Eva's Track (Manly Dam)

What is the history behind Eva's Track being banned for cyclists? The most direct route to Allambie Rd appears to be fire trail?

Interesting analysis by Richard Cunningham on PinkBike.

Apparently only one World Cup round in the last 2 years to October 2012 had been won on flats? His argument is that with the slackening of head angles from 66 to 62 degrees over this period allows riders to be more low and centred on the bike, rather than sitting back and driving your mass through the bottom bracket, which improves responsiveness but makes it harder to keep feet on pedals when churning out the watts.

Anyways, read for yourself:

Berowra Valley update for 07 May

Status:
Red/Closed

The entrance from Hornsby side (Stewart Ave) is fenced. Seems like there's work on the trail. Don't know how much from the trail is inaccessible, but it's impossible to start it from that point.

NSW NPWS Surveys

I know this has been discussed already, but a timely reminder that there are just a few days left to complete the Berowra Valley National Park & Regional Park Survey at this address:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/berowravalley2013

The old Plan of Management is currently being updated. We would like to gauge the public’s interest and general themes for the park to guide the draft plan. We encourage you to provide your feedback via the following survey monkey. Feedback closes 12 May 2013.

Now also might be a good time to mention the Landscape Values Institute is still live and can be found here:

Happy surveying! Eye-wink

Cascades update for 07 May

Area:
Cascades
Status:
Green/Open

Rode this track this morning from the bottom of Kitchener St around the the bare creek and up to the entrance on the corner of Acron and Douglas. Fare few puddles up the top near the quarry, but when coming down not much at all. Quite dry down in the valley itself.

Convict 100

What can I say, it was almost a perfect day !

I hadnt been able to get out for a big training ride with the group, and had done a single ride on GNR in the lead up. From the pre-ride it seemed many of the lines in technical sections had changed or even gone, and I had noted the reports of the condition of Jacks Track. I wanted to continue to improve on result from last year and was motivated with the impressive riding from the other boys in our riding group.

Anyhow, just a quick summary

Mentally Challenged !!

Mentally Challenged !

Unlike all the races leading up to the Convict, I was feeling mentally and physically drained from the last 5 mths of training and racing. So I knew this weekend was going to be hard, but given it is my 'local' event and the last event of this years first half of racing I knew it had to be done. On top of this, our training group had a couple of recent hit outs around the course and even though mentally I wasn't quite there I was still riding physically strong.

Happily Convicted

Started the year at 85kg after having a nice break after the fling.
I have trained hard and consistently since the start of the year and turned up on race day at 78kg.
I am a dedicated single speeder. It is my only mountain bike! I took a gamble and decided that I would put a harder gearing than normal on my bike, suffer up the hills so that I could make gains on the many flat sections. I had a goal of cracking the 5 hour mark thinking I would be bloody lucky if I achieve it.
