29er wheelbags

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I have a set of race wheels that I would like to keep in a bag/or bags while sitting at home and in the car on riding weekends.
My dream (and looking around it seems it is just that) is to keep the tires mounted (not flat, but certainly not at 60Psi), rotors on, so all that needs doing is to change the cassette,,pump them up and ride off into the sunset. There doesn't need to be 100mm of padding as I look after them, but I don't want a bag with no padding.

Has anyone found any?

Lane Cove singletrack ?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about single track in the lane cove area? I heard there was a bit up near the M2, close to the tunnel that leads under the M2.
I just heard it from a friend, but upon a bit of research there doesnt seem to be much single track out there (legal single track that is).

If anyone knows about any, feel free to tell me! Smiling

Highland Fling Training Weekend (28/29th Sept)

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi everyone.
Firstly - I thought about putting this in the 'non-race paid event', but then could get the venue details up, nor the fact that it lasted for 2 days. If I'm wrong and need to move it I shall - apologies.

The Highland Fling is coming, and people are starting to think about training and preparation. I have noticed a fair few messages coming to me recently about coaching, and although I am flattered, I just don't have any time at the moment to take on more athletes than I currently have.

Is 2.1" front tyre too narrow

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I normally run a 2.35 ignitor (tubed) on the front but changing to UST after a very sad pinch flat last night.

I can get a cheap new LUST Ignitor for $30. However it's only 2.1 and I've read these are possibly thinner than stated. So is this going to be grippy and robust enough around the KC and the jumps on Loco, Lancaster etc?

Lost AYUP battery at Loftus

I lost an AYUP battery somewhere between Loftus and Heathcote last night. Please let me know if you find it. Probably on the trail halfway down one of those fantastic, eroded, rocky sections. Last night was the first time that I've ridden there in months. It's so bombed out! The rain and erosion have done wonders. Heaps of fun. Smiling

Folks,

Out here looking to buy a bike and the topic of brakes came up.

Question: How popular are tektro draco brakes? and can I get them serviced and get pads in Perth?

Opinions?

Thanks

suspension travel query

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

hi all, after many years on an hardtail, ive finally upgraded to a dually. during my first ride i got a little overconfident and scratched the new bike (shock horror) and myself, but all in the name of funn. however im having trouble setting sag. using a ruler im setting at around 12mm in the rear shock - less than the recommended range but yet still seam to use almost all of the travel, this is on a mostly benign firetrail. or is this normal.

Suspension Travel Requirements

Hi All,

It may sound like a silly question but I wouldn't mind hearing some peoples feedback, without coping a mouthful Sticking out tongue

I am in the process of looking for a second bike, longer travel for more AM riding. I currently rise a Epic 29er. But the query I have is in deciding what amount of travel I would ACTUALLY need. To paint the picture a little for you all I ride a Med frame and am also in the process of losing some weight with the aim to get myself 80 - 83 Kgs kitted in riding gear, height is ~5'9.

Manly Dam-One Way Trail?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So I have been riding Manly Dam regularly for about a year now, and have always believed it was a one way trail. I was out riding on Saturday arvo when I encountered two riders riding up the hill as I was descending (quickly I might add), when I rounded a corner and had to slam on my brakes to avoid a collision. I told them they were riding the wrong way, continued riding, but later on as I was finishing my lap, I encountered them again still going the wrong way.

I suppose what I'm asking is:
1. Am I wrong in saying Manly Dam is one way?
2. Is this common?

Anyone free for a ride Wednesday?

I'm off work this week and have a full day leave pass on Wednesday.

I was thinking of doing the Wisemans ferry loop and wondered if anyone fancied joining me?

Alternatively, if anyone is doing a similar length ride somewhere else and wants a bit of company, let me know.

Bikes outsell cars for 10th year running

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

From my BikeSA membership newsletter:

Bike Sales have outstripped car sales for the tenth year in a row....

Over 1.4 million bikes were imported into Australia in the last financial year. Adult bikes in particular are seeing significant growth. In a campaign week when $200m federal money is promised to the car industry, comparatively little is being invested in cycling infrastructure.

Is it time for bikes to get more money?

Black Snake

So I was taking one of my regular rides down the Cascades yesterday afternoon and at the bottom of one of the short steep descents a 1 metre black snake was crossing the trail ahead of me. I saw him early and had plenty of time to ease up and let him go about his business. But I was wondering how common are snakes on the Beaches? Does anyone here avoid riding solo on weekdays for this reason? It kind of freaked me out.

very interested in this bike, chasing comments positive and negative, mostly regarding the fox suspension, particularly the shock, climbing , descending and general feel, on paper this bike is very close to 2013 reign geometry, cheers in advance

Injuries

A conversation between my daughter and I whilst riding to school this morning;

"Ugh, dad my back's sore!"
"Why?"
"Well yesterday I was standing on that bar between the seat and the handlebars and my brakes locked up and I came down and the seat hit me in the back" ;*(
"Wow! I've tumbled down mountainsides, shoulder-barged trees, flipped over handlebars and smacked my head into low branches but I've NEVER hurt myself like THAT before!"
"hmmm, it's a new one."
