night rides in Northern Sydney (Hornsby area)

Hi all,
Looking to do some night rides this winter.
Got a sick new light want to make use of.
Anyone know of some good trails near Hornsby ?
(Apparently not cool to do night rides at old mans valley)
Any body else keen or know of some organized rides in Northern Sydney area?
Anyone heading out regular and wouldn't mind a tag along?
Are the regular Terry Hills rides still still happening?
Cheers Dan

Rear shock play...?

Hoping someone can enlighten me a little. So I've been riding a lot more of late, but I generally look after the bike (cleaning) well. Use the spray to help get dirt out of suspension seals etc. When washing the bike over the weekend, lifted it by the seat to swing the rear around and heard a knock. Have since isolated the sound to the rear shock. Seems to be some 'lateral' play in it. It's an FSR arrangement. Checked the bolts - none loose. Is the seal stuffed?

Any hints or tips, much appreciated.

Best trails when short of time ..

Hi,

Let me start by introducing myself, I am Jan from The Netherlands. I will visit Australia for a very short time this July. I will stay in the Hyams Beach area.

I would love play around in the area (either MTB or trail running) but due to my limited time, I would appreciate if you could give me some tips. I looked at the detailed map of the area and Jerrawangala national park (with Tianjara Falls ) look really nice. Bur perhaps you know some places which are more spectacular or simply beautiful?

Thanks a lot,
Jan

Team mate wanted for Chocfoot 7hr, Wingello 28th June

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm looking for a third team member for Chocfoot race at Wingello in a couple of weeks in the male 3s 7 hour class.

My brother is over from NZ and will be the other team mate. He mainly does enduro racing but I think he goes alright in XC too.

Looking to do OK position wise but it's more a fun entry and doing a team of 3 so there's always someone to talk to and have a laugh with on the off laps.

Kind Shock dropperpost service tops

A BIG thanks to Allan of Pushie Enterprises in Sydney for breathing new life into my battered old Kindshock Lev dropperpost.
At just 1 hours notice, the post was serviced and worn parts replaced on the spot for a very modest amount.
Hopefully it will quietly endure another 3 years of abuse!.
The best dropper post on the market and great backup service. Recommended.

Ourimbah latest status?

Does anyone have an up to date status on Ourimbah XC tracks to share. Latest status report on this site is from the 8th of June and there has been some rain around since and just wanting to check if the tracks will be in good condition over the weekend.

Many Thanks!

Hornsby Council Vote for Stringybark Ridge Wednesday night

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm sorry that I won't be able to attend due to having an exam tomorrow and needing to maintain my sanity, but the Hornsby Council meeitng will be on tonight so anyone who can get themselves along I'm sure will be appreciated. Personally, I cannot believe the idiocy of some of these (so-called) "green" campaigners who somehow think that we're going to destroy the bush, deal drugs, make horrible amounts of noise by having tracks built in Stringybark Ridge (Is that what happened at OMV?). Apparently some dickhead has even recently gone around putting letterbox drops warning locals of this.

Winter commuting jacket

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey all,
I've been searching for a decent winter commuting jacket and I'm struggling to find something suitable.
I currently have a pretty expensive goretex hiking jacket that is great at stopping the wind but I get really hot and sweaty wearing it riding. Even with just a jersey underneath I get to work sweating like nothing else - even last week where my Garmin recorded -3.
I carry a stupidly big backpack with all my work gear in it but it is a Deuter one with the mesh stuff on a metal frame that gives some ventilation.

Rockshox reverb warranty?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi all, just wondering if anyone out there has had any experiences getting a Rockshox Reverb repaired under warranty? I've had mine for less then 12mths and it has developed a 10mm drop/play in the post when under weight and also wont hold the 250psi. I purchased it from Merlin cycles and am hoping I don't have to send it back to the UK. Thanks.

LOST-Garmin 510-Manly Dam

LOST-Garmin edge 510. I was doing a dam lap, and opened my bag and forgot to close it. My Garmin has fallen out somewhere between the creek gap and the bottom of the descent where the start of the new work is being done. Please keep an eye out for it. There's a 6 pack for anyone who finds it

SRAm nightmare

I'm had a stack today and not only did I gave my rear wheel a buckle I managed somehow to misplace the trigger part of my SRAm X1 trigger.
I have tried Uncle Google on how to re assemble but cannot find anything to get the spring and the other bits back in place.
Looking at getting the whole thing replaced looks costly and don't mind taking it to my LBS but they probably will charge me for a new one.
Any assistance on this would be great one as I have already pulled a good part of my lovely locks just trying to put the spring back in.

Chain slippage of lower jockey wheel

Hi all

Wondering if anyone can help out a mechanically inept mtbr, I have recently been having a few issues with my chain slipping and partially slipping of my lower jockey wheel i think that the rear derailleur or jockey wheel has taken a hit and the spacing between the chain and the guide that holds the jockey wheel in place seems to have just enough gap for the chain to keep slipping. Is there a temporary fix for this or a way to close the gap enough to prevent further slippage?? Any advice is appreciated.
Cheers

Manly Dam track work - Please stay off the unfinished upgrades

Rode the dam Wednesday. Tracks in pretty good shape. Coming down the path detour where the track work is being done and met the people working on the trail. They asked if all riders could stay off the unfinished ungrade. They reckon it takes hours everyday to repair the new sections that people are riding on because they arent finished yet. They said heaps of people are riding it, even when they're working on it. Its clearly marked, but I suppose some people just can't help themselves.

Where to go this weeked

Hi,
Have ridden Wingello before and am going to be down in the area again this weekend. Was thinking of maybe trying another spot, or is Wingello the best place to go to get some km under the belt. Not looking for anything too technical.
The other benefit on Wingello is I'll be with the wife and kids who'll also be riding. They can do there own riding whilst I am off. Are the other places like this too?

Any advice appreciated.

North Haven/Bonny Hills

I've been riding the trails in and around North Haven and Bonny Hills this week and I'd just like to say thanks to all the local trails builders for their efforts, there are some really good trails about the place.

Also a plus one for the Laurieton Specialized store, they have helped me out a couple of times now and the service has been first rate.

So in the last week ive ridden coondoo(south nowra)Tilba to mystery bay,Tathra,East Jindy, cracken back and yesterday (sunday)Majura pines. The trails at majura are sensational,a real mix of flowing, fast and plenty of little kickers and berms and techy bits to keep everyone happy. The downhill tracks,Larry and Rocklobster are a blast, both ridable at most levels(my missus did a bloody quick run down rock lobster on a 100mm full susser and was grinning like an idiot at the bottom)-the faster you go,the hairier they get.Ive got to say we are pretty bloody lucky with the choices we have, and its only

Jealous sigh.....

While Canberra builds another 15km of awesome flow trails, Warringah Council still fail to properly manage 10km of Manly Dam or support Bare Creek.

I think it's time to run a pro mountain bike candidate against a few local councilors.

My first Convict 100

I am going to ride the C100 for the first time this August. I was glad that it got moved as I was not available for May.

So the important questions that I am hoping that someone will be able to help me on.

1. I am reasonably fit for a 50+ year old ... Ride twice a week for 50k plus each time and don't mind the hills.
Q - Do I need to train more that this for the 100?

2. I have ridden roads bikes for the past 10 years but recently - 12 months ago - bought a MTB and love it as a change up from the road bike.
