Convict 100 - Womerah doesn't get any easier!!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

This being the first endurance mtb race I entered in Australia back in 2009 I will always come back and enjoy the challenge that it presents. Last year was the first time I managed to ride under 5 hours (4:51) and this year I set myself a target of wanting to finish in the 4:30-4:40 range. Although I've not followed any structured training since mid 2012 I have ridden a lot of base kms and in the last few weeks I upped the intensity to try and build some endurance as the Womerah Range is always a battle for me as fatigue takes hold.

Convict 100

This was my 4th time doing the Convict/Dirtworks and so far managed to better my times each year. This year my goal was to break the 5 hour barrier which I thought was going to be touch and go given I did 5:14 last year and didn't think I had it in me to shave off another quarter of an hour. In my favour was my new 29er Epic. But to counter this were back problems and some loss of training and skin due to a recent conflict with a car where I lost.

Questions on wheel upgrade

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm looking to upgrade my wheels. Had anyone tried running different width front and rear wheels? I thought of trying Stan's flow on the front ( internal width 25mm) and the Arch on the rear (internal width 21mm). The reasoning is that the wider front wheel would suit bigger tires, Ardent 2.25 or Hans Dampf 2.35. I plan on running a tire around 2 or 2.1 on the rear, hence a narrower width would be ok. The Arch is also lighter which is a plus. So anyone tried this? Otherwise I might just go with the Arch front and rear. Would the width of the Arch be ok with wide tires?

What!! No beer means better times???

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I raced out to StAlbans after work, registered and settled into the bunk accommodation that someone offered up at a property at the bottom of shepherds gully.

No beer and early to bed means that I got into St Albans early but stuffed around so then got to the line a little late, so I couldn't get into the first group.. Gotta love self seeding starts Sad So I started in the second group.

Giant Contact Switch seatpost

Seatpost shat itself recently - took it apart and discovered the internal gas cartridge (made by a company called I.H. Tech) is at fault. Anyone know where I can source a replacement cartridge? Local Giant dealer no help.
Cheers, Nic.

North Turramurra update for 05 May

Status:
Green/Open

Another great morning for a ride. The underrated nth turra - wahroonga trails are in good condition, a few small puddles along the way in low lying areas, though the single trail was fine.

Stopped by at Jubes MTB park for a look at Synergy trails latest project, it's all roped off to allow the soil to compact and cure but it looks a vast improvement on the previous surface.

Do you have more information?

If you've ridden here lately please add a more recent report. This will be useful even if the condition is the same as updates expire after 30 days.

Big Hill Bites Back

After a couple of years of going backwards with my fitness I pulled my finger out and started training in January with Convict 100 as my yardstick on progress. I've even stopped drinking wine mid-week which is a huge sacrifice. Last year I did about 5:52 and set my target as 5:15 this year.
