Robo Cog cafe

Not that I ever hang around in this neighborhood, but if you do, this Robo Cog cafe in Surrey Hills looks like it might be worth a visit? A friend send me the link below, they must think I'm into bikes or something? Eye-wink

How much suspension do you need at the Dam?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

My bike is now in the shop for a warranty claim for a cracked frame. I had a QUICK look around for alternatives if things go bad with my claim and came across the Giant Anthem but it has only a 100mm of suspension against my current bikes 140mm. If I was to replace my bike I would like to go lighter but don't want to spend a bomb. Toying with the idea to buy the base model Anthem 3 and then add all my XTR goodies & wheels to take prob a kilo out of the bike and get it to 11.7kgs from my current 12.7 kgs of my Norco and the 12.6 kgs for the Anthem 3.

Injuries and keeping fit - any tips?

So yesterday morning the inevitable happened. I lost the rear end on a wet corner. Luckily it was on a quiet backstreet. A 4hr visit to Manly Hospital revealed a broken shoulder blade and other bangs, knocks and scrapes. It should heal ok and quickly too but I was wondering what does everyone else do to stay in shape whilst they can't be on the bike? Any tips for exercise and diet?

Cheers
Phil

I know a pump track/skills park is an idea we can dream about. But to add to my dreaming, I finally found a video that shows the kind of skills park I'd also like to have alongside a pump track.

Carpool for Mountains to Beach - Sydney to Narooma/Threadbo.

Hi Guys. If anyone is doing the Mountains to Beach in late February and has a spare seat going from Sydney to Narooma, or from Sydney to Threadbo, please let me know.

I have a ride back sorted out, but getting to the start is proving a challenge.

Thanks....Greg.

Have just started comutting from West Pennant Hills to Sydney to get a little more fitness. Would like to
know a safe way to get from Milsons Point to Epping Rd in the afternoon as the ride along the Pacific
Highway is not pleasant at 5pm.

Early morning workout and breakfast

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I know you are supposed to have breakfast when you wake up - to kick start your metabolism into action again and to provide energy.
However what if you are going to do an early morning workout such as a 1 hour ride to work?
Do you eat breakfast before or after?

If you eat before should you wait x minutes before starting exercising or get stuck straight into it?
If you don't eat before will you be lacking in energy as in theory you should be hungry in the morning?

am i bonkers?!

So i was walking through clovelly cemetery earlier this evening;my friends are pondering over Henry Lawsons grave-and im looking at the sandstone stairs hmmmmm nice drop off!) looking at some of the tombstones,(ooh, nice kicker and stepdown...)now does this seem wrong, wandering thru a cemetry without the relevant relevance but rather seeing the place as a potential bike park!?!?! coz there are some really cool features there!!

Trail widening at Manly Dam - again

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

While doing a lap of the dam earlier this morning, I noticed the dreaded trail widening is starting to pop up again.

At the top of the steep boardwalk climb towards the end of the Golf Course singletrack, it looks like some folks have tried to cut a B-line around the two rock step-up. Some of the branches that had been bent and broken out of the way were still green, so it looks like it was done in the last couple of days.

Sydney Demo/Rental Bikes

Hi,

I'm home for a visit from the UK for 4 weeks in January and would love to get some riding in but can't transport my Yeti over due to copious amounts of baby paraphenalia. Does anyone know if any of the decent bike shops in Sydney's south or north offer rentals or demos? Ideally I'd be looking to ride in the RNP, Menai (I'll be at the folks' in Cronulla) or northern beaches so shops in those areas would be best.

Thanks in advance.

An addition to your first aid kit - Steri-Strips

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I recently had foot surgery for an old sporting injury, they chopped out some cartilage and re-attached my tendon. The surgeon finally gave me a packet of the 'stitches' being used to hold the reasonably large wound together (so I could patch myself up at home). The 'stitches' are a product by 3M called Steri-Strips (http://tinyurl.com/3msteristrips).

I'm not sure if you can purchase these in a chemist - I'd highly recommend a packet for any injury beyond a graze on the trail. Apparently these are not waterproof and I think a competitor may make waterproof ones.

Bike riding in Mt Annan after close

I received a email today asking people to not organise riding of the new Mt Annan tracks after closing time , as we all know there are limited amount of tracks to ride on if people keep abusing the use of these important measures they will be taken away from us very easily . So for eveybody pleasure of riding make sure you are already riding way before the gates are closed & you are a member of friends of the gardens or get in the park early in the morning just before it opens .

EPIRBs and PLBs

Not sure if this comes under geek gear, but it's electronic so here you go.

Regarding this story in the SMH...

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/beacon-gave-critically...

... this climber only seems to have been saved as they were carrying an PLB (well, the story says, "a locator beacon").

Yes, yes, it's never going to happen to you, but consider a worst case scenario:

Silly Question - Bike Hooks

I got some ceiling bike hooks/claws for Xmas, and I have been hanging the bike up on two of them by the wheel rims up side down. I am wondering if hanging the bike up side down by the wheels may put the rims out of shape by stretching out spokes. Anyone else use these ceiling claws and hang their bikes by the wheels? anyone heard anything bad by using them?

Interesting story...

http://manly-daily.whereilive.com.au/sport/story...

Just over 12 months ago he underwent a full knee reconstruction to rectify a birth defect that prevented him from riding to his full potential.

Perhaps they can fix my birth defect? Seems I was born in 1971 and if they can just move that date to something more like 1991 feel my riding will improve immeasurably! Eye-wink
