Appin
I am thinking of riding Appin tomorrow aiming on being there sometime before 12pm so can get in ride and get out before traffic kicks in. Is anybody keen to join?
Save Red Hll and Deep Creek now...
I know Rob put this up as a meeting but they are actually discussing stopping MTB riding in Red Hill and Deep Creek at this meeting on Monday.
The more riders to show up the better or else it slides under the radar - this isn't a protest but a meeting, however numbers ARE needed.
"Friends of Narrabeen Lagoon Catchment are having a meeting on Monday the 22nd of February from 7pm to 9pm at the tramshed Community Centre Lakeview room (Upstairs 1395a Pittwater Rd Narrabeen). Warringah Mayor Michael Regan Will be there as well.
Manly Dam - NEWS just in!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Jeff,
After much researching and communicating, it looks as though we may have found a way to reverse this decision at the Council meeting on the 23rd of February in favour of all mountain bikers!
I ask you to remain patient until then.
Kind regards,

Temporary compromise . . .
Hi everyone,
It seems that there are a lot of you out there trying to get the Manly Dam track reinstated which is obviously what we all want, but I havent seen any discussion on proposals we could make to the council that would be a "compromise" to their current decision. Whatever happens lets be honest, it doesnt seem like there will be any decision made until after the March 23rd meeting, and the current notice on the council website says that a full consultation process may take up 6 months . . . . . .
Red hill
is anyone looking at going to redhill for a ride today before 4pm ? I am relatively new to the sport ( 4 months ) and have never ridden up there and would love to meet up and join someone for a ride around today. If anyone is willing and able today would be greatly appreciated.
Matt
Mike Baird's view on the Manly Dam Issue
Local MP Mike Baird has put out a press release on the Manly Dam fiasco, and shows a level of understanding and commonsense sadly lacking in the council.
I'm thankful of all the support Mike has given, and continues to give to mountain bike riders.

KEEP MANLY DAM OPEN FOR MOUNTAIN BIKING
Manly MP Mike Baird has appealed to Warringah Council to show some commonsense and manage the risks rather than ban mountain biking at Manly Dam.
Hello from New Zealand
Hi Nobmob,
Really like the site and the concept - "if you want to start a club, well, go for it". It's the philosophy of the Rotorua Singlespeed Society.
On the other hand, we did put our hands up to run the Singlespeed Worlds in Durango in 2009...and got it!
So if you feel like a trip to some great singletrack and a chance to enter a world champs with no qualifications and all just across the ditch, check out the website - www.sswc10nz.com
We'd really like to have as many Aussies there as possible.
Extra Warringah Council Meetings Clarified
There has been some confusion about the extraordinary Warringah council meetings coming up but have had these clarified:
February 23: This meeting is only to cover the items that were missed on Feb 9 in their famous, meeting of disarray. The motion to re-instate volunteer maintenance days at Manly Dam is on the agenda, but the recent closure is not.
March 23: In this meeting council will discuss options for the future of riding at Manly Dam (ie. the recent closure).
Given council need to be shown immediately what a mistake has been made, and how many riders are effected, and as others have suggested it would be a very good idea to show up at the Feb 23 meeting for a silent show of support. Speakers are not allowed at this meeting and rowdy, insulant or other petty behavior would not help our cause one bit.
While I would encourage everyone who can to attend both meetings to show support, please only go to these meetings if you know you can control your emotions, bite your tongue, and have the patience of a saint!
Two events in the calendar here:

The meetings will be held at: Council Chambers, Civic Centre, 725 Pittwater Road, Dee Why (enter Civic Drive) and commence 6pm. More details should appear here:

