Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Red/Closed

Just come back from the Dam and the main loop has just been closed from Eva's all the way to the top of the Alambie boardwalk. The RFS are backburning all day today. It will be open again tomorrow.

Do you have more information?

If you've ridden here lately please add a more recent report. This will be useful even if the condition is the same as updates expire after 30 days.

Looks like they just rocked up

EDIT: the RFS website does mention the burn-off here http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/dsp_content.cfm?CAT_ID... it also looks like they will be in Garigal next week too. Doesn't say where tho Puzzled

the numbers of riders I saw on Allambie Road coming back from the physio this morning.

Was lovely, with all the rain over winter I haven't ridden the dam for at least 3 months and it's the best I've seen it in ages.

Considering that the other priority the RFS need to balance is fuel reduction to protect peoples houses and possibly lives vs. recreational activity they may need to do a burn at short / no notice.

Sorry but that is just totally wrong danielschipper. Alot of paper work and notice has to be done and given before they can even think about a back burn. Sure they may have a period of a few days to do it to allow for weather, but they deffinately knew it was happening.

From all the proper firefighters that I talk the the RFS is can be a real pain in the ass to deal with.

I am sure that would have had to notify the Manly Dam land managers and they in turn should have put up signs all over the place. This should have happened atleast 2-3 weeks before the back burn.

Manly dam is ridden by to many people that drive long distances to get there to just snap close it like that.

Really poor organisation by the RFS if you ask me!

thats what I was trying to get across.Regarding the RFS and regular firefighters from what I have noticed when doing deliveries to an RFS command base(Cessnock airport) that the 2 really do not respect each other-it is nearly open hatred!
