Elixer Brakes

G'day

Can someone tell me how to open up the brake pads on my Elixer 7 Brakes? The gap has closed up and the pads are rubbing on the disc while I am riding.

Stem....help please

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi Folks,

My saddle and bars are at roughly the same level even though my stem is flipped and I have removed the spacers. I am keen to drop the handlebars to get more weight over the front wheel and guess the most logical way is to get a stem with more of an angle (mine is very little....on the Giant XTC 29er).

If anyone has a spare stem lying around that I could try for a couple of weeks, I would be very appreciative. I could then either buy it from you if it works well or return to you if you don't want to sell it (or if the angle is wrong).

Thanks
Ian

Quailty Mountain Bike Hire - Dually

Hi,

My brother is returning to Oz for 2 weeks after defecting 10 years ago to Ireland. He a a MTB club member there in Dublin and we would like to have a ride or two when he is here.

I was in Canada recently and hiring/demoing a $3-4k dually in Rocky Mountains is no sweat at all. Haven't found anywhere that does similar grade of bike here - anyone have any suggestions?

Bloody foreigner

Hi guys! I'm new in this forum and I could say in Australia as well. I came in to Sydney from Spain in January 2012 and I'd be glad to join you. I don't know anyone riding MTB here. I live in Seaforth and I wonder where do I can catch you up.
I really love this country and MTB, so I think it could be the best way to discover these beautiful places over here!!
I hope there is any one keen to ride with a Spaniard!! Sticking out tongue

Heart rates for different types of training

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

A question for the training guru's out there.

Most of my training I do on the road bike. I do a mix of intervals on a stationary trainer, intervals on the road and bunch rides. The bunch rides here are not the easy miles variety, but a pretty solid effort (grp 3 at SOP for those who train at Homebush).

Training ride this Saturday?

With Kowalski classic comming up very soon, this weekend should feature a decent training ride and then taper for two weeks. Is anyone planning to inflict some serious pain upon themselves and wants to a to join forces to make the training extra fast and hard? I can only do saturday and plan to do 70 to 80ks somewhere. NOTE, this is completely non social. No stops, no waiting - just training.

Any one intrested? suggested rides?

Firetrails in Garigal NP?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi guys,

I'm trying to figure out how to get from near the Monavale Rd/Forest Way junction back to Narrabeen via the Firetrails. I know it's possible to ride the firetrails off of Morgan Rd, but I'd like to jump on closer to Monavale Rd.

I found a couple year old NPWS Fire Management Strategy PDF online which seems like it marks out the firetrails, but I couldn't figure out where the entry point was. I've circled it in blue, with my hoped for path laid out.

mtb guide for nowra area

Looking for mountain bike trails information and or a guide for rides in and around the Nowra Kangaroo valley area. I've checked out SCUM website but i'm after more. I have to visit the relatives in November so why not take the bike.
Is it best that i hire a bike but bring a couple of things, seat , pedals, spares etc. or just stuff it and bring the bloody lot.
My first preference is to be escorted around by a local, I lived in Nowra some 20 years ago and would really like to get off the roads and explore the tracks.
I'm more about exploring xc trails not doing lap after lap stuff.

Looking at competing at the jetblack 24hr At mount annan if anyone needs a team member or is looking to form a team. Haven't raced a 24hr before but keen to get involved. Normally race A grade at club level and would take preparing/competing seriously if required but still interested in being in a team that's just there to enjoy it. Please message me with any interest.

Thanks.

it's happened again. a bike has been ripped off. this time mine. anyone see a 08 yeti asr (Turq/white) with a spanking new sid rtc3 (white) some red metal 3 hoops - etc let me know. Also been told by someone at nobmob that they had a roadie pinched from Lawson St Mudgee which is just around the corner from me. I recon anyone in Mudgee should keep a pretty keen on their gear at the moment.

Track options

Now that I have sold my car, i'm no longer able to get to Manly Dam easily from Neutral Bay (not too keen about riding on military road).

I'm looking for some alternative tracks that are accessible by train. I can quite easily get to North Sydney train station any time at the weekend, and am looking for something with a similar ride style to Manly dam.

Any ideas? I've been thinking about catching the train to Heathcote and riding in the national park. Bit of a hike though...

Mavic 2012 Crossmax ST hub 15 mm front axle spacers wanted

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi

I have lost one of my Mavic 15 mm front spacers - a result of having to take my front wheel off every time I transport my bike on the back of the car (otherwise the exhaust 'bubbles' the UST tyre Sad ).

Anyways, does anyone have a set of 2012 15mm spacers lying around that they might sell me?

Regards

Richard

Half Fling Profile

Does anyone know roughly how many meters of climbing there is in the half-fling course? I think the full fling is around 2400m or so, I've always assumed the half had about 1200m of climbing.

Harbour Bridge Incident 06.09.12

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

This isnt exactly a MTB post but I'm sure i'm not the only one commuting from the northern beaches (Manly in this case) to the city. This means crossing the harbour bridge twice daily and so far I've never had any trouble apart from the occasional near miss when some weekend warrior decides to overtake at the last minute and misjudges the gap.
Until yesterday morning.
Coming into the city I made it all the way to the down ramp where another cyclist ran wide on the little right hand bend and crashed into me - head on.

I'm just getting into mtbing and went for a ride up at Kalamunda the other week and loved it. I used a friends Giant xtc and found that I felt to far forward on the bike especially going downhill. I have come to the conclusion that I want a good alround bike that is going to be good on the trails but will also allow me to do a little XC if I need to.

Where to ride in high winds in Blue Mountains

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi, have booked a riding weekend in the mountains but unfortunately there are high winds. Can anyone recommend some sheltered tracks and/or that dont have a high tree-fall risk? We had in mind Yellowmundee, Knapsack or Winmallee - would these be OK to ride? (and Narrowneck on Sunday when less windy). Thanks for your advice, Robyn
