A "Social Ride" in the Victorian Alps

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

With all the flooding in the lead-up to this event I was skeptical about getting to the start line. When a storm dumped 100+ ml of rain on Wednesday evening before the event the organisers sent out an email Thursday morning saying they would check the course and make a call the next afternoon.

Slowly but surely improving

Date:
13 Dec 10

My second timed run on the new hardtail. Most of it was pretty smooth and fast with just a couple of flumox's where I just couldn't get my stuff together. The damn is in great nick at the moment, certainly no water problems, although a few of the more technical sections seem to be getting more rutted out and deeper.

Manly Dam update for 12 Dec

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Green/Open

Dry and very rideable today. Some wet areas still, but mainly in rocky spots and not in any areas prone to damage.

Some spots are quite loose with enough covering of sand over the rocks to make some of the technical spots a little skatey.

The last rock roll-off onto the clay pan at the bottom of 19th Hole is getting deeper - would be a good idea to loft the front wheel off the rock if you can so that you don't dig the front end in.

Appin update for 11 Dec

Area:
Appin
Status:
Green/Open

Few muddy sections on some of the more technical roll offs so watch your landing - nearly went over the bars once. Otherwise it's in very good condition.

On the final section, the backburning has opened up a lot of scrub and you can see the twists and turns. I actually like it as you can carry more speed knowing what's coming. All in all, a thumbs up.
