Manly Dam

Green/Open

Happy Father's Day.

The rain last night had surprisingly little effect. The track is still "green/open" with the dust now settled down/washed away.

And how was the Gibbs St Butcher yesterday ?

I went past him twice before 07:00 on my own both times (other people must have Saturday night social lives and/or Fathers Day breakfasts) and stuck to the right hand edge of Gibbs Street going uphill.

He sat and watched me, and obviously I was watching him pretty closely. But no attack Smiling

Maybe that side of the street is outside his exclusion zone? Somebody said he has a nest in a tree on the other side, it is possible his territory which must be defended doesn't include the west side of Gibbs Street.

Also, it was pretty early, maybe he was still tired as I understand Saturday was a big day for him.

.. my experience with magpies is if you can sight them before they swoop and keep looking at them, they don't generally attack. That's hard to do when you're riding (without riding into something and / or falling off), but maybe the butcher bird is the same.

Riding along waving one hand above your head like an idiot also seems to work pretty well, but is very tiring unless you know where the attackers are likely to be.... Smiling

I got swooped by him riding up the footpath a few weekends ago so i can assure you the right side of the street was most certainly part of his territory lol

I might have to do a night ride this week as i think i need one more ride before i move out of the area Sad

Left me bleeding from the nose. 2nd time he's drawn blood.

Did a couple of laps this afternoon and evening and no blood lost this time. I have adopted a method of grabbing a fern just before the bottom bridge near the hydro lab and waving it around my head as I round the top corner. So far it has left me alone when I do this. I'm sure that I look like a fool but it seems to work.

Track conditions nice today, and beautiful day for a ride.

Peacfully riding up gibbs st by myself after the crowds dispersed, then WHACK! WTF?? a handful of blood from a gouge on my nose. Can you guess who did that?
