Highland Fling Race Tips Video
Fresh from the edit suite this morning - a sneak peek at a 4-minute video shot at Wingello on Sunday, with tips on Highland Fling training, featuring Jenny Fay and Anthony Shippard. We have more videos coming, and I would welcome any feedback - if they're popular, we'll keep making them!
Major Development Threat to Oxford Falls + Red Hill trail network
I'd just like to unpack some of the earlier post on this subject. This is quite serious.
The State government is looking to develop the land in the Red Hill and Oxford Falls area that Warringah Council was looking to set aside as an Environmental Protection Zone. The EPZ would have worked very well for us. Seeing that didn't come off, the government is looking to pounce.
Race ready tyres
What's the diff between race ready tyres & tubeless tyres I had a choice I went for tubeless but what's the diff..
Tubeless rims and tyres
It's my first time posting on the forum and was hoping someone could give me some advice on tubeless tyres and rims. After getting 3 flats riding manly dam yesterday i thought it might be worthwhile to change to tubeless but have no idea what to look for or how much I would need to spend.
I ride a 26" giant hardtail at the moment and mainly ride around manly dam and cascades. Any help would be greatly appreciated I am getting really sick of changing or repairing tubes on the side of the trail
Trail Tool Time
On most trail build days the members of BMORC arrive with boot loads of digging implements and weapons of bush regeneration.
I thought it might be an idea to start a thread relating to our tools of choice and ways to maintain them, allowing other trail builders access to a wealth of knowledge and discussion.

I'll get the wheel rolling here.
My latest investment has been the Rider & Bell Rakho.
Long ride planned. Access info needed for some points
Hi all,
I'm trying to plan a decent length ride for endurance training purposes. Just unsure of ability to access in some points of the ride.
I live at North Manly, so
Planned ride is:-
Trans Provence All-Mountain stage race
No 50yo old farts whining about their bikes not having bottle cages (erm, that sounds like me ) in this one!
Enjoy Amazing scenery, and cool music. Just don't look down in the high altitude stages.
URGENT - Possible threat and Opportunity - Review of Land Zoning of ALL Red Hill and Oxy
Hi all,
The short of it- Sydney is short on land and people want more houses, undeveloped land is being reviewed. There is a public meeting and RSVP.
Whos going? Its a public meeting.
The State Government is reviewing all bushland from Cromer to Mona Vale Road that is not National Park (ie everything south, east and west of Slippery Dip). See everything in white at the following link or below in posts http://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/LinkClick.aspx?fi... (opens best in new tab)

tyre choice for high speed firetrails
First post so be gentle lol
Ive been of the bike for a number of years (or and have just picked up a new road bike to build my strength back up so i can get back onto the mtb
I use to ride the oaks a lot, at least once a week on my old mongoose compsx hardtail which ran 2.1 mtb velociraptors
I did the oaks last week and it seems a bit quicker then last time i did it and had a few moments when nearly losing the front in some high speed corners
to be fair they were 10 year old tyres and tubes lol
Hr long Cape to Cape doco available for download
The makers of last years Cape to Cape MTB doco have made it available free to download the full length doco (not the cut down version shown on SBS).
Options include a variety of picture quality up to the 3GB high definition version.
I would recommend the next one down which is only 800mb.
Simply grab a beer and go to
http://vimeo.com/46177603
and enter the password: ZUBINI DOCO
If that is too hard, I've burn a handfull of the doco onto DVDs. If you see me taking snaps at the Cape to Cape I'll have a couple in my camera bag.
Tyre advice
Need to buy new tyres for my 26" dually. Currently using the "Maxxis Ignitor" & have got very good wear out of these tyres. Not sure whether to stay with these or try something new & a little faster. Looking at the "Maxxis Crossmarks" or the "Continental X King" in UST as an option.
Most of my riding is Dubbo Gully/Convict Trail area, Ourimbah & Awaba XC tracks. Do a few 100km races during the year & also the 24hr at Mt Annan in Dec.
Any advice would be appreciated,
Thanks

ANT+ Heart rate straps. Synch to 2 devices simultaneously?
Question for those knowledgeable on the matter....
I'm thinking of getting something like a Polar HRM. I'm also going through the new phone process and have noticed many of the Sony xperia phones have ANT+ support for HRM straps.
So the question is, can I have the strap synched to the HRM and the phone simultaneously so I can have the display on the HRM on the wrist/bars and the phone tucked away safely in the camelback running strava? Are the straps Tx only or do they communicate like a bluetooth device?
TIA

- Thule 9708 - straps used to secure bikes
- Pacific A frame - velcro straps used to secure bikes
- Another A frame FX4T - screw down bike clamp - sold through Repco
Ideally liek to try a few but this is the next best option.

Appin closure ?
Does anybody know if the rumours about Appin are true and that its now permanently closed to the public ?
200km at Scott 24hr
2 of us - combined age of 111yrs - are attempting to ride 200km (each) in 24hrs at the Scott 24hr on Oct 13 this year on behalf of the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse Cancer Centre at RPA. Say hello when you pass us (and you will go past us lots...). We'll be wearing the jersey in the pic attached. Good luck to any NobMobbers riding at the Scott 24.
Fulcrum wheels
Ok so my Joytech rear hub is well past its used by date.
So I think I would like to invest in a lighter tubless wheelset (for $400) and found that the Fulcrum Red Metal 3s look like they mean business.
They would be used on the 26" Trance with 15mm front thru-axle. 9mm QR on the back!
Discuss.
Freehub compatability
I'm looking at replacing the drive-train on my bike from 8 speed, to 10 speed by buying a new groupset, and wanted to know if the freehub i'm running is compatible with a 10 speed shimano cassette?
Here's a link to the hub: http://www.novatecwheels.com/novatec/english/p_s...

1x9 options
I'm definitely going to go 1x9, but what options do I have? The widget looks fantastic, but changing the ring size is costly.
Other options? Please note that I am running M970 XTR cranks. My current middle chainring needs replacing. The only option I can find is the genuine Shimano 32t at around $100.
Maybe some fellow members are keen to sell a 2nd hand 32t widget? Ultimately, I'd love to be able to swap out a 32t for a 28t on rare occasions.
Best bike for Mount Annan
I'm off to Mount Annan tomorrow for the first time. Am I better off taking my Enduro or my Flash 29HT?

Ferei BL 200 lights
I've just had dropped off for review a set of Ferei BL 200 lights.
First impressions:
They make my 3.5yo AyUps look like demented glow worms. These puppies put out some serious lumens.
As a commuter lightset there is NO risk of outrunning these at any achievable speed on high beam, even on the ghastliest of wet nights. They claim a 270m range. I believe it. Using high beam on a bike path could be dangerous to other cyclists.
Garmin 800 compatible with the 500 bits?
Just checking - I've trashed my Garmin 500 in the last bingle. Thinking of replacing it with an 800. Can anyone tell me if the heart rate strap and speed/cadence sensor from the 500 work with the 800? I'm 99% sure they do but would like confirmation.
Thanks.
