Mt Majura - Canberra

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Went to do some cycling down in Canberra with some friends last weekend. Started off with a easy ride around the lake. Just 30km or so of bike path.

Then a friend who lives down there took us out to Mount Majura on the outskirts on Canberra. It's this pine forest with firetrails and singletrack littered all over the place!

Just head down to the airport then go down Majura Rd for 5min or so where there is a little carpark on the side of the pine forest.

Climb up to the top of the hill on the firetrail and then you can take singletracks all the way down and around the place. Can spend hours lost in the maze of singletrack!

Highland fling review 2006

Well what an event. There was quite a lot of reference to 109Km this year, even from Huw at the presentation. I thought is was harder than last year, probably for two reasons, 1. it WAS harder and 2. I think in hindsight I might not have been as well prepared as last year.

This year we stayed in a nice big house "Inverard". The crew (Craig, Jemima, Christine, Will, Sergio, Sharon, Dwight and Justin) had arrived by dinner time Saturday night. I had decided at 7:00pm that the chain issue had to be fixed so off to the boys at legend cycles for a new middle sprocket. While I was away dinner was being prepared. A rather large amount of pasta was cooked up for the eight hungry mouths. Huge logistics doing 3 courses for 8 people!!! There was a stack of yummy food full of carbs and sugar. Couple of beers along the way to add to the carb loading. 500ml cans I might add. We were all asleep by about 10:30pm.

Wisemans Ferry ride

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was planning on getting a bunch of riders out to Wisemans Ferry this Saturday morning (the 18th), which should be great fun. I have never ridden out there before, and I am looking forward to it very much. Lots of people say it is great. But I am not sure how many of my mates are going to go yet. But will know more later in the week.

My question... does anyone know of any good weblinks (hotlinks) you could direct me to that explain the Wisemans Ferry ride in detail? As this ride / trail does not appear to be on this website. I just wanted to do a bit of research before we get out there.

RESTRICTIONS APPLY - KEEP OUT OF THE RIFLE RANGE - CHECK SIGNS

Bring plenty of water and a few snacks, remember hills are you friends because without climbing them you would not be going downhill.

Be prepared for a hill fest this out and back trail has plenty to offer even if it is only firetrail. Give it a try and see for yourself.
