Manly Dam update for 16 Feb

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Amber/Some Issues

Given the recent rain, a sensible rider would first ask "are there any dry patches?" and the answer is "No."

So a sensible rider would not be riding.

The Dam is open and there are people riding.

If you elect to join them then expect to feel like a salmon splashing upstream and expect some slippery timber. It is heavy going across a lot of soft ground on the Allambie side. Also beware Curl Curl Creek which was running fast and deep this morning, and some trees down near Cootamundra Drive which have been cleared but still hang very close to the track.

Your bike will need a clean and some maintenance after your ride.

Do you have more information?

If you've ridden here lately please add a more recent report. This will be useful even if the condition is the same as updates expire after 30 days.

Slowly drying in many places. Still a lot of water about. The puddles are now mud puddles.

So still "Amber/Some Issues".

And that tree branch at Cootamundra Drive knocked a bloke off his bike this morning - beware! The location is just after the little playground swings, cross the little bridge, climb the timber and follow along inside the ARMCO fence - before the end of the fence a tree has come down which somebody (SES? Council?) has trimmed off the roadway, leaving a good size branch at about shoulder height which is hidden in the foliage. It isn't obvious until too late. Shocked

I might go take a look with the pruning saw.

How are our trail works holding up?

Edit: fixed. That bit of tree limb that was sticking out was nasty. Now all gone, but Council will need to remove the tree as it will continue to drop as those horrible prickly bushes holding part of it up will eventually fold.

Except now I'm covered in itchy spots where that horrible prickly scrubby bushes did their best to stick me full of holes as I was sawing away. Evil

Your karma is increased Smiling

How are our trail works holding up?

- I'd say the recent works are still o.k. so far.

How's the dam holding up today?

I've got to go over that way this afternoon so thought I'd do a lap or two if it's in reasonable condition.
