Sea of Rock
Harald Philipp & Tom Oehler reveal a story long lost. A bicycle hanging in a climbing route guards the entrance to a vast mountain range. The story leads us to two guys who almost invented the mountainbike and killed themselves in only one day. Watch the story unfold...
Alternatively, just marvel at the riding skills and scenery

The Oaks
Does anyone know if the upgrade works on the oaks are now complete or is part of the single trail still closed?
Cheers

Manly Dam update for 06 May
Did a lap this morning. Nice and dry (a couple of small and avoidable puddles in the usual spots).
Trail fairies have filled the soggy spots on the single track by the golf course with soil, so should help drainage

Withdrawn: CX Bike - XL, Di2, DuraAce, Easton - mint.
Hey y'all, I'm selling my CX bike to make way for a new one.
It is in MINT condition. I had the frame resprayed from the old colours by Paint my Bike about 7 months ago - to this new matt black finish with red detail. Its actually a Giant ally frame with a carbon fork.
Whilst being sprayed, I had PMB remove all the cable guides, and prepare the frame for internally routed Di2. So - it has Ultegra Di2 electronic gears, with the cables all hidden away. This is a bit of a luxury for CX - but its lovely.
Very easy to keep clean.

Things are better in pairs
Like they say in the classics Life is better with a partner.......
After hearing about the wonder that is the Convict for years and years I finally succumbed and got an entry for Dad and me. Dad's 70 and last year his independence was curtailed by events outside his control, so I figured I'd take a bit of control for him, do an N+2, and get a tandem bike for the two of us to race.
Henry at Maxadventure was great and created a Tandem category in the 50 km race. Unfortunately we had to follow doctors' orders and Dad hasn't been able to get on the bike yet.

Convict 100km - My first Ever DNF :-(
I arrived at Minter's house at 5pm on Friday where a take-away dinner of spaghetti and meatballs was waiting for me. We loaded the car and headed off into the peak Sydney traffic, chatting and laughing away and sharing memories from both our younger years and friendship we have developed over the past 4 years.
Some mates had kept us a camping spot and had the fire going, and soon we were tucking into Dorito's, chocolate brownies, and caramel koala's.....and talking a whole heap of shite.

Ever thought about entering an MTB marathon?
Many thanks to all the keen competitors from last weekend's Convict 100 race who took the time to blog about the event and share their stories. There were indeed some fantastic efforts and great yarns.
It's not fair to single anyone out - every participant makes an event - but is always good to share a photo so here's Tristan riding the infamous bridge. Have a look at Cycologically Challenged! to hear how he went.
Great to see so many riders keen to share like this, and so many comments of appreciation, encouragement and congratulations. This is what MTB is about to many - a huge challenge out in the (relative) wilds with mates and strangers alike. Strangers who, after a ride along the Woomerah Range, somehow you will have a special connection with forever. If you've been there, done that you know exactly what I'm talking about!
For those not sure about trying an event like this, take a look at the blogs on the Convict 100 2014 page. Just don't be put off too much. Remember: nothing worth doing in life is ever easy!
Also remember that blogs like this build into a handy reference of event results in a tab on your profile and you don't have to write an essay to do that.

Baby on bike
Folks,
has anyone ever tried to put a 17months boy on a bike ? and which bike ?
Mine is really into wheels and I wanted him to learn the balance... I've read positive feedback on striders but not sure if they are the best/safety for them.
Cheers

Cascades Night Ride
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
End of Wyatt Ave, Belrose - this is on the East side of Garigal National Park.
Hey team,
Going to do the 4 gates tonight.
Will push a bit on the climbs to work on fitness, but downhills will be relaxed given it will be dark...
Anyone else keen??
Cheers,
Mike

1st Convict 100 won't be the last
I've ridden bikes on and off most of my life, but just for fun. In 2010, with the arrival of my first 'little one' and moving into mid 30's I decided I needed to get back into some sort of fitness regime. Went out and bought some running shoes... Ran 7k's on a bush trail... Then came back bored and went and bought a bike instead; the trusty 2010 Trance X2.
