Wellington DH track

This track is actually on private property and the downhill boys have put in a few decent gap jumps

Spectacular scenery and some decent drops if you run wide.

Congrats Jason English: Solo 24 World Champ for the 5th time!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Racing often takes a bit of a back seat here. We're a community site, mainly here to have fun, but recognition of some sporting feats in the world of MTB really have to be congratulated.

Over the weekend Jason English became the Solo 24 Hour World Champion... for the 5th time! For much of the race Jason was out front but victory was sealed a couple of hours from the end when he put in a two blistering laps, destroying all hope of a catch the second place rider may have been holding onto. Boom!

Special mention to Brett Bellchambers too, for taking out the SS category.

There are many new recreational riders online here, so for those that don't know, this event works as so: Midday on Saturday one steps onto a MTB. They ride round a circuit (this year in Fort William, Scotland) until midday Sunday. Non-stop. Solo. The rider to finish the most laps in the shortest time before that Sunday cut-off wins. Yes - 24 hours without a break - Insane! Eye-wink

Jason English does it again...

Is it me, or did English crossing the line with 25 minutes left to race mean it's impossible for him to be caught? The man's a machine!

* P2 would have to ride a 42 minute lap to be able to go out and even attempt to catch. Simply not going to happen.

Hey guys so I'm in the midst of one of my most ambitious projects to date - replacing all the picot bearings on my 2008 Giant Reign. So I've got it apart as shown in the photo EXCEPT! for the middle linkage thing. The thru-bolt is out, so the piece is loose but I can't get it away from the frame! I've been pretty gentle so far because I don't want to wreck anything, but is there any trick to getting this away from the frame? Basically it seems I need to flex it open and get it around the frame, but easier said than done! Thanks for advice from anyone who's been here...

Mont24 2014, team of 6 need rider

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Due to one of our guys being all grown up and responsible and putting his career ahead of fun times, we are 1 short of a full team of 6.

To qualify for selection you must* be:

A) quicker than me, and
B) willing to be at transition ready to go when the incoming rider comes in, and
C) have lights, and
D) be up for pancakes and bacon any time of day or night, and
E) up for a good weekend.

At the moment we're in masters but happy to change to whatever. We're not gender biased so more than happy to go mixed, too, if you're that way gendered.

2014 Mont 24hr - Rider wanted for 4x team

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi there, hope you don't mind a Mexican dropping by. Hawkeye suggested I drop a post here (and can hopefully vouch for me, though we also haven't met IRL - so really I could be anyone Shocked Eye-wink ).

We're seeking a rider to replace someone who's had to pull out; the team is from another forum and haven't ridden together, but basically aiming to give it a shake without being in serious contention if that makes sense... so no pressure to lap the field. We're looking to recoup the entry fee for the guy who's pulled out, but I'll have to dig through old emails to find out how much that was...

Back burning in the cascades 5th October

There was a monster of a plume of smoke coming out of the Cascades and then an article in the SMH. Has anyone ridden there this morning? Are all the trails open?

Should I clean old latex out of tyres

i have a continental non-UST tyre go mavic xm819 rims that refuses to hold air for more than a day.
The tyre has been on there a long time.

Should I remove some of the old sealant out of the tyre and replace it with fresh sealant or just keep topping it up?

Crank Brothers Egg Beater 4 broken :(

Hey folks

I have the super duper Egg Beater gold pedals but after 5 years one of them has the egg beater come off the spindle and I can't work out how it attaches.

Any suggestions for how to fix - or suggestions as to a bike shop that would have some expertise to get it fixed?

Any experience with these as buying a new set is a big investment?
thanks!

Advice on 3x9 to 1x9 conversion

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Need some advice on a budget 3x9 to 1x9 conversion.
Due to a new frame (warranty replacement) on my old bike, my old BB and Deore 9sp crank triple won’t fit.
Rather than buy a new 9sp triple crank, I want to convert it to a 1x9 with a 30t ring, using the existing 9sp Shimano XT rear mech and cassette.
Therefore I need to buy:

  • New 104 BCD crank that is capable of running a single 30t 10sp chainring
  • 30t 10sp narrow wide chainring

Duty on a bike

Has anyone here ever bought a bike from overseas, and if so what sort of costs are incurred when it arrives?I thought you might pay 10% on it which would still make it reasonable, just wondering if there are any hidden extras, cheers

NZ South Island knowledge

Hi guys, I'm lucky enough to be spending Christmas nr Queenstown this year, the missus and I are going to take the XC bikes over and I know there are a plethora of single track rides and circuits there, but I have been instructed to find a scenic ride, my partners fairly fit so I would think something along the the lines of the Anderson and oaks with views? This ride could also be in Wanaka or maybe Arrowtown, any recommendations would be a great help.
Thanks
Dan
