Distractions for the family at Ourimbah?

This looks like fun...

http://youtu.be/U8MMRWtbmDY

... not as much fun as riding your bike mind Eye-wink

Anyhow - it could be an option to keep family/friends entertain while riding?

For those heading to NZ: Cadrona lifts open to bikes in December

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I just noticed this in the news. If you're planning a trip to UnZud over the holidays maybe it's worth a look?

They do say there will be some XC trails but I'd imagine it's mainly gravity orientated.

The ‘Cardrona Bike Park’ will open for 10 days in total, from Dec 27th – 31st and from January 3rd – 7th. The Whitestar Chairlift will operate daily from 10am-4pm offering lift accessed trails for Downhill mountain biking enthusiasts.

Looks a little nippy Eye-wink

Headtube extender wanted

I'm looking for an AU supplier of a 20mm headtube extender like this one:

http://www.eighthinch.com/29-eighthinch-headtube...

Anyone know where I can get one? Shipping from Eightinch is $45 !!??

Need a 20mm lift to make up for a rigid fork conversion (turning my old hardtail into my road bike)

Any help would be much appreciated.

New Strava "Fitness and Freshness" graph

I know most people on here use Strava and many of them are premium users.

For those that are, have you seen the new Fitness and Freshness graphs under the training tab? If so, what do you make of them - useful training aid or a load of old cobblers?

It seems to me that only the longer rides have much effect. I try and do at least 1 hour long interval session a week round Centennial Park but they have very little effect on the graph but definitely improve my fitness/strength.

Bantry Bay - stop riders pissing off NPWS

If anyone knows who is riding Bantry Bay at the moment, particularly the Wakehurst Parkway side please get them to stop.

NPWS are seriously unhappy. Not all structures are in and people are riding on sensitive stuff that explicitly required bridges in environmental assessment.

Lots of riders showing up on Strava at the moment. Let's not encourage the government to start using Strava for enforcement.

35C+ and humid. Too hot to ride? Maybe not. Maybe there's an upside...

Came across this reference to heat training in a Cycling Tips webisode today. I thought "WTF?"

So I did a little digging.

http://www.bicycling.com/training-nutrition/trai...

http://www.synergyfitness.com.au/userfiles/files...

Apparently it's used in AFL, and not just for getting ready for playing in hot conditions.

This weekend (15/16 Nov) is NPWS Fee Free in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park

I'm not sure if this applies to other NSW parks, but while out riding this morning noticed that this weekend (15/16 Nov) is NPWS Fee Free in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

The toll booths are closed and there's a sign up stating no fees for entry this weekend.

If you enter the park on a bike this doesn't make any difference of course Eye-wink

... however, beginners who baulk at the entry fee (come on though!) and for whom the ride up to somewhere like Bairne Track, Towlers Bay, etc. is a little far could take this as a chance to try out those locations.

Bairne Track is great for beginners for example. Towlers Bay maybe a little less so (just be careful on the way down and aware of the killer climb out).

Or use this as an excuse to take your non-cycling buddies out to some of the places we all love and enjoy.

Webscorer reviews?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I'm thinking our club (CWORBC) should get webscorer (http://www.webscorer.com/) and buy an android tablet to use it on.

Has anyone used it? On which device(s)?

We'd be mainly using it for multi lap time limited events (ie. most laps wins).

I think Lithgow use it? Do you have any problems with it?

MTBA - Do they have it backward?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Just a bunch of random thoughts. Sorry for the length or if it comes across ranty.

Would MTBA be better off focussing on the entry level and maintenance of numbers, rather than discussing the fiscal and governmental side of funding?

I just read the most recent newsletter: http://www.mtba.asn.au/news/2269-mtba-members-ne...

Travel Insurance

Having to help the guy who busted his collarbone at OMV last weekend has spooked me a little with the thought "what if that happened to me" while overseas in Rotorua.

So I'm wondering what you guys who are more experienced with mtbing overseas have done to cover this risk, and who you've found to be good.

Save Sparrow Hill

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Copied from rotorburn.

Those who raced the MONT and Kowalski Classic or have visited Sparrow know how good these trail networks are.
Please show your support.

http://www.rotorburn.com/forums/showthread.php?2...

"Dear fellow mountain bike nuts and Sparrow Hill fans.
The good news is always that your back tyre hasn’t gone flat overnight after your last ride.
The bad news is that time is nearly up for Sparrow.
We’ve always dreaded the thought that one day the harvesting machines will thunder into Kowen Forest and clear-fell our trees.

The Masters of NoBMoB

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

To save highjacking the general 2015 Mont thread, I'll start a new one.

I was a late callup for this year's event and had an absolute blast. The trails at Kowen are quite simply brilliant and the general vibe of the event is first rate.

And it seems to me that there are a lot of blokes on this site that fall on the .. let's say... more mature side of MTB - that is over bloody 40!

So I'm making a general callout to the over 40s amongst us that want to be in a team of 6 for the 2015 event.

Brand new Garmin 510 issues

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi,
I bought a new Garmin 510 yesterday for the Fling. Charged it fully and used it for the race today for the first time.
After about 4hrs it went blank and I thought it might have run out of battery being the first charge and all that.
When I got it home I realised it's beeping every 5seconds and I've put it back on charge, pressed all buttons in different sequences and nothings happening. It's still blank and it's still beeping.
Anyone heard of this before and know what to do before I take it back to the shop tomorrow?

BMX track at Seaforth in the early 1980's

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

When i was a lad. I arrived in Manly Manly as a 12 year old. Aussies had surf boards, skateboards, & BMX bikes. My old Country had none of it. except I'd heard of skateboards. Ceratilnly never heard of BMX until I came to AUS.
I arrived here in 1978 I recon by late 1979 or early 1980 I as right into BMXing. I was a BMX head. Big time.

There used to be a BMX track in Seaforth. Near wehere now there is the pump track behind the comunity center right next to the tennis courts.
In fact...I can see the pump track from my balcony right now.Its called The Grove.

Rider down Old Man's Valley

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

There was an older rider who went down heavily today on the last set of rollers at the end of the original blue loop at OMV - Turkey Royale?

It seems like he came through with a fair bit of speed, got some unexpected air and cased the landing into the face of one of the rollers and went OTB. Broken collarbone, suspected fractures around the shoulder blade at the back, and possible lower back injury.

Just wanted to say I hope your lower back is fine, your collarbone and shoulder aren't too bad and that you heal up fast.

MD extended loop direction?

Hi all,
Just wondering if there is a house view on the correct direction of the Manly Dam extended loop single trail. I was out this morning heading north and a came across 5 or 6 riders coming towards me. It's pretty tight so not much time to avoid each other.
Is there an agreed direction?
Thanks,

Best Mountain Bike
