New rider

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Marc and I am fairly new to this sport and looking for others to join in with on future rides.

Although new to this style of riding I am fairly comfortable on a bike and reasonably fit so I shouldn't slow you down too much!

Let me know if you are interested in taking on a newbie.
Am happy to travel as well

Cheers. Marc

Bike Insurance Claim Times - Experiences Please

Hi Folks,

My bike was stolen and I have a claim in with No Worries Insurance. I submitted the claim (with all required documents, police report etc) 2.5 weeks ago and they still have not got back to me. I have been calling every couple of days for the past week, and they keep saying they are waiting to hear back from the underwriters.

Am I being impatient or unreasonable?

What have others experienced through companies like Velosure or others?

Thanks
Ian

Advice on Single Speed frame wanted

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi Team,

I'm posting this on behalf of a mate who's asked me to help him find a good SS frame. He's a serious rider who's unfortunately been bitten hard by the SS bug for many years. He's been riding Specialized Stumpjumper Single Speed which was pretty good for him but he's recently snapped the frame so needs a replacement.

Save Mona DH Access! Submissions close Aug 28th

Hi all

We need urgent help making a submission for the Mona Vale Road widening. Emails need to be sent no later than Aug 28th COB.

There is a real risk of losing shuttle access.

Please ask RMS to work with riders to allow a drop of bay as agreed in 2013. This is to manage road safety so Council can formalise the track.

OMV - any way to link to Quarry rd Dural via Pogson's trig?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I had my first taste of OMV yesterday morning and loved it. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if it is possible to ride / hike a bike between Pogson's trig and down to the fishponds and then back up to OMV?

Reason I ask is that I'm coming from the hills and as I can't do Quarry rd after 9AM, then if there was a way I could do Pogson then I wouldn't have to drive all the way to OMV.

Dirt Night - Mountain bike meet and greet and swap meet with great prizes - community meet up

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

We had over 60 people turn up for the third Dirt Night, our monthly MTB meet and greet night held in conjunction with Forestville Ferrets Rugby. We had speakers from Avanti Hellfire and Trail care with both St. Ives Cyclery and Avanti+ Narrabeen chipping in with prizes and free basic bike services. Specialized also kicked in prizes and in the end we handed out two major and 2 minor prizes.

The clubhouse was full of bike and buzzing with riders talking all things MTB. We had some great video up from Specialized on the projector and snag sandwiches and snacks catered by the rugby club.

Glass on trail

Top section of fairly popular (yet unofficial) trail on Northern Beaches has deliberate scatterings of glass in numerous places. Walkers have placed branches across track in the past.

Tubeless (is awesome)

Having been a massive tubeless sceptic I finnally converted the rear after after a few recent pinch flats (drops onto rocky landings). I've got to say, how awesome. Over the general XC stuff there was no big difference but the bump compliance over rock gardens felt ace, with noticeable improved grip and control. Give it a go if you haven't already!

Trek fuel stolen

Some low life today has stolen my 2014 trek fuel 9.7 in 17.5 size.

What's unique about this bike is the wheels I just built for it, wtb kom i25s with black tune King Kong hubs. Has a conti x king on the front and a race King on the back, specialized phenom saddle and black esi grips. Blue Garmin 510 as well and shimano xt xc pedals.

I'm devastated

If you see or here anything can you please let me know.

It's and older photo with the old wheel set

Relief for AU retail & LBS's in particular?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi everyone,

*disclaimer
I work for an online retailer registered in AU but not in the cycling industry*

you might all be kind of interested in this.
http://www.news.com.au/finance/money/treasury-fl...

Its about giving AU retail a level playing field.

Our friend Joe wants to reduce the tax threshold for overseas online purchases. I read somewhere that, or someone on this forum once told me that, retail here in AU employs about 40% of the AU workforce.
So there is plenty of votes for Joe & Tony in this.

Wheels: Stans Arch Ex rims. D240 hubs. DT Comp spokes.
Post: Truvativ Noir carbon
Saddle: Selle Italia SLR x-cross flow
Bar: Easton Haven carbon

Groupset: XT M8000
Tyres: Front, Ardent Race. Rear, Ikon.

More of a rant to let off some steam than anything else, but I thought that someone else might benefit if it helps them make a better purchasing decision when they're looking for a trainer. Grab a coffee and read on if you dare.

Hidden Valley Classic - Coolah NSW

Hi All

Here are details of the Coolah, Hidden Valley Classic that a number of us are heading over to do it next month. Check out their facebook page to get an idea of what you will be in for: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Coolah-Bikeworx/3...

It’s a typical real country event and good fun. You can camp onsite or book a cabin at the Coolah Caravan park and head to the top pub for dinner.

Riding in Canberra

Mondraker Australia was down at capital city for the last two weekends supporting Rocky Trail racing, during that time I managed to get out and do some riding.

I would highly recommend doing a trip down there and riding Majura Pines and Stromlo, there are so many trails of various levels to choose from and they are lots of fun to ride.

We stayed at Alivio tourist park which have quite a selection of cabins and villas to choose from as well as some trails right close by.

So if you have a weekend free I would suggest taking the trip down.

Adjust fox fork spring rate

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've had success cutting down the spacer size in a fox float shock, resulting in more air volume and a more linear feel. Can the same be done for fox forks. I have fox float 34s, 160mm travel? I'm wanting to do the adjustments myself (ie not sending them away). Thanks

Update - found this so all sorted:
clip-on Volume Spacers
Changing volume spacers in the 34 FLOAT fork is an easy internal adjustment that allows you to change the amount of mid stroke and bottom out resistance.

Replacing headset

My headset (i.e the bearings in the steering tube) needs replacing. Is this a job requiring special tools like a press etc or is it a DIY job?

The frame is a Trek Superfly FS 2014 model.

Secondly if it can be done as a DIY job, how do I know what bearing dimensions to get? In the past I tried to be clever and bought online for another bike just find out it did not fit and will try to avoid that mistake again.

Any advise most welcome.

Cheers!

Trail Videos of the Kowalski Brothers new trails in East Kowen - Romper Room and Stairway to Heaven

I spent the past week riding the Kowen Forest, both East Kowen and Sparrow Hill. Here are trail videos of 2 of the new trails expected to be in the Kowalski Classic

Romper Room - Steep, tight, technical, rocky

http://youtu.be/IO2WrtUBH8s

Stairway to Heaven - Long, steep, steep and tricky switchbacks, a TRUCK LOAD of steps some quite big. Some switchbacks with steps in them. This is going to be pandemonium in a race situation Smiling
