3 Ring Circus

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So there 74 days until the 3 Ring Circus which will be Race #2 for CC.

Race/event 1 was a 4hr at Ourimbah last year just 3 weeks after getting a MTB and needless to say the single track scared the living Sh1t out of me.

After a year on the MTB I definitely feel more comfortable on it, but just what's in store at the 3 Ring? lap 1 says "fire road", and the other say a combination. Then there is "the wall" - any comments on how steep and how long?

I like the idea of it not being a multi lap event so the need to get passed and the related stress wont be there.

National Marathon Champs

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Its always soooo badly advertised when compared to the 'big' events like Convict or The Fling, but I thought those that didnt already know would be interested to learn that this weekend is the National Marathon Champs in Derby, Tasmania, on the brand spanking new trails out there (which are already being talked about as the best in Australia).

As you would expect, lots of big names, and strong legs will on the start-line, and I have no doubt it will be a massively hard race.

Garmin 705 firmware

Does anyone have any older firmware for a Garmin 705 GPS? I've had nothing but issues with the latest two releases, and Gamin have removed the older versions from their website.

I'm looking for version 3.1

Cheers

EDIT: All good, I've managed to find it elsewhere.

Manly Daily Story on Moon Rock

Mountain bikers damage Aboriginal carvings and bushland at Oxford Falls

My first reaction is to blow up at the stupidity of the people who have built these jumps and ramps on Moon Rock, however I wanted to ask if anyone knows if these structures are actually at Moon Rock or have they taken photos from around the area?

Rotorua accomodation

Anyone recommend somewhere to stay for about eight blokes near the trails, for early next year?
Cheers.

Awaba Track open again?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi guys
I was planning to head over to Awaba for a ride on Sunday, however I'm not sure if the track has been re-open or not.

Any feedback would be much appreciated since I come from Dungog and don't want to arrive and find it to be closed.

Regards

Wolf

The weekly recurring question

I'll post the weekly recurring question this week.

Anywhere dry enough in the Sydney vicinity to get some dirt on my rubber this weekend?

Any up to date local track status report will be most welcomed.

Cheers,

convert 29er to 27.5?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

im just after peoples thoughts of converting a 29er in to a 27.5? would it work or would the 29er frame be to big for the 27.5 rims? and would it look stupid?

i just dont want to spend the money on a new bike.

Pike customised to shorter travel

Has anyone tried this or have thoughts on whether it's worthwhile? I'm not talking volume reducer tokens that just change the spring curve, but an actual change in travel length.

I'm riding a 120 revelation RL at the mo and it doesn't have enough chutzpah for my kind of Sydney riding. Opinions welcome

Welby or Wingello?

Hey there; has anybody ridden lately or happen to know the condition of the trails at either Welby or Wingello? Thinking of hitting them up on Sunday.

Cheers!

anywhere rideable up the coast atm

Anyone up the Coast able to comment on weather any of the trails up there would be rideable by the weekend?? I.e Ourimbah,Glenrock,Awaba. I turned up to Ourimbah two weeks ago to find trees down across nearly the entire track, devastated! It's got to be one of the best xc course's close to Sydney but it looked like it was going to need a fair bit of tlc to get up and running again.

Shimano M8000 XT 1x11

Shimano have just done a media day and the first reviews are starting to come out. Hopefully the release date of August is wrong as I'd love to put this on my new bike build.

Going by the prices in this article and converting to A$ the full groupset excluding wheels, FD and front shifter comes to $1472.

Yet to visit Awaba and keen to know if it is more like Mt Stromlo in Canberra or Kowen Forest just out of Canberra - Thanks in advance for any members able to give me the tip.

New to Sydney

Hi, just arrived in Sydney and looking for trails to ride and hopefully meet some people to ride with!

Currently in Manly but Ive got a van so can travel.

I know the weathers pants at the mo so theres not a great deal of riding to be had but Im always up for joining in inspecting/clearing trails or just going for a pedal along the cycle paths!

Im here on holiday so any day of the week works for me!
