Good source for 36t chainring?
Hi All
Yesterday I fitted a spare 36 tooth Surly chainring on a 1 x 9 for a lap around the dam. The ratios were perfect (11-32 rear) but I was getting shocking chain suck because the chainring is too thick for a 9 speed chain (as I've discovered today thanks to the Surly site)
The question: can anyone recommend a good source for a 36t, 4 x 104mm chainring? I need it for the fling in two weeks so can't wait for a OS internet order so may need to (egads!) pay retail
thanks in advance

More MTB impact Studies
Former MTBA president, Gillian Duncan has informed us of 2 more studies into the soil impacts of MTBing
"Hello everyone
Gap Creek Trails Alliance has just received the final report from Dr Stu Clement of a scientific study of Gap Creek Circuit over 12 months. Soil erosion was measures at 20 transects, finding that 10 points did not change, 5 points had minor change, 2 noticeable change and 3 significant change. The amount of soil loss at these significant loss points would fit into a garden trowel, ie about 3cm loss.
The final report is attached here in a small version.
One more week for comments on Ingleside Chase Reserve PoM
Another week, another land manager's document to comment on. This one is very positive for riders as the council in question (Pittwater) has already stated it plans to liaise with local riders to create some trails in the reserve in question.
Although Ingleside Chase Reserve is probably about half the size of Manly Dam, and is a destination that many would not have considered riding in this is an important move for a few reasons:
- It's important to acknowledge councils that are willing to help mountain bike riders.

Gov't support for mountain biking.... in Scotland !
Just seen this article in the Sports section of the Herald, a Glasgow broadsheet newspaper ( right alongside the reports of the latest Celtic Rangers football match).

The level of government and non government cooparation and involvement sounds great........ maybe we can dream of something similar ?
Western Sydney Parklands
The Western Sydney Parklands Draft POM is available for comment now:
http://www.westernsydneyparklands.com.au/page/pl...
Specifically includes investigating a mountain bike course in the Abbotsbury (from memory) area, more generally speaks of creating a regional active recreation hub in the parklands including possible new mountain biking facilities and a few of the precinct specific sections (other than Abbotsbury) seem pretty open to me from a mtn bikers perspective. Anyway this is probably not the right thread for it!
HMBA Rounds 10 and 11 - CHANGE OF DATES
The washout of round 10 (Club Championships) for both XC and DH has created a few problems with re-scheduling. So here is the latest:
Down Hill Round 10 has been moved to 31st October.
Cross Country Round 10 has been moved to 7th November. (There was a clash with the NSW State champs on the 31st).
These will still be raced as the Club Championships and Lake Macquarie Games with prizemoney available to place getters.
Ryde Ride
I was heading out to ride at Wisemans on Sunday morning however hit the rain on the M2 about Beecroft and thought better of it - so headed back to the city via the Beecroft turnoff and down Epping road. Right at the top of Epping Road there was a bit of reserve and I saw 2 mountain bikers coming out of what looked like dense bush onto the road. I wondered if anyone knew whether this was real riding tracks or these guys could have been bush bashing?
Warrimoo DH track
.... Thanks Guys, good to blow the rumour away. Cheers
Hi Nobmobers,
Heard a rumour that the guys that set up the Warrimoo DH track got slammed with a fine. Anyone know the facts?
Cheers.
Leadville Trail 100 - August 2011
There was a flurry of interest in the Leadville 100 earlier in the year when the “Race Across the Sky” movie was showing at the cinema. Is anyone going to try and get to Colorado for the race in August 2011?

Thank you all for your submissions!
Just a quick note to thank everyone who commented on the NPWS mountain bike discussion paper over the last month or so.
It might have taken some prompting (sorry), but a nice flow of submissions ended up on the government's forum. The final tally was 2310 comments across the 6 topics listed.
To highlight what a sterling job mountain bike riders have done in showing the department what a massive demand for mountain biking facilities there is, just have a look at a couple of other topics on the 'Shape Your State' site and the interest they received:
- Health Reform received 242 comments across 13 topics.
- Barangaroo development received 290 comments across 17 topics.
So go mountain bikers! Hopefully these numbers will prove to be a message that the authorities just cannot ignore.
Rotator cuff injury
Havent gone to see a physio yet but seeing all the different injuries posted here, just wanted to know whether it is common for the rotator cuff to have slight tears from overexertion or holding on for dear life?
The pain only occurs when i raise my arm on a certain angle. But for all intensive purposes, I can still ride without a problem.
Strange thing is that I didnt injure myself or fall off and the other sports I play dont have much to do with my left shoulder (tennis/basketball)
Anybody else experience this same problem from riding and do I need to stay off the bike?
Female mountain biking buddies wanted
Hi,
I am looking for other girls to joing me during week out on the trails.
I usually ride on the weekends with my husband or daughter or other friends we've made out on the tracks but am keen to find other girls for company on the tracks during the week.
I am 51 but am reasonably fit and have been mountain biking for several years. I am not particularly fast up hill but love going down hill! My local tracks are Terrey Hills, Cascades and Manly Dam but my favourite is Ourimbah.
So if you are interested in joining me please let me know. Wendy
Mike Baird's speech regarding NPWS MTB Discussion Paper
In case you didn't catch it, local State MP Mike Baird spoke in parliament last Friday in response to the current NPWS Mountain Bike discussion paper. In this he mentions making a positive submission to the department which echoes the sentiment of the speech.
Credit where it's due - Mike's support has been key to moving this issue along so I'd like to publicly thank him for that.
