Manly Dam This Weekend - Open?

Hey guys,

how likely is it from your experience that they will close the Dam this weekend due to all the rain/storms happening? Just trying to figure out if I need to look for alternatives to ride.

Thanks!

Cheers

Convict 100 2015 to be run in reverse

I think it was rumoured last year but it's now official.

Still my 1 and only 100km race... It left me a little bit scarred. I decided that the 50km races were more my style...

I'm sure the regular 100km Convict riders will have a bit to say about the reverse route???

Can anyone recommend a Sydney based skills session/trainer for a beginner to intermediate level rider? Hoping to sort something out for a Christmas present.

Take care with roof mounted bike carriers

We've all done it... forgotten the bike is on the roof and driven into a carpark, garage, etc.

This is probably the worst picture I've seen of such an occasion though. Ouch!

Heard this morning that City Bike Depot has made the call to close its doors.

More info here. There will be a sale tomorrow.

Quite sad about this as Hugh ran a good operation.

Riding around Launceston?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

We are thinking about going down to Tassie and staying the the vicinity of Launceston for a few days as I've heard there's some fantastic bike tracks in Tasmania, particularly near Launceston.

Has anyone been on holiday to Tasmania with the bike and do they have any suggestions on where to stay/where to go, etc?

Hi guys thought this might be of interest.
I shot it on our second lap.
There's a cross fade in the middle where I edited out me not riding the big roll offs.

New WADA Prohibited List 2015

Clicking thru one of the links in today's MTBA newsletter i found that the 2015 banned substances list has been uodated.

Interestingly, and contrary to my earlier belief, pseudoephedrine (aka cold tablets) had not been on the list. However that changes for next year.

From 1 January athletes must cease use of it at least 24 hours prior to competition.

Lots of other "interesting" products come onto the list next year as well... a bit of an eye opener.

Bantry Bay Serrata Track is Now Open. Stick to the Forestville side only please!

Great news for local riders! The new Serrata Track at Bantry Bay can now be ridden... on the Forestville side only please!

All trail work is complete and signage installed.

Please stay out of Gahnia on the Wakehurst Parkway side which is still under construction with more raised platform to be installed to get over highly sensitive sites.

Both tracks are due for ribbon cutting ceremony early next year by key government officials whom have supported this.

Huge thanks to everyone who made this happen. This track represents many years of lobbying and hard work by a lot of people.

LBS - good customer service still exists

XT master cylinder / lever failed (piston jammed on) on my Rumblefish not long into a ride on Sunday which locked the rear brakes on. I had to release the banjo fitting to get mobile and without rear brakes the 435m decent from Brokers Nose (Illawarra Escarpment) to Bulli was "mildly interesting" but that is another story.

St Ives trails - Time for One-Way?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I’m sure many of us have had some close calls on the St Ives single track and often though it’s bound to happen one day! Well on Sunday it happened to me . Thankfully no collision or injury, but it will cost me some $$$$$.

I don’t find the sniggle between the nursery and the show grounds an issue because speeds are quite low and with all the trees felled, visibility is pretty good. However, between the show grounds and the fork in the road for Muppets and Epiphany it’s a bit of a different story.

Manly Dam, Dangerous trail fairies

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So last week I went for a ride at the dam,

All was going swell until the final section of the downhill single track.
I was coming in pretty hot on the sandy right hand corner (before dropping into the twisty dutch ladders) when I was caught off guard by 7 fist size rocks that were placed across the corner, at right angles, cutting it in half.
