Oaks on Sunday Morning

I am thinking about posting a Sunday morning ride. I have not been riding much over the last 3 weeks so I am not looking to break any records.

I am thinking about doing a nice cold run down the Oaks, but catching the train to Woodford, not riding up it. I have not done this ride for a while.

If not may people are interested in that ride we can maybe do a Yarramundi or Menai ride. Lets get something happening this weekend.

Northern Sydney Bike Shops?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So... for some trail advocacy work I was trying to find out how many people are directly employed (either full or part time) in the cycle industry in the area. Am gonna call up the following shops and ask.

Can anyone see any I've missed?

Don't forget, these are Northern Beaches only, I know there are loads more in Sydney:

Belrose Bicycles 9452 5105 65 Prince Charles Rd Frenchs Forest NSW 2086
Bike Addiction 9938 3511 380 Pittwater Rd North Manly NSW 2100
Bikebug Pty Ltd 9954 5599 120 Pacific Hwy North Sydney NSW 2060

US shipping facility available

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

If anyone is wanting to purchase items from the US, I have a facility setup with MyUS in Florida.

You can use this to buy any items that require a local address. This includes eBay and shops.

Any number of shipments from multiple sources can be consolidated and sent to Australia as one package.

It's only cost effective for larger items - minimum shipping cost is about US$50, but a complete frame is only $120 ish.

New mum Looking to get back on her bike!

I rode with this crew a few times before I was prego. Now the bubbs is here and I'm dying to get back on the bike. Since he's bit young to join me yet, I was wondering if there were ant like minded women who would like to get together and take turns riding and watching the kiddos. Any suggestions of a group that may already be out there or if anyone knows anyone who may be interested? I know there are not heaps of women mtn bikers in these parts but I thought I'd ask.

Regards,
Maria

Imports over $1,000

If you import a bike and it costs $2,200 including shipping, do you pay duty on the full $2,200, or just the extra $1,200?

Also, does anyone know what the duty percentage is?

Aussie Champs? (Oi, Oi, Oi!)

Hey,

Does anyone have a brief list of Aussie champs (and podiums and other notable achievements) in world class MTB events?

Or anyone out there bored and feel like compiling one? Just interested in events on the world stage right now (think Sam Hill's achievements).

Cheers!

Is it me, or are helmet cams a waste of money?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Maybe I'm just old and own a Rohloff Speedhub, but I was thinking of buying a helmet cam recently then realised this might not be such a good idea for the following reasons..

There's a lot of Youtube stuff shot by people with helmet cams. Well, how pointless. Either:

the riders are moving quickly which makes the camera jiggle all over the place and it looks like the cam has been gaffa taped to Skippy's ears, or

Roadies: check your lights!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Almost hit a couple of brothers (cyclists) while driving home at dusk yesterday. One wasn't wearing a light and the other had some bees dick useless light. Sure, i'm glad there wasn't an incident, but i see riders with no lights or a lot with really tiny lights all the time and it's frustrating. It's unfair to drivers. It would be hard to blame a driver that hit a rider in such circumstances. Please, if you ride on road at night, look at your lights from a decent distance some time and see if they are actually effective (big and bright).

Shimano & Crank Bros Cleats.

Does anybody know if Crank Bros pedals will work with Shimano SPD cleats? I've just purchased some mallets and am wondering if I will have to use their cleats provided or if the Shimano ones already on my shoes are compatible with them?

NB I haven't bothered to actually try yet Smiling

Cheers,

Andy.

Sram 991 Hollow pin Vs Shimato XTR/Durace CN770: which is more durable?

I have always used Sram 991 Hollow Pin chains, but recently found out a new chain less than 500km use is now needing replacement.

Each Sram 991 Hollow Pin is about $60+, T7 has Shimano XTR chain for $40 - i am willing to give it ago

Anyone can give some advice about durability on the XTR chain?

Thanks.

Tien.

Lake Parramatta

I ride this area regulary. Not sure on its legality but I do know that in the last three years of riding through lake parramatta i have ridden past the odd ranger who hasn't said a thing other than hello.
Its a fairly popular venue and the council one would assume is well aware that the reserve is used for mountain biking and has been for a long time.
I also know that other trails that i ride in the area that come under Parramatta council are Ok to ride.

Ay Up delivery...

Hi Guys

When you guys have ordered lights from Ay Up, how long does it usually take? I ordered a set a week ago and hoped they would be here by now. I've tried emailing and phoning to ask if they can tell me when to expect them but no reply so far. It's all probably ok but I'm just concerned in case there has been some delivery problem.

Any thoughts ?

More tracks and some stats

In case anyone was wondering what all those tracks were I posted on the weekend it's just more of the same as before.

As we get more and more trails actually mapped properly we're in danger of having some useful information here Eye-wink For example, have created a page to list statistics on each area here:

http://nobmob.com/node/9127

Think it's also time to share a link to the auto-magically generated Master KML file, which can be found here:

http://nobmob.com/rides/kml

This shows the trails that are entered 'properly' on the site (so is a subset of the old version right now), but will work on that over the next few days. Will go update the maps page about this when am done too. Phew!

Enjoy! Smiling
