Knee/shin guards
I've been very disgruntled over the past week after I scraped my knee on a very silly fall. Later on, a passing rider saw the damage, pointed to my knee/shin pads wrapped aound my camelback, and said "good thing you brought *those* along, eh!"
... the sad truth is, the pads were *ON* when i fell...

The rainfall maps show VERY little rain at the dam over the last week which does not seem intuitiely correct? Has anyone ridden yesterday or today?? If so, how was it??
Critical Mass in Budapest
If you were bored in the commute home (ie. not riding your bike) you might have read about this in MX. Thought I'd Google it and find some pics to share so here you go:

Canberra Mob.
I'm moving to Canberra in a month or so and will be looking for riding buddies.
If anyone here is based there or goes there often and wants to ride the good stuff there, PM me or reply here and I'd love to hook up pretty regularly.
I'll post rides here too for day/weekend trippers from Old Sydney Town.
Cheers! Mr Rohloff....

Fashion and dance: universal languages. (OT - but may assist in picking your Jersey / T-Shirt colours)
You don't have to understand what they are saying - one thing is clear - these are the "in colours" for Autumn '09
Plus ...it goes to show that (german) white men can dance!
Enjoy
Manly Dam Maintenence
Just a heads up... spoke to one of the rangers at Manly Dam just now and he says they will be posting out details of some trail days in the next month or so.
The track needs a lot of work so here's hoping!

Brake pad wear
Hi
I'm seeking advice on brake pad wear if I can please as I seem to be wearing through brake pads very quickly! In fact I have just gone through both front and rear pads over 5 rides and about 70km. Most of the riding has been XC style - tracks such as Terrey Hills, Cascades, and one lap of Manly Dam.
Prior to this I went through rear pads and 75% front over 12 rides and about 130km.
Post Mont Crash
Someone was talking about a crash on the way home from the Mont. Here's some evidence why it's a bit silly to do 24 hour races and drive home tired. Always take a spare driver (or more than one) and stop if you're tired!

Ouch!
7000lm light anyone?
This is rather amusing... it's an 100W LED which is actually a grid of 1W LEDs. These are designed for street lighting, but... meh... this guy put one on his bike:
There's loads of gumf on this here:
http://tesladownunder.com/LEDs.htm#100%20W%20LED
For amusement, here's the thing compared with the dude's car headlights on main beam (100W each he says), note the LED on the right is many times brighter:
DIY Shoe Shields
The shoe shields protecting my Northwave Carbon shoes are almost worn out so figure it's time for some new ones. You know - shoe shields - protection plates that sit between the cleat and shoe to stop crank bros eggbeater pedals damaging the sole of your fancy carbon shoes.
Anyhow - I have some thin aluminum lying around and wondered how easy it might be to make some though.
A quick Google found someone else has had the same idea:

Anyone considering buying from CRC

Diamondback Rider's
Ok, who here ride's a Diamondback? Cause frankly, i just spent $700 on the Axis Disc. And yeah it's pretty good, it ride's the Manly Dam and Oxford Fall's trails pretty damn well. No it does not have knuckle box (damn), it's got front rst and carbon ceramic disc brakes. 24 speed Shimano gears. Truvativ x-flow crankset, the bottom bracket is pretty average. The seat's nice, the frames alloy. The quick release is handy, as it won't fit in my car any other way. So yeah, please post if you have a Diamondback, or for that matter if you are hopinh or planning to buy one.