Council is wrong: POM misquoted
I reviewed the full Plan of Management quoted in the press release, and found that they have mis-quoted the source document. The Plan gives council the right to designate particular areas accessible by mountain bikes, and the wording does not exclude singletrack.
In other words, they have used a technicality to close the singletrack, but the technicality is WRONG. So unless there is a document I haven't seen, it suggests to me they are compelled to re-open the closed sections.
What follows below is a technical argument - read or glaze over as you will :
Greetings
Hello Chaps (and chapesses)
Just another new rider who has recently dropped into the area. I'm originally from the the UK but moved out here just under a year ago with my (now) wife. Back home I used to do a fair amount of riding both on and off the road and the time has now come to get some off road miles under my belt again.
I'm definitely of the opinion that riding should be a social experience so I'm looking for some people to ride and generally have some fun with. Anyone keen to show a keen (if little unfit) 30 something Pom the best trails that Sydney has to offer?
Facts required... Manly dam
One of my friends who is a printer ( and rider) very kindly has agreed to print flyers for us to put in the bike shops. I will make them... Dl size, which is envelope size. Will any of you be happy to help distribute to bike shops please? We were thinking from mona vale to turramurra to chatswood to manly and the city ones.
Also, I will get A4 flyers to put at the trail entrances so help there will be good too please... All trail entrances so we can get to as many riders as possible to show to the protest.
The Oaks trail - river crossing
Hi does anyone know the condition of the oaks trail at the moment? In particular the height of the glenbrook river?
Warringah Councillor's Home Phone Numbers - Borrow their ear for 10 minutes
Phone contact is good because the recipient is obliged to listen to you and it takes as much of their time as yours. You can spend an hour writing an email which they spend 10 secs responding to. With a phone call you'll know in a couple minutes if they are not interested.
1000 mountain bikers taking up 10 minutes each equals 4.4 full time work weeks of time. They also personally hear the views of 1000 different people who use council facilities. Any issue causing this degree of concern from people who normally don't bother coucillors is important enough for council to address.
2008 Fox Talas RLC Forks
I have a Reign 0 fitted with 2008 Fox Talas RLC forks. Over the past 6 months the seals have been replaced on 3 occassions. In the first instance the seals were leaking oil, then on the second occassion (approximately 3 months after the first) the seals were again leaking oil and on the third occassion the forks were suffering from stiction (when I released the travel setting from 100mm position to a longer travel position the fork remained stuck at the lower setting for extended periods of time before reaching full travel).
Manly Dam closure – email responses from council
Thought we should have a thread containing any replies from coucil. Here's one to me.
Dear Nigel,
Northern River Tracks
Hey Guys
I have just moved from MTB Mecca in SA to Lismore NSW. I cant seem to find anywhere or anyone to ride with. I am an all mountain biker so i dont care if its up hill or down, just has to be off road cause my tyres hate the road.
Let me know about the good spots if you know of them, I have a ute with two seats free for anyone keen for some trails.
ride the council chambers?
How many would be up for some social riding of the council car park in protest of the dam closure?
I really doubt we would get enough to make a impact.. but you never know
Or is it just a stupid idea fueled by my Friday afternoon carbo loading?

I just don't know how to put this, so am going to just get straight to the point:
Manly Warringah Council have decided that due to a bureaucratic error that happened many years ago the single track sections of the Manly Dam circuit have never actually been technically legal riding. As such, instead of turning a blind eye, or deciding to make an extra effort to work around what is their mistake, they are to penalise riders by closing sections of the track.
If you look at the linked map, it's obvious that the circuit is basically unridable given this decision.
They are sighting safety concerns for this, but that is a complete joke as, as far as I'm aware there have been no documented incidents involving riders and another party there. I spoke to the Mayor on Wednesday night who admits this isn't an issue as he is aware of "only one incident in 5 (or is that 10?) years" (he wasn't sure of the timeframe).
Please take a look at the closed sections on the map (and you note the map says that 'Penalties Apply') and steer clear of these tracks.
Reading the release it seems this will be discussed at an extraordinary meeting of the council Mar 23 to discuss this. I'd advise anyone with interest in riding Manly Dam to attend. You might also like to email or call councillors (their contact details are available on Warringah's Elected Council page) with your views on this.
Please see the attached map, and full press release below:
Urgent Help - Magura Marta - SORTED
Hi everyone.
UPDATE - the great guys at Jet Black, in association with the Trek Store at Rouse Hill came to my rescue at the last minute. My wonderful girlfriend drove out to Rouse in the rush hour and picked up 2 x sets of pads with the shop due to close in 1minute.
Thanks to everyone who came with suggestions and generous offers - overwhelming.
I reckon the race might get postponed now due to weather, that would be ironic.
Thanks again.
Anthony
I ordered some brake pads earlier in the week from my LBS and they havent arrived as promised.
