Trance 2 - gold!
Having started mountain bike riding only 3 years ago, I have really enjoyed the fitness and recreational aspects of riding the trails. I started with a second hand 2008 Specialized Expert Stump jumper which I rode for a few years and I learnt the basics of riding, it was a great bike to start on. After talking to a few blokes I bump into at the dam, I was convinced to upgrade to something more up to date. After much research and discussion, I decided on the Giant Trance 2 27.5, I must say, its a magnificent bike.
Kiwarrak in the wet?
I may have a chance to get up to kiwarrak in the next few days but it looks like there may be a bit of rain around
What's the trail surface like, does it handle a little moisture or best to avoid if the rain eventuates?
More signs needed on Gahnia and Serrata
I think there needs to be a few more signs put up on these tracks , Gahnia needs one at the exit telling people that is oneway and also a MTB track and the Serrata needs the same at the intersection of the walking track halve way down.
Saw some old digger walking up the track the other day and turned around and there is absolutely no signs saying not to walk it. He may have escaped the retirement village .
Exit Points for Knapsack reserve
G'day all,
Just a quick one i was wondering if anyone could tell me where the Knapsack reserve trail exits? Ive recently returned home from the mines in WA and am keen to get back into some DH again. Also where it exits is it feasable to park utes down there for doing shuttle runs??
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i havent ridden the area for a few years now and really wanna brush the cobwebs off the rig!!!
Cheers guys!!
Gahnia article is up on Flow
Nice description for those who haven't had a chance to ride it yet - http://flowmountainbike.com/post-all/new-trail-g...
How much travel do I need?
Hi all,
Looking for advice on a FS bike for Manly Dam and surrounds. No need for brands, etc as I know it's a passionate and personal thing. What I am keen to hear is how much travel is required.
Garmin Premium HR strap errors.
I have a Garmin 500 with a premium heart rate monitor strap. It sat for about a month and half towards the end of last year without use and so far this year I have errors with my HR every ride. I am getting lots of drop outs, lengthy periods where my HR only varies by one or two BPM even though I go from cruising to puffing like the 3801 climbing out of Lithgow and it tends to be registering lower that would I would expect given my lack of riding over the last couple of months.
Which is more technical between Gahnia and Serrata
Having ridden Gahnia recently on the 2nd (after a big new years eve and day seemed my sense of balance left me)
Found Gahnia to be a excellent trail but very technical which tested my courage.
For those who have ridden both new trails in Gahnia and Serrata which in their opinion is the more technical trail?

garmin 510 live tracking or app alternatives
I'm after either upgrading my edge 500 to an edge 510 or putting an app on my phone that will allow live tracking.
This is mainly so if I do come to any strife either on the road or dirt, I can let the wife (or 000) know where I am.
What are peoples opinions of either option? Does having the phone constantly connected to the 510 kill the battery or is it no worse than having a tracking app running?
What tracking apps do people recommend or cheap places to buy a 510 from.
Cheers,
Pete

Lost Camelback at Manly Dam 2nd Jan
Hey guys and gals.
I left my camelback on one of the timber beams outside the Manly water plant on King St (Manly Dam) last Friday night 2nd Jan after a ride at approx. 6.45pm. It's dark blue and had some tools, pump and a personal item of sentimental value. I am happy to pay a reward for it's return.
Thanks.
Found - Hand pump at OMV
Let know what brand it is and I'll post it to you.

Anyone ridden to the top of Thredbo?
I'm in Thredbo at the moment and keep looking at the lazy buggers getting the chairlifts to the top.
Anyone know of a way to ride up there?
I've looked at Google earth and maps and there seems to be a few access/maintenance trails around but are they too steep or not rideable?
Anyone been stupid enough to ride up there?
Bike discounts - can anyone explain why?
Over the last six months I have used the bikeexchange site to check on bike prices.
What I have noticed is the LBS in Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia will usually be offering the bike at a price below the RRP.
In Sydney, it's almost guaranteed that the bike will only be available at the RRP.
Can anyone offer a reasonable explanation why this is?
Woah Mamma
I know this is a MTB forum but check this miraculous escape. One thing is the rider didn't get killed but the guy behind must have reflexes of a cat to avoid disaster. Happened near Byron Bay - Action starts 34 secs in for those in a hurry.

FOUND - Garmin in Wisemans Ferry area.
Hey all,
I found a Garmin in the Wisemans Ferry area on a social ride today.
If it's yours, PM me a few details (what model, what track you rode etc.) and I'll send it to you.
I'm guessing it was only bought new in early December and only has very minimal rides on it.
Cheers,
Ian
Lost wallet on Gahnia - 31/12/14 @ 12.30 pm
Lost my billfold/wallet on New Years Eve whilst trying the Gahnia trail for the 1st time. I have to assume it popped out of my camelback whilst I was less than vertical
I have cancelled the credit cards but would love to get all the membership cards etc. back.
Has anyone ridden Gahnia without clipping out - technical skills, not speed
Just want to know how many of you have ridden Gahnia without clipping out, touching the ground, stopping & leaning on a tree..... you get the picture.
I've ridden twice & had 3 or 4 per ride. Combination of walking down a steep rock + loss of balance & clipping out.
I'd be surprised if more than 50% of riders could get through with a 'clean lap', regardless of time.
Not wanting to downgrade anyones skills....just curious.
Cheers
