Granny is not a dirty word
Felt good until the descent into the canoe bridge, took it slow feeling a bit sketchy.

Its getting tougher in the old blokes' category
Knocked almost an hour off last year's time and only moved up from 36th out of 43 to 33rd out of 44. That same time would have made 27th in 2008, 13th in 2007 and would have been one off the podium in 2006! Seems you've got to get much faster just to stand still in Super Masters these days.
Anyway, I felt I had a good race...

First 100km first ride over 35km
What a day. Was sooo nervous. didn't think I could complete the course let alone do as well as I did. Had the flue for the 2 days prior. Camped in the van with the flue and awoke feeling ok. A really enjoyable ride. Good to see the other nobmob guys I had done a few training rides with at terry hills. Those training rides were the longest rides ever prior to this dirtworks.
I am stoked to have finished such an awesome race.
Bring on the next one. I have the bug

Blue band of shame
First 100k outing and it kind of went to plan, insofar as I expected it to be tough, for my back to cramp up and for it generally to hurt a lot ..... and it delivered all that.
I was pretty happy really with how I went in the first part of the race, but after the first water stop found the rocky sections pretty tough and jarring at race pace on a hardtail. Funny how sections which seem easy when you are tootling along on a recreational ride suddenly get a whole lot tougher on race day (mental note: ride the dually next time).

Everyone there was in really good spirits ...
Great day overall ...
I'd seriously consider doing it again ....

First DW50, 2010
My First race had a great time.
Went out with the first pack (little optimistic) hit that first climb and wept a little bit, walked the whole thing. My lower back and calves were ruined at that point but once on the top of the hill it was good fun, just kept going for it at a steady pass.
Was feeling great at the 28km mark so skipped the water station, about 2km after that wasn’t feeling so good, wished I’d stopped.

Disappointed - but I got a wrist band!
Woah! That was tough yesterday
My wife and I have just had a baby last week so my training has gone off the boil over the last 3-4 weeks. So I knew I was entering this event less than 100% prepared, but 100% committed to giving it my all.

DW100 2010
What a great ride the DirtWorks 100 course is! This was my first ever race/event and overall I loved it. It was however a very long day and I was pretty much exhausted by the end of it.
I got up at 3:00am to drive out there Sunday morning as I was worried about encountering traffic and delays on the ferry at Wisemans. In the end I was there by about 5:15am! Way too early...
