Fundraising for Bear Cottage during the HighLand Fling
Hi All,
I’m raising money for Bear Cottage while I compete in the High Land Fling this year. My Team and I hope to raise $4000, so if you'd like to sponsor me or one of my team mates, go to http://www.everydayhero.com.au/highland_fling_se...
A little perspective
With all the talk of the current NPWS Discussion Paper I was thinking this morning about what bike riders are actually asking for.
Bike riders just want a few bike tracks that will give them some sort of meaningful experience inside a National Park or two. You know - a few nice loops with a variety of terrain to keep things interesting, through nice bushland with nice views. Is that much to ask? It appears some people think so, so how can we persuade them otherwise?
Which Courier Company to send frame to USA?
I have to send a frame back to JensonUSA and need to use a reliable, trackable, registered method. Does anyone have any experience sending large parcels across the Pacific and recommend any particular methods (company?) or should I just go to Australia Post?
Apologies in advance...
... to all those who have added their support for the NSW NPWS paper.
When I canvased a few people and asked why they hadn't given their support yet, the main response was that they forgot, or just didn't have time. So I figured a subtle reminder was in order
Yes - 'popup' dialogs are annoying, but it's also annoying to see many people bust their ass for years to finally drag some key acknowledgements out of the department, only to then see only a few hundred people actually support that. Moreover when I know there are literally thousands of visitors to this site every day.
If you ride off road in NSW this surely affects you. Sorry for the none too subtle reminder, but please... take that 30 seconds and add your voice.
P.S. If you're on IE6 or IE7 you probably don't know what I'm talking about... please upgrade your browser
2011 Tracks and Trails Conference @ Sydney Olympic Park
Chuck gave me a heads up about this, and just so we don't end up forgetting about it put it up here. I've put it in the calendar too. Big question will be just how much will it cost?!?!?

Single Speed Dualy
About a month ago there was some talk about if you could run a dualy as a single speed, http://nobmob.com/node/17098
Here is an example of a Kona with the required main pivot being concentric with the bottom bracket.

Fire Trail Behind Woodford Dam ridable?
Just wondering if the fire trail out behind the dam at the end of glossip road was accessible, legal and rideable?
Highland Fling Tips - Half Fling
I'm doing the Half Fling this year which will be my third race having previously done the 50km Dirtworks and the Back Yamma 50km a few weeks ago.
Any advice on how to tackle the fling, particularly around :
1) Bike - I will have by then a 26" and 29" inch dually.........is the course suited to a 29er ??
2) Time - I did the Dirtworks 50Km in 2:45 and the Back Yamma 50km in 2:15.........what can I expect in terms of ballpark for the Half Fling............over 3 hours ?
3) Course - from what I can see there are plenty of short sharp climbs ??
Anything else to watch out for ??
Motorbike riders not all good!
Went for a ride last Sunday at Menai just like every other Sunday. As we got to the bottom of the down hill section we crossed 3 motor bike riders, stopped and seemed friendly enough. Before they took off one asked "if we go through here you reckon we'd ruin your pushy track?" we replied saying yes, you most definately will. They then took off and whilst riding up the hill spun their back wheels up the hill anyway, one tried riding over one of the jumps and got his back wheel caught ripping the track up even more as he wasnt going anywhere.
What size bearings for my Gary Fisher 29er?
Hello all,
I've had my Gary Fisher Paragon 2009 29er for about 6months now, and in that time, she's seen her fair share of sand, mud and capital punishment.
I am in the process of getting the tools to replace the BB bearings and rear hub bearings, as well as the head race bearings (at least I think that's what they're called).
Is there any way one can deduce what size bearings I need before dismantling the bike? I doubt my LBS will be overly keen to provide me with the accurate information, because I'm doing them out of business (could be wrong).

Rocky Trail Round 4 Mt Stromlo
So who's going?
I'll be there. Heading down friday night, doing the 4hr and staying for the 4X and events on Sunday. Should be awesome!!!
I read on the site, that there won't be any camping allowed....
Does anyone know why we can't camp? Would help make it a bit more affordable.

Pittwater: Ingleside possible tracks
As stated in the Manly Daily on Friday Pittwater Council are developing a plan of management for the Ingleside escarpment and giving access to mountain bikers. The even better news is that there is funding to build some new tracks....will keep you posted....

dam presta valves!
Hey everyone. Im trying to figure out how to check my tyre pressures with a presta valve!! I've got a presta valve adapter but that still dosent allow my to use the tyre gauge on the compressor (dosent push the little pin in on the pump to let the air out). And my hand pump dosent have a tyre gauge. Its quite difficult guessing tyre pressures, i've pretty much got two choices....puncture.....or no grip :S
Could i maybe just switch over tubes to shrader valves? Or is there a reason im running presta.
Thanks.
Around Blackheath
Hello,
I'm going to Blackheath next week-end, and I'm trying to find something descent to ride around.
Before you think, if I can avoid a track that is only fire-trails – I will be happy… but I can make exemptions.
Narrowneck look to be one of a fire-trail only…
Mount York sounds an interesting one.
Mount Hay sounds not a good idea… from what I've asked already
Anything else to suggest? or somewhere to look at?
Cheers

October long weekend meant I could fly over to Houston Texas, visit my pregnant sister and pick up something nice for myself

Can anyone tell (well that bit is rhetorical as I know someone will be able to …) me if I have some instructions of how to service a Mavic Crossmax SLR, will it be the same for a Crossmax SL ?
Looking for trails around Bilpin
I'm going up to Bilpin soon for a break and wondered if anyone knows of good trails worth checking out. Apart from driving down to Yellowmundee and the downhill at Kurrajong, there must be other trails around there. Recommendations? Ta muchly.
Narrabeen Lagoon Plan of Management Input & Workshop
Just had this from the council...
Basically - another opportunity to have input into a council's PoM (Plan of Management). It finally seems that the local authorities are trying to cater for riders. I know there have been a lot of these lately, but we need to support them all. Due to the diversity of land tenures in the Northern Beaches we have to jump through hoops for each land owner in order to get a seamless trail network in the region.
Credit to them for giving us the chance, please don't let this opportunity go to waste.
Scott 24 - How'd you fair?
Man, what an event!!!
So freakin huge!!!!
I loved it, it hurt like buggery (well my back did...) But I loved every second of it!
The down hill sections, with the jumps were so much fun. I also loved all the techy parts, the rocky sections and the tight twisty's through the trees.
The night laps were awesome too! Having to tuck the shoulders in to dodge impacts with trees and feel them brush past you as you zoomed past!
the new machine :)
Just tried the new stumpy 29er XXL up around terry hills did about 30clicks on duck holes/perimeter/long today and wow, what a difference from the old hard tail/26er (Giant Alias)
such a smooth and plush ride, triad rear is a godsend and the Reba fronts are so much better than my old Marzocchi's, it's awesome.
love it!
Looking for trails around Gloucester
Apart from Barrington Tops, does anyone know of MTB trails I could try out and report back on when I visit for a long weekend next week around Gloucester/Barrington area? I have ridden Barrington Tops before but I'm sure there must be single track trails around there too. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
