Getting the best from an indoor trainer?
I've just started to work out on a trainer in the garage. Broke my wrist end of November and could be off the bike until March / April. I;ve set my self a goal though of coming out of the injury fitter than when I went in... as the alternative is sitting on the couch drinking beer and that's not going to be helpful.
I've also just fitted a cadence and speed sensor and am planning to use the Strava workout guides and Sufferfest videos as a start.
fork upgrade
where's the best place to look for some decent (tho 2nd hand) rockshox or fox forks for specialized rockhopper?
any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

menai free ride trails
hi, i use to ride at meani quite a lot, but havent been on my bike regularly for the past two years. i heard there were some trail closures, but is the free ride section behind the sporting fields still open for riding? i went there this week and it appears to be an abandoned area... i did see some signage near the waste management site stating the afp were patrolling and the section was closed... is the free ride spot included in this???
Lost red Garmin Edge 500 on new Ghania track near Manly Dam. Lost on Mon 29-Dec-14
Would love to get this back please if you find it!
What's it worth?
Hi all,
So I have this stripped down Giant Trance 2 (29") frame that I'm considering just selling and buying a whole kit from scratch. I know I should probably pop this into the classified section - but I wanted an idea of what to charge before I listed it there...
I bought the bike brand new 6 months ago for $2K and stripped all the stock parts off for XTR. But now I've built a second bike - which will be my daily commuter to Perth city (work) and back and have put my XTR on that bike.
Friday 9th Jan All day ride
On Friday the 9th I have an all day pass to go riding.
Does anyone have any suggests for a 75km+ loop within about an hour and a half drive from the city? Also, if anyone wants to join me, I'd be more than happy of the company.
Hey Honey, I'm just doing some work in the yard
Happy Holidays - Bantry Bay Gahnia Track is now open!
Just in time for the holiday break another amazing win for local riders. Bantry Bay Gahnia track is now open.
Aimed at experienced riders this trail runs in a one way North to South direction from the Bluff Track entrance. See Gahnia Trail Map.
NPWS explains, "...the first 50 m of this track has been designed to test if your bike handling skill is at the level needed for tracks rated ‘more difficult’. If you find you are not yet competent at all the challenges in this section, then do not proceed any further along the track. It is permitted to go back up the track to the start from this section only. Do not cut through the bush to exit the track.
Thanks to Mario for the pictures (more after the break) - this stuff looks great.
Get out there!

Affiliate Deals for 23 December
While we encourage everyone to support local bike shops, and in particular our local sponsors, Bike Addiction and Bicycles Online... it's understandable people shop around for deals.

Help - shudder front end
I haven't ridden my bike for about 3 months. Took it out for a spin around the block and noticed a horrible vibration or shuddering on the front end of the bike. Looking down around the bottom end of the fork and brake caliper area, I can see it vibrating quite a lot on braking. Thought it was a loose wheel so tighten it up but didn't fix. when I walk the bike with the front brake on, i dont't feel anything. caliper feel fairly tight. almost feels like something is loose. there was nothing wrong with the bike when i stopped riding before.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Gahnia - Bantry Bay ready to ride Christmas Eve
National Parks have delivered a nice present to all of us.
Gahnia can be ridden from tomorrow from 9am.
Please take extreme care in the rock chute entry as this feature and much of the trail are more advanced than Serrata.
There will be more signage and additional rocks in the new year to help with flow. Please take care and check things out before committing.
It should only be ridden in the north to south direction ending at the Seaforth end.
Manly dam
Just wanted to say thanks to the 3 gents that donated their tube to my brother and the use of their track pump.
We had literally 10 minutes before hand donated our stuff to another rider before succumbing to a similar fate of a torn sidewall.
Mtb karma lives on.
So if it happens to be someone on this forum, get in touch, and we'll kindly reimburse you (with a 6 pack as interest)
Thanks again from the brightly coloured Cannondale boys
Red Hill Fire Trail Gates
First it was a great technical downhill (from the rock carvings)
next some heavy earthmoving equipment turned it into a fun downhill with air opportunities (I dont dispute the necessity of safe and ready access of the RFS to fight fires)
Then the effective use of tax payer funds to bugger up everyones fun with a gate that would stop a Sherman Tank in the middle nowhere. (At the start of the climb to the rock carvings/turn off to top of Cromer)
Go figure!

Time, bandwidth and history
I've compiled a bunch of my old (and newer) vids in to one spot as a bit of an ode to old times.
Back when mountain bikes rode rough, ungroomed, unshaped trails. Night riding back before HID and LED technology turned night to day. Back when helmet cams needed to be plugged into a big arse recorder housed in your back pack. Back when home editting software was crap. Back whne 26" ruled 29" was for roadies and 650b was for weirdos. Back when things were fun right through to now when they are even funner.
All hail the mountain bike

OMV Bike Festival Wrap-up
From Campbell King, president of SNORC.
Thought I'd share to show others what a difference the support each person gives whether it be by volunteering, participating and just general encouragement:
"Hi xxxxxxxx
Well the inaugural Old Man's Valley Bike Festival was a screaming success. Check out the snorc Facebook page for more pics or snorc.org.au for the results.
NPWS Warning for Bantry Bay
NPWS have erected a sign on the entrance to the Bluff fire trail advising to keep clear of this area this morning. they are flying in (weather permitting) the final bridge for the Eastern trail a.k.a. Ghana track.
I think its ok to continue to ride Serrata
