracks being (1) Natural Bridge track to Davidson Park and (2) Seaforth Oval to Natural Bridge track. See http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park...
Convict 68 Recon Ride advice
Any advice on a good ride to sample as much of the route before hand would be appreciated, especially now the event is in reverse.

Help needed for first bike purchase...
Ok help needed total newb to modern mountain bikes and looking for something to fit my situation. I am looking for a bike to mostly ride with family while camping, ride locally on the streets a little and some trail riding when away with the boys.
In my sights I am thinking a hardtail for better value as I am not really wanting to invest to heavily, however not prepared to skimp and not get something that is practical and suits my needs, use and ability. I am thinking around the 1200-1700 AUD mark to get a descent hardtail for my use.
Chicken Run & Headless Hut Destruction
Well, it seems that BMCC without ANY consultation whatsoever has moved in a heavy excavator and chainsaws to flatten Chicken Run & Headless Hut.
Seems to be a new low that absolutely no consultation was entered into before rolling in the diggers...
shoe pedal combo for enduro
looking for advice on a shoe pedal combo for endure riding. At the moment I'm using a shimano xc shoe with xt race pedals as this is whats on my hard tail for xc racing i also fitted these same pedals to my fun/enduro bike a 2015 giant trance advanced 0
I find this combo fine for all the riding i have done so far up until we road at golden grove .It was almost impossible to re clip after unclipping to get round the tight steep corners .Flats and some 510s would defiantly have been the go.
Need assistance regarding wheels/hubs
I am currently looking at buying a new set of wheels. Specifically a set of DTSwiss XR 1501 Spline One wheels (http://www.dtswiss.com/Wheels/MTB-Wheels/XR-1501...). My bike currently uses standard QR skewers/hubs front and rear. The dt Swiss wheels say that they include 5/100mm end caps on both front and rear wheels, but the rear hub is setup as 12x142. Will these end caps included with the rear wheel convert it from 12x142 to 135QR?
Transporting 6 mountain bikes
I'm organizing a trip with 5 others, from Sydney to Canberra for a few days of mountain biking.
The rough plan is to hire an 8 seater and travel together, but the challenge is how do we carry the six bikes. On a previous trip in NZ, we were able to hire a trailer that had bike racks, but I haven't been able to find something similar in Sydney. I can beg/borrow/steal 6 Thule bike racks, but would still need to find a trailer with Thule racks to fit them to.
Snakes still about.
Surprised by a 1.2m black snake enjoying the sun today next to the bike path in Harrington Park - never seen one active in June but I suspect it was soaking up the sun like me.
I have not been thinking about snakes for a few months but it does remind you they are always active just less so in the colder months.
Watched it for about 15 minutes as it moved about - they are interesting to watch but they still scare the %$#^*! out of me when I first see them.
Exercise bike or Spin bike
I'm looking to buy something to train on when its wet. Exercise bike or spin bike or something else I don't really know what would be best. I'm doing cross country races and would like to get fit. Please help.
What Kit for Winter Riding the Thredbo Valley Trail?
Considering we are in an El Nino and the snow forecast looks less than hopeful for a decent ski season, I was considering taking my bike down to the Thredbo with me in a months time. I'm booked in and cannot cancel.
I contacted Thredbo directly to ask if the Thredbo Valley Trail will be open for riding though winter and, somewhat to my surpise, it is.
Suitable spot for FTP test in Sydney
G'Day Folks,
Not totally MTB, but related in a way. Seeking ideas for a suitable stretch of road in Sydney for FTP testing.
I have tried Centennial Park and Kurnell in the past however Ive been held up in the past at both and both also have slight downhill sections that made it really hard to keep the power high for a continued effort.
Can anyone think of stretch of road lasting over 20mins, either dead flat or slight steady uphill, no lights, no stops and no downhill bits?.
PS - Im inner west but happy travel 50-100km to find a good spot.
Many thanks for any ideas.
Cheers,
