Manly Dam update for 01 May

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Red/Closed

Despite the 24 hours of sun, there is just heaps and heaps of water around and expect it to stay like that for a good week (and that's without any more rain). Ride The Dam and you'll tear up the track and do your drive-train a diservice.

Do you have more information?

If you've ridden here lately please add a more recent report. This will be useful even if the condition is the same as updates expire after 30 days.

What's the chances of it being ridable by tomorrow? It's been pretty basically dry for a week now and I'm getting itchy feet (not Tinea before anyone pipes up). I was thinking of taking a cruisy lap tomorrow to see what it's like and what the changes are like on the back section.

I was driving the parkway yesterday and saw a few riders setting off from the top gate...

Still gonna be messy and chopped up in the usual places like the kids' playground that runs parallel to Churchill Crescent, and the dip down off Southern Cross Drive. Lots of run-off and seepage still on the nature strips in the streets around the Allambie Heights area.

We've only had two dry days in a row so far. Would suggest late Friday would be next checkpoint.

If there is no more rain, will the dam be fine to ride on Saturday?

Like I said, tomorrow arvo next checkpoint Smiling

Went for a ride round the dam yesterday arvo, is still a bit wet, couple of big puddles, but not too bad!
Not as bad as it was on Sunday!
and still muddy in some parts...
The back section where they did the work is pretty good, they just fixed up some of the drainage.

That's useful information. More useful though, would be to post a new status update for Manly Dam. Thanks Smiling

I did a lap this morning and whilst there were quite a few puddles I'd say it's ready for the weekend traffic. It's not perfect and there are a couple of bog-holes that will ream out (after the 19th hole) but the rest of the water is in the usual locations (across the top after HB hill, the section after Manly Vale school) that won't cause much damage.

Am I ready to call it Orange? Ideally I'd say leave it another few days but lots of people are going to look at a week of no rain and come out for a lap or two and come away thinking it's in damp but OK condition . If we leave it Red does that teach people that the NoBMoB traffic lights are too conservative and to ignore them in the future. Are we better off going Orange and accepting some minor damage to preserve the credibility of the rating system? Discuss.

Re: the new back section, it's definately smoother and a bit dumbed down but won't be any faster as you were already at full speed for that section anyway. It just means it will be a bit less bumpy at the same speed
