29er weight versus 26er weight.
I'm of the opinion that a 29er bike weighs about half a kilo heavier than an equivalently specced 26 inch bike. What's everyones opinion on this?

So if you see me riding round the Dam with a smile as wide as the trail you'll understand why.
Best bike I've owned by an some orders of magnitude.
Fox D.O.S.S. or KS Lev?
Hi guys,
I'm researching for my first droppable seat post, and so far I'm having a hard time deciding between the Fox D.O.S.S. and the KS Lev. They're fairly comparable as far as price($480 vs $400ish), and I've read a lot of good reviews about both of them.
What I'm wondering is if anyone has had the pleasure to try both of them, and can comment on the differences and why you'd take one over the other?
The biggest complaint I've heard about the Fox is the remote, in that it's HUGE. All who've tried it have said that it works well though.
Burn off's
Does anyone know where the burn's are happening? Was planning a spin out Terrey hills or Manly tonight but didn't want to take the barbecue tools.

Scratch on the stem
Hi,
I have noticed a scratch on my bike's stem and I wonder whether I should worry about this and replace the stem, or it is still fine - please see picture attached. It is not too deep, but there is certainly a cut out and it is not just the paint. I am not sure how it has happened, maybe another bike scratched it while on the car bike rack...

Wheel problems
Hello,
I have a Giant Anthem 29er 2011 that I use mostly on Manly Dam and my first wheel got slightly buckled. I had the LBS true the wheel, which they did, but after around 150km it is buckled again. Two questions:
1., Is it common that stock cross-country wheel sets cannot handle the rocky Manly Dam if pushed a bit?
2., I assume I should replace the wheels for something more robust, should I choose lighter cross-country or heavier trail wheel sets for the Dam?
Bird watch at MD
Gidday - long time reader.. first time poster.
Thought I'd warn MD riders about a particularly "protective" magpie/starling that swooped me on Saturday and then took some skin off my nose on Sunday.
It attacks in the middle section of Gibbs St betwen King Street and Arana St - riding up the hill. Look out - I reckon it could take your eye out.
Fox Shock "Stuck Down"
Does anyone know of any bike shops on the Northshore/Northern Beaches that services Fox Shocks? I have a Float R roughly 2006 model with "stuck down". I'm usually willing to try and service things myself but I'm a bit worried about this one.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rick
Jesmond - Building possible?
gday, just wondering if it would be legal to do some trail building in the Jesmond/JHH area? There doesn't seem to be too much activity around and I know there has been talk of building the area up.
Do we need approval of some sort? Would it be frowned upon by the community to do some work?
Nothing too major, just tidying up and bulding some berms etc.
Cheers.
Tyre choice
Hi everyone,
Can you guys offer some advice on what sort of tyres you run and what would be a good all round set up. I have a trance x1 and have just about worn the nobby nics out. Riding on the road during all the bloody wet weather hasn't helped. Anyhow I'm not overly cashed up and cant really afford lots of different set ups for different conditions so I'll save these oldies for the road and get a new set up for the dirt. I mainly ride Glenrock, Awaba and am entered for Wollombi and The Highlands Fling later this year. Your advice is greatly appreciated.
"Hidden Valley Classic"...entries still available
Entries still available in the "Hidden Valley Classic" at Coolah, Sunday Sept 16th. A genuine cross crountry with 25-50-75k options & 90% singletrack...very little of that road/firetrail rubbish !!
Bike rebuild
Now that ive got a second bike, i've dismantled my old ridge rider to give it a bit of a birthday and am thinking of upgrading bits and pieces. So before i journey into the wilderness of the web, what are a couple of good web sites to get gear from (new and 2nd hand).
Converting to Singlespeed
Hi everyone
Im looking into getting a singlespeed for mountain biking fitness
I am able to convert bikes to singlespeed as ive had experience with this, but i just want your say on whether i should purchase a cheap mountain bike and convert it, or whether to just purchase a singlespeed

Lost: Bottle of tools at Manly Dam Wednesday Night
Interesting the conversation going on at the moment about Camelbak and equivalents.......
I've been trying to ride without a camelbak lately, and testing bike setup in preparation for a getting a frame bag. In order to centralise the weight I had all my tools, gu etc stored in a water bottle in the under down tube cage.
I just discovered the bottle is missing & assume it has fallen off somewhere round the dam.
It's a white and black Nike brand 500 ml bottle
If anyone picks it up I'll be ever so pleased if I can get it back... 0413 233 244.
Cheers,

RTA NSW Cycleway finder
Hi All,
The link below is to a newly opened cycleway finder(still in beta) that I thought some of you may be interested in. I personally think this could be awsome once finished.
Note: This is still in BETA and i know the creators are looking for constructive feedback.
Notification of proposed Hazard Reduction Burn in Royal National Park-Loftus Trails 8/9 September
Just an update on the proposed burn in Royal National Park. It did not proceed last weekend due to high winds but is currently being proposed for this weekend the 8th and 9th September.
NPWS are planning a large Hazard Reduction burn for the Temptation Creek area of the Royal National Park (including the single-track areas accessed from Loftus Oval). At the moment the planned date is Saturday 1st September to Monday 3rd September. It’s likely the trails will be closed for a while after that as well until they can be assessed as safe for the public to enter.
New Camelbak options
Have been looking around for a new hydration pack for the Summer and wondered about trying out the Camelbak which I have not used before.
They have a new antidote bladder with a removable hose connection so this should make it easy to pull out and pop in the fridge/esky.
I don't need a huge bag and was looking like going for the LOBO.
Can anyone have any comments or pet hates about any of the Camelbaks?
Workshop Training - Feedback
Thought I would share a great experience which may be of interest to others!
Last night I did a 3 hour 'workshop' with Jordan at Ride in Workshop ( www.rideinworkshop.com.au )
Being quite mechanically minded, but relatively new to MTB'ing at a serious level, it was awesome to work through the whole bike with Jordan, looking at all aspects of set-up, maintainence, repair, and recommendations on parts etc.
I've got no connection other than being very impressed with the service etc.
I suppose it's given me two things:
My Stair Workout
Was out exploring and found some stairs in the middle of no where, the top doesn't even go anywhere.
