And to your left, you will see our .... BLOODY. FRICKIN. AWESOME. MTB. PARK!!

Sorry, cannot contain my excitement when we leave for Rotorua this weekend but just wanting to gauge if there is anybody out there that would be there at the same time to show us around this beast of a park.

I'll put a ride notice shortly but we're riding on Sunday 6th Dec at 9am and meeting at the visitors centre at Long Mile rd.

Myrtle Rust Outbreak on the Central Coast - Please help stop the spread!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Wasn't sure where the best place to put this was after I posted it on the GTA site, anyway the info has been passed on by NPWS and State Forests so this seems to fit.

I had discussions with NPWS alerting us to an outbreak of Myrtle Rust on the Central Coast (State Forest, National Park, Crown Land), the main areas affected are Wambina Nature Reserve, Olney State Forest (nine sites – potentially hundreds of hectares of infestation), Jilliby SCA and Yengo NP – Boree track as well as Various private properties in those areas.

Forum Round up for Nov 26

<Insert random quip about sunshine and how to mention this will mean certain rain> Eye-wink

Straight into a look forward to this weekend's riding, the pick of which will surely be the Spring Fat Tyre Festival 2010 at Awaba State Forest. First time for this event at Awaba, moving from the last three years at Ourimbah, but if it has the same vibe surely this will be a contender for event of the year? Good luck to all those going.

Oh, while mentioning Ourimbah though, there have been some Ourimbah forest access issues lately - please remember to park half way up the hill!

That's not to say there aren't plenty of other great events around, the keen are already planning for Dirtworks Classic 2011 and we have to congratulate everyone who recently completed the 2010 Highland Fling. Just a couple of blogs on the subject describing this year's Fling as Tough but educational and simply, Toast.

Closer to home Manly Dam is open this weekend but last weekend's closure brought some colourful discussion about Muppets who don't read signs. If this talk inspires you to take a more active interest in Manly Dam planning remember the Manly Dam Community Workshop on Monday night (the 29th).

Scanning through the 'hot topics' from the last couple of weeks we can find someone's First bike build who looks like they didn't need to ask, Just starting - what to buy and won't have to ask about Upgrading forks or help with bike's handling any time soon! Eye-wink

For the adventurous there was talk about riding the Six Foot track, Blue Mountains, but be warned - sounds tough and looks like you'll have to do some homework about how, precisely, you can do this ride.

For the semi-adventurous, why not hit Red Hill because tomorrow morning. Or take another local ride now the sun is shining! Just remember to add a ride meeting in the calendar if you want some company Smiling

Magic Shine Charger

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I recently bought a Magic Shine 1400 light from Deal Xtreme and I'm having trouble with the charger (ie not working at all)!
I dropped it from a small height and since then nada. I prised the plug pack open to find what looks to be a small non replaceable fuse broken and some scorch marks. A few questions I have are,
- Could this be related to the battery recall talked about recently?
- Can a generic charger be bought from Jaycar or the like?
- Does anyone else who purchased one of these fine pieces of engineering have a charger that they no longer need or use?

Shimano QR Hub Cone Adjustment

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi all,
Quick question relating to Shimano QR hub cone adjustment.

Do you 1) leave the tiniest amount of play before installation and let the QR compression take it up?
or 2) Adjust the cones to have zero play prior to installation of the QR?

I have been doing No.1 but not sure if there is enough bearing preload being applied. (There is no lateral play in the wheel once installed)

Interested to know anyones thoughts/experience on this one.

Have your say about Manly Dam!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

From Warringah Council:

Manly Warringah War Memorial Park (Manly Dam) is the largest bushland reserve managed by a local council on the northern beaches. The Park covers an area of about 375 ha of which 78% is bushland. Manly Dam itself is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Sydney, with a surface area of about 30 ha and unlike other waterways in bushland parks, it is freshwater, deep and safe for different water based activities.

Some image gallery changes

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Just a heads up...

I've been making some changes to the way image galleries work tonight so please shout out if you see any 'funny' things happening.

The way ride meeting galleries have been working in the past was less than ideal. One had to create a gallery then post images into that gallery, but because there were an ever growing number it was a real PITA to find the right one.

Which local shop stocks brake pads for Hayes HFX-9?

Need to get some reasonably priced brake pads (Hayes HFX-9) for Benji's bike before his Fat Tyre race on the weekend.

Any suggestions for a shop that keeps them in stock in the local area? Or do you have some laying around? Otherwise Benji will keep on going to fast down that muddy chute at Awaba. Smiling

Here's a picture of the brakes....

Thanks in advance.

Rgds, Hans

Update from Manly Dam Rangers

Below is a preview, click to read the full post
Dear Riders,

Due to the amount of sunshine we have been experiencing the track is finally drying up. We are still experiencing an extreme level of non-compliance, which of course, makes it extremely tricky to get the track ready for use again. Thank you for all of you who do not use the track during this time. We are open to suggestions regarding reaching more people about track closure and its importance.

Six Foot track, Blue Mountains

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi Mobbers, planning a trip on 6 ft track leave Blackheath, overnight at Caves House and back. Anyone done this? I did it about 15 years ago and stuck to fire road, other than the single track into the river (bushwalking track). I have heard that you can turn right about 1km up from caves house and takes bike in?. Anybody got some info on this?
Cheers.

Upgrading forks

Help! Would anyone know if upgrading my standard forks on a 2010 Norco fluid 2, 140 mm travel, to 180mm travel forks destroy the frame? I just want more room on the front for bigger rock roll offs as I I've already been over the bars more than once. And yes, I have tried getting my ass over the back wheel! Any advice is appreciated, cheers.
Steve.

Footage supposedly shot in the 50's could rewrite the history of BMX

Photos look good but I don't know about the video, any one else thinks it looks too clean for an old bit of film?

help with bike's handling

Need a little help with my new bike. I'm finding the front end tends to slide in corners which makes me feel a bit nervous. It seems fairly light in the front. What's the best way to fix this? Should i rotate the handle bar so it's more forward? lower the bars? longer stem (it's currently 75mm)? i've tried lowering the tyre pressure but still slides.

thanks for any advice

Thoughts on these trails...

Just rode Yellowmundee and loved it....thanks to the WSMTB who maintain it....nice, flowy, fun, fast....

So i am just curious how some crew out there would rate the following tracks in terms of difficulty, fun, fitness level, flow....and any other info they may wish to add...have chosen these cause i either regularly ride them or rate them as my favs....

Ourimbah, Menai, Yellowmundee, Manly Dam, Coondoo
