Mount Annan Botanic Garden update for 27 Feb

Status:
Green/Open

Rode it today for the first time. Some big cracks opening up in the exposed clay soil areas (enough to affect line choice in a couple of areas), but otherwise very dry but good. Seemed like there hadn't been much recent traffic initially, but with quite a few riders going around this morning, it was starting to scuff up in a few corners. Needs a good shower of rain.

Pretty good track overall. Seems hard to get a rhythm going on the first lap as it's a bit choppy / bumpy compared to a lot of other tracks. You've got to love switchbacks to really enjoy it. Not a big fan of a lot of the rock armouring. However, a bit of flow seems to come with practice.

First night lap of the dam

Date:
27 Feb 11

Not my fastest time but it's my first night lap so I thought I'd record it for future reference.

It's a little over a minute over a fast day lap and I think that was all in the downhills where I was definately a little more sedate (top speed was 2-3 km down on a day lap). It felt, but may be deceiving, that I was faster over the technical rolloffs because you can't see as well to be nervous. If I get time I'll do a detailed comparison between night and day but I suspect I won't be arsed

Joined the 29er movement. It's great, rolls like they say 29ers do, and really carves corners!

I thought long and hard about 29ers, and this one has a few really nice details.
- It has a 70 degree head angle, which is complemented by the new geometry of 2010/2011 forks - more rake, so they turn faster without having to go for crazy steep head angles.
- Really tight chain stays, it even has a direct mount front derailleur, so it doesn't get in the way of the tyre, and allows super compact rear end

Tour de Lane Cove Valley

When:
Sunday, 6 March, 2011 - 07:00

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Lane Cove National Park
Meeting Point:

First carpark on your right after you enter Pennant Hills Park

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

This is a 35-40km ride that covers the full length of the upper Lane Cove Valley, from Pennant Hills to West Pymble. By linking up trails with a few short road sections I've come up with a 3-hour ride with very little backtracking. Mostly firetrail with a bit of singletrack. Not too technical, but a lot of short steep climbs (some very steep!). Some very rocky trails and loose/ sketchy descents - this is not a beginners ride. If you love hills, join me!

Pennant Hills Park is a 2-minute ride from Pennant Hills train station.

hot and hot

Date:
22 Jan 11

Really hot and I had to look at Wayne's sweaty bum the whole way too, and he wouldn't stop chatting so I couldn't catch a breath. This might be a bit cheeky as I stopped for an undrink along the lap which isn't recorded.

Wingello State Forest update for 27 Feb

Status:
Green/Open

The graders have been through and smoothed over a few fire trail sections so its quite loose on some of the faster fire trails. Should be interesting for the race in a few weeks.

Terrey Hills update for 27 Feb

Status:
Green/Open

Rode Perimeter and Long today - a couple of the usually wet creek crossings were dry!

A few spots of rain dampened the sandy spots nicely. Trail felt fast.

The pinch climb up near the very end of Long Trail is quite loose and broken up - looks like the fire trucks may have been through there recently.
